NRA under attack
« on: February 26, 2018, 08:42:17 PM »
So reads a recent article.  BUT WE IN GEORGIA ARE DOING WHAT WE CAN.

Seems like, Delta Air Lines, was kinda hoping the GA State Legislature would do them a favor this year and pass a bill exempting Delta from jet fuel sales tax.

Well after their stunt to severe ties with the NRA, guess what some of our state legislators have decided?

Hmm?   Hmm?   No soup for you.

Indeed. I hope they stand their ground and it's not just political posturing.

It's all political.

Delta, though they've never voiced it, could always move somewhere else.

Their headquarters is located on property owned by the city of Atlanta, inside the city limits of Atlanta.  There's always sparing back and forth.  The city wants more tax money, more rent.  Delta wants more breaks.  The city could care less what's good for the state.

I'm not in favor of giving special tax breaks to one company or group.

well unless of course you're talking retirees.  Then I'm all in favor of protecting those valuable folk.

Well maybe if Delta leaves you guys can get a good corporate headquarters for one of the major firearms manufactures?
The time for action is upon us and the enemy is at our gates. Let us not allow them one more inch of advancement but instead throw them through the gates of Hell.

Already, NY, NJ and CA are courting Delta to move.   Like that's going to happen.     Talk about negative incentives, tax and politics-wise.

The bill passed the House and Senate, and Gov. Deal said that while he was against it, and it was a bad move and brings a negative image on Georgia, he would sign it.

I also read that while this will cost Delta in the area of the jet fuel tax, there are other areas where they gained other tax breaks in the corporate area, so it's not as big a financial "punishment" as seen on the surface.

Agreed.
I doubt they will relocate over this. It would cost much more to relocate than to bear the offset between what the jet fuel tax costs and the other unseen corporate tax breaks that they still get. They'll find a way to add the cost to customers.
