Get out of there Timothy! Hospital food has always has a tendency to suck unless you're a rich person getting plastic surgery somewhere I couldn't afford. But when I was in the hospital eating my meals in a group instead of in my room, whoever hadn't lost their appetite was asking anyone who had, are you going to eat that? And when checking off what we wanted for our next meal there were a whole lot of X2s on the slips of paper.

Sometimes you just have to eat crappy food and know that it's better than no food. Once at Fort Polk I had a bayonet on a long stick and was chasing a squirrel in the woods. I think we had a propane torch, but I probably would have eaten it raw if I caught it. Cooking takes too long when you're really hungry. Luckily someone finally decided to feed me and this other guy, and they gave us each a C-ration plus whatever they cooked up that day.

Schwarze Mini-Elise lebkuchen. They're over a year old but still good without being frozen or refrigerated. I don't know how when when they're not loaded with preservatives. They're 25% hazelnuts, walnuts, and almonds, that somehow aren't rancid. I don't understand.

Made up a batch of chili Saturday afternoon.  In the afternoon, because it is always better as leftovers.  So, cooked it up, cooled it, and put it in the fridge.  Sunday after church some went into a pan for heating up.  Going to have some more tonight.  After an hour of shoveling and blowing snow this will be perfect.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Having a bowl of homemade chicken dumplin's right now.  :D

We took a batch twenty miles away to my wife's sister who's having a rough go of it right now (cancer) so she can eat and get to bed. We have to be up and on the road early to have  her at the cancer center 60 miles away for gamma-knife treatment on her brain.

I hope all goes well with the gamma knife PegLeg. IMO it's better than the alternatives. Traditional brain surgery: once air hits the brain, you're never the same. And chemo is so bad a lot of people quit going. They'd rather die than keep it up.


If you have any leftover chili send it my way Mike. I'll pour some over a cheese omelet for breakfast. Anything you put on your plate is breakfast as long as there's an egg with it.  ;)  I've had breakfast chili on its own too. Lots of it. If you make a fresh batch it should be well aged by the time it gets here.

She did well.... their MRI showed 7 lesions of various sizes (it is a higher resolution than the one she initially had which only showed 3). They zapped them all and she tolerated the procedure very well.
She will still have to undergo chemo for the cancer that has metastasized over other areas of her body and is having a life-port put in at 6 AM tomorrow and chemo begins Thursday (will only be once every three weeks).



That being said, we grabbed some drive-thru fries and a soda on the way home and for supper tonight it'll be some leftover dumplings from last night.
when I get around to it later this week I want to make some homemade cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting.
