I love stories like this
« on: December 17, 2007, 12:04:13 PM »
The 71-year-old retired Marine who opened fire on two robbers at a
Plantation Florida sub shop late Wednesday, killing one and critically
wounding the other, is described as a former pilot for two presidents.

His name is John Lovell. ''He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, he works
out everyday.'' Lovell was a man of action Wednesday night.

According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the Subway
at 1949 N. Pine Rd. just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner -- Lovell,
who was finishing his meal. After robbing the cashier, the two men
attempted to shove Lovell into a bathroom and rob him as well.
They got his money. But then Lovell pulled his handgun, opened fire,
shooting one of the thieves in the head and chest and the other in the
head.

When police arrived, they found one of the men in the shop. K-9 units
found the other in the bushes of a nearby business. They also found cash
strewn around the front of the sandwich shop. Detective Robert Rettig of
the Plantation Police Department. Both men were taken to Broward General
Medical Center, where one, Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale
died. The other, 21-year-old Frederick Gadson of Fort Lauderdale is in
critical but stable condition.

White, a longtime friend of Lovell, was not surprised to hear what
happened. ''He'd give you the shirt off his back and he'd be mad if
someone tried to take the shirt off your back,'' he said. White said
Lovell worked as a pilot for the Marines, flying former Presidents John
F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He later worked as a pilot for Pan Am
and Delta. Lovell is not married and does not have children.

He is not expected to be charged, authorities said. ''He was in fear for
his life,'' Rettig said. These criminals ought to realize that most men
in their 70's have military backgrounds and aren't intimidated by
idiots.

Something tells me this old Marine wasn't "in fear" even though his life
was definitely at risk. Just waiting. And he better not be charged!
More like rewarded.

The only thing he could be charged with is participating in an unfair
fight. One 71 year young Marine against two punks. Two heads and one
center body mass shot- good shooting! That'll teach them to get between
a Marine and his meal.

Don't you just love a story with a happy ending?

Nice story, in sharp contrast to the guy in Texas who will probably get indicted for shooting the two prowlers next door.
You should have heard the news bimbos on CNN nattering about what a "crazy place" Texas is with laws that allow you to protect yourself, your property, and that of your neighbor as well.

Yeah, I like stories when "bad guys" get what they deserve. I wish nobody any harm. But, if someone is pointing a gun at you and endagering your life like that.. it's seems only fitting.. you know?

I could be wrong but I think this guy in Texas was asked by the owner of the house in question to watch over it while he was gone, in other words. . . guard the house while the owners were away.  In texas, I believe a neighbor watching over the house of another has every right to do what the shooter did.  Like I said, I'm from Oklahoma and our laws are different thenTexas but if someone on this forum who is from Texas could read your Conceal Carry Gun Laws and see what they actually do say that would help us all.  I'like to know for sure myself.

What do you expect the press and business's such as CNN, NBC, CBS et al; to say.  First of all none of them even know what their respective state laws do say about conceal carry, let alone probably even know that a thier state has laws regarding carrying a handgun, so they just display their own ignorance, in public, on national television.    :o

My hats off to the 71 year old marine and to the guy in Texas , those who prosecute for doing right is a sign of tyranny that we need to speak out against and make the media let us have our equal  time o help right the wrongs.  Damm god story thanks for sharing it with us.

I too love to hear stories such as this. But, it sure as hell wasn't on the news, not that I heard anyhow. They never let us know when a gun has actually been used to save someones or another's life. But they sure as hell make sure the whole world hears about it when one is used by some idiot, that probably shouldn't have had one in the first place and more then likely wasn't a law-abiding responsible gun owner.

Right on MR.LOVELL.

Might I ask if this story was in a Florida newspaper, where did you first read it or hear of it Marshallette H.? When did this happen?

I say we all email a copy or the link to it to the AP, CNN, HNN, Fox news, The Miami Herald (I believe they are the ones who are  always critical of guns and very anti-gun). I guarantee they (The Miami Herald) will not be or ever run this story. I could be wrong on the name of that one, and if I am ( whoops, MY BAD). Might I suggest we all bombard the media with this story. We have to start helping ourselves and make sure stories like this get out. I know I've copy and pasted it into a few emails and will also be sending a link to the page to still others.
