Colt M-4 Fired Full Auto Until It Catches fire

I don't really know what they were trying to prove, but it held up quite well. I believe the gas tube finally melted, turning it into a single shot.  Bill T.

I counted 14 mags before the first flames from the hand guard.  420 rounds.
However, the video seems to "jump" around the 2 minute mark suggesting that a lot of time was cut out.
There must be a lot cut out, I counted 12 mags in the first 2 minutes, 360 rounds. That id less than 1/3 the advertised Cyclic rate for the M 16/ M 4.
The fact that it burned up before it quit should make the AR bashers take notice.

 (It won't, but it should  ;D  )

It makes me wonder if the gas tube was a bit more stoutly constructed, say twice as thick with cooling fins added, how much longer it could have run for? This is a video of a U.S. Ordnance M-60 that ran for a full 1:45 on full auto, (850 rounds), without stopping. Pretty amazing.  Bill T.

If your in a 420 rd firefight, you need back up, artillery,  and did you really carry that many mags with you? Ak handguards would be on fire too. Barrel did not fail.

Paraphrasing a recent CombatDiver post, after 6 mags in an M4 rifle, the potential to "cook off" rds. is almost certain. Without getting near the trigger.

Catching fire seems worse, saw a similar vid with an AK, both continued to fire, until the flames were too bad.

Great way to ruin a gun, that's why, one needs to celebrate diversity, AR to AK, back to AR, than to FAL, than back to AR,

Pray for back up.

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

If you watch a bit closer I think there were at least a couple of cooked off rounds.
