I saw a cowboys show a couple of weeks ago where tequila was talking to his guest about the guns he used and he mentionerd during his interview that when he was just starting out in his pistol shooting he did a tooth paste action job on his revolvers. i have a springfields xd in 40 caliber. Would this work on the recoil spring to loosen up the slide?

Tooth paste is nothing more then a very fine abrasive... so if you want something polished, it will work just fine... if you need something contoured... its not going to happen.
