The good Marshall (not sheriff) carried a Colt Single Action Army with a 7 1/2 inch barrel.

The Rabbit is right in .45 Colt.

My understanding is it was an actual 1895 Colt SAA and not a movie prop!

A good source for those kinds of questions is the Internet Movie Firearms Data Base; http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Main_Page

and the companion Internet Movie Data Base; http://www.imdb.com/
