First and foremost: Thanks to all that replied and offered up their experience and suggestions. I was curious about a couple things with the P229 .22 one was dry fire and the other that the slide did not lock back after the last round. I received replies from SIG SAUER on both items. On the dry fire I called twice and received one answer that it was not a problem (some built in safetys, guards. etc.. bla.. bla..bla), but if you are going to do it a lot then buy some snap caps. The fact that the slide does not lock back. quote: "None of the .22 kits lock back on the last round. " I still like the feel of the P229 in my hand vs. the others available. Any comments on what would be a fair price for one. New and Used. Thanks again!

I purchased the P220 Conversion kit. I am pleased with the kit. Sig Sauer recommends CCI Mini-Mags 40 grain hollowpoints @ 1235 Fps. I would recommend sticking to ammunition with those performance criteria.

I have tried two other types of .22LR ammunition in it.

Winchester XPert22 36 grain hollow points did NOT fully function the slide back. Would eject many spent shells but the slide was not taken back far enough to strip the next round off of the magazine.

Remington High Velocity 40 grain hollow points functioned flawlessly.

The switch between the .22LR upper with the .45ACP upper was fast and convenient.

These kits are a great way to work with your shooting mechanics on your big pistol. Other than ammunition selection, I have had no problems with it.

Would recommend and will get one for my P229 also.

+1 on Buckmark !

Buckmarks are a cheap and ugly plastic imitation! What someone with good taste seeking an excellent .22 target pistol would really want is the Browning Challenger II which has lovely walnut grips and a beautifully blued 6 3/4" barrel. The trouble is they don't make them anymore. If only I knew of a trustworthy person who was selling one cheap............ ;D

Recently bought a conversion kit for my 229 (non-railed). Once I got to looking at the magazines closely. I noted that there were some edges left over from the injection molding. Right at the top of the magazine in front of the feed lips. I shaved those down as they would sometimes catch the rim of the casings and cause a jam situation in which. You could not remove the magazine or easily clear the chamber. I have four magazines and with a few minutes of work they were all given the same de-burring. At the range I have so far put around 1000 rounds through the conversion. To include 200 CCI Mini Mag, 400 Remington Thunderbolt, 200 Federal Yellow Jacketh Bulk pack, and 200 Winchester Target bulk pack.  While not flawless function. It is functioning at an acceptable level. I numbered the magazines. As it is my experience that you can sometimes narrow malfunctions down to a particular magazine.  Haven't  kept an exact count of the malfunctions. I would say less than a dozen in the 1000 or so rounds fired. I would also add that most of them came at the end of the sessions when the gun was fairly dirty.  A couple FTF's where the slide did not go completely into battery. And a couple times it failed to strip a fresh round from the magazine. A quick cleaning after every 300 rounds would probably help considerably.
My ratings are as folllows: Scale of 1-10
Fit and finish= 9 Some of the machining on the barrell is a little "rough".
Accuracy =8 Don't have a ransom rest. But at 7yds. Supported, easily shoots less than 2 inch groups with cheap ammo.
Sights =6 Not a fan of 3 Dot. And it also ran out of elevation adjustment. It still shoots slighly high with a six o'clock hold.
Reliability=8 As stated ealier. Not flawless as when shooting .40SW. But acceptable.
Would I recommend this to my friends? Already have:) Going to the range today. Will keep a record of results.

Sig marketing honcho was on Gresham last Sunday, hour 3 (  >:( ) - the .22 are exactly the same gun as the full size, the exchange kit upgrades the .22 to a 9, .40 or .45 (as appropriate). Same in reverse for buying a .45 (like the P220) - you can buy the .22 kit.

Trouble is, MSRP is damn near half the price of a whole pistol.

The real question on all of these issues is how long will it take one to recoup the cost of the conversion kit in savings on ammo? I have attached a text file that shows how many boxes of .22 LR it would take to break even on 9mm and .45 ACP. One would have to shoot around 2300 rounds to break even on 9mm and 1300 rounds on .45 ACP. If you do not shoot anywhere near that much during the year, it's better to stick with what you currently have and not buy the conversion kit. For me, I shoot around 5K - 8K per year so a conversion kit is beneficial for me.

And keep in mind that with the Sig kits and similar kits, one gets to shoot the same gun they normally would carry. And I believe this is a significant point. If one can find the .22 LR version that matches the larger caliber versions exactly in terms of size, weight, and ergonomics, it might be better than a kit; but those pistols are usually as expensive or, in some cases, more expensive than their larger caliber brethren.

Just bought one of these yesterday and headed to the firing range.  I was using in-expensive ammo and the thing jammed on me every other bullet.  I took the gun apart and used a dremel tool to polish the bullet feed on the assembly.  I then deburred the magazine.  I lubed all moving parts with Tetra Gun lube.  Finally, I bought a brick of CCI Mini Mags.  I ran the entire brick through the gun without field stripping/cleaning and there was not one single FTF/FTL/FTE.  All rounds (except for 2) were in the red at 50 ft in fact most were in the bullsey.  In my opinion, this is a great and accurate gun.  It just needs some "finishing" the factory failed to do during their QC process.

Stupid question. Can you purchase the P226 9mm and then get a conversion kit to go to 22?
