Those who reside in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area will recognize the name Wain Roberts.  His gun shop in Pinellas Park has been a fixture for many years.  Wayne died this week after a lengthy decline. He will be missed by those of us in the shooting community, his family, and his many friends and acquaintances.

From the St.Petersburg Times:

ROBERTS, Davis Wain of Wain Roberts Firearms, passed away Aug. 17, at home after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family whom loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; his 4 children, Allan, Pamela, Lori & Marcia; 6 grandchildren, Cameron Brewer, Sabryna Roberts, Zachary Roberts, Sonya Sandberg, Ethan Kepple & Sammy Kepple, and one who has always been like a son Darin Paulton. A native of Michigan, he moved to the Pinellas Park area in 1955. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1961, then attended St. Petersburg Jr. College. He was co-owner & co-administrator of Parkway Nursing Home & Roberts Home Health Services. Wain received his firearms license in 1972, but some will remember dealing firearms with him long before that. He was President of the Pinellas Park Boy's Club, Vice President of the Florida Nursing Home Assoc., District Vice Board member of the Pinellas Park Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Pinellas Park Rotary Club, past Member of the Suncoast Health Planning Council and a Lifelong member of the NRA. During his military career, he served as Physical Therapy Specialist, Senior non-commissioned officer for the Dept. of Surgery, the First Sergeant for the 829th Army Reserve Station Hospital in St. Petersburg. He was nominated and appeared in the publication, "Outstanding Young Men of the Year" in 1972 and ran for the Pinellas Park City Council in 1973. Wain helped draft health care legislation in the State of Florida and was Co-Founder of the National Alliance of Stocking Gun Dealers. He served as a technical advisor to the ATF and in many court cases involving firearms. He will always be remembered for being a caring & giving man, for his great stories & advice and was the best husband and dad one could ever ask for. The family offers a special thanks to Morton Plant Hospitals Interventional Radiology Dept. A viewing will held at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 8:30 pm. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, at 11 am at Memorial Park Cemetery. Taylor Family Funeral Home 5300 Park Blvd. Pinellas Park, FL 33781 727-545-9858
“I’ve lived the literal meaning of the ‘land of the free’ and ‘home of the brave.’ It’s not corny for me. I feel it in my heart. I feel it in my chest. Even at a ball game, when someone talks during the anthem or doesn’t take off his hat, it pisses me off. I’m not one to be quiet about it, either.”  Chris Kyle

Sounds like a great man, may he RIP and his family be comforted. Sounds like he will be missed by several communities.

Hate to hear of the loss......folks (and especially 'old-time' gun store owners) like this are few and far between anymore.

May he RIP.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Always sad when folks of his caliber and generation pass on. A man dedicated to being a husband, Father, Grandfather, involved himself in his community, a bedrock citizen of this country, and had a love of firearms and business that he enjoyed.

This country would be better if more were like him.

My condolences and prayers extend to his family and friends. Men like this are the exception, and I'm sure he won't be forgotten.

God Bless

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
