A green pepper, 2 small cucumbers and 2 tomatoes, all from my friend's garden, and mozzarella, topped with garlic pepper crispy onions. Here's what it looked like before I tossed it with some balsamic vinaigrette. And a pic of the fried onions which I added more of once I started eating the salad. When I have homegrown cucumbers and tomatoes I usually toss them with Italian dressing or a vinaigrette with nothing else, and I eat green peppers raw with a sprinkle of salt. But I decided to try something different this time and it was delicious. I added the string cheese because, you know, it's cheese, and while I was slicing up the veggies I saw the bag of onions on the counter next to a can of chili and thought, why not? I didn't have any croutons to throw in there.

I ate that whole bowlful of salad for lunch (casserole dish if you want to get technical, I need to do dishes soon.) Breakfast was just a plate of tikka masala seasoned Basmati rice grown at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. Mmm, spicy.

I have 2 small lemon melons from my friend's garden setting on the counter too. I have to wait a few days for them to ripen up. Over Labor Day weekend I helped him pick apples from a neighbor where his cabin is, and along with the fresh produce, Monday he brought over 2 half-pints or apple butter his wife made. I know what's going on my my toast when I get my appetite back, if not sooner. ;) I have some chicken & herb rice and enough ingredients for another big salad tomorrow if I don't eat something different.

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage. Where are we now??????
