Excellent CCW Podcast and Others Worth Hearing.......
« on: May 11, 2007, 10:24:43 AM »
I'm sure a lot of you are aware of "Front Sight, Press" podcasts, but if you aren't, they are well worth your time.  Incredibly informative and a good source enabling one to stay current on key gun issues.  I have provided the link to the podcasts below, but I highly recommend investing about 20 minutes of your time to hear the "Concealed Carry For Normal People" podcast.  Very similar in style and content to Michael's great podcasts on CCW.  The other podcasts that began in April are archived and all have a sound and logical approach to gun rights.  The latest podcast has some great news about the denied appeal in D.C. that just occurred.....good news indeed.  New podcasts are available every few days and I have found myself tuning in regularly.

Front Sight, Press Podcast ยป Alex, the Cable Guy, On Appendix Carry

Never really considered carrying this way before but it seems like it might be worth investigating.  Does anyone here carry this way?

I did appendix carry a couple years ago. Used a Barimi Hip Grip on a Taurus 605 (25oz) and later on a S&W model 642 (16oz). This was during a fall/winter time frame. Wore a fleece vest with the right pocket cut out so I could have my hand on the gun. Not using an IWB holster created a problem as the law in Ohio requires you to use a holster during car carry, so I had to remove the gun when I got in the car ( ;) ).

I now do front pocket carry. The law has changed inthat we can now have a gun in a closed (not locked) bag that zips or naps which must be in "plain" sight. I haven't decided how best to take advantage of the this change yet. Front pocket carry does not allow me to access the gun in a car jacking situation, so I need a second gun in easy reach....

Don,

I think the Safepacker would be a viable option for car travel that would meet your requirements.  Have a look at the attached.  There are some car photos as well to give you an idea.   http://thewilderness.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=18

Also, have you tried an IWB utilizing a cross draw when driving?  You could carry a pocket holster and an IWB at the same time and simply move your gun to the IWB when driving and back to your pocket holster when you get out.  Mika makes a nice IWB..... http://frontiernet.net/~akim/waist.htm

Also, the "Carjacker Crossdraw" from Andrews Leather could work for you as well........
