Besides, the reply was to "really odd ball thread sizes." I find it hard to believe a machinist would think this is a hard project.  ::)

Most standard oil filters fall into about the 3/4" to 13/16" diameter range......and have straight (bolt-type) threads in either standard or metric.
Making and adapter would not be too difficult with a little knowledge, skill, and a few of the right tools.

Remember those black rubber "corks" from science class ?
The ones for test tubes and beakers, with the hole in the middle for a glass tube ?
IIRC they came in various sizes.

IIRC they came in various sizes.

And, they sell certain sizes at Lowes (in the blue drawers, in the hardware section) .... and at some farm supply stores.........
