Question about the Sig 229
« on: May 15, 2010, 09:23:52 PM »
I know this model comes in three different calibers: 9mm, .40 cal, and .357 SIG. My question is can I interchange between ALL THREE calibers on one frame? If so, is it just buying the barrel and corresponding magazines?

FAQ from Sig Sauer..

Can I convert my 9mm SiG to .357 SiG or .40SW.
Unfortunately our pistols (with the exception of the P250 and the .22LR Classic Series) cannot be converted to or from 9mm.   Changing between .357SiG and .40SW is easily completed in most cases with just a barrel change(239-357/40 also requires a magazine change).

Going from .357 Sig to .40SW is typically only a barrel change on all Sig's.  This is do to the fact that they share the same case diameter, but not with 9mm.  So the same magazines should work between .357 Sig and .40SW.

I sold my 229 a couple months ago. It was a 9mm and I was thinking about going to .40 S&W since my favorite ammo supplier has a ton of SD ammo in .40, but little that I'm interested in 9mm (at the time I was making these decisions). Now, I wish I had just bought my 229 in .40 S&W since I could convert it .357 SIG (a highly under-rated round, IMHO). Based on my experience, I recommend you decide what if you want a 9mm or a .40 S&W/.357 SIG and then decide on the .22lr conversion unit for cheaper practice.

If you want a deal on a Sig, Budsgunshop.com is having a Sig Super Sale:

Hope that helps.
