Even in the Bay area there are plenty of places to shoot, a fact that surprised me when I lived out there.
Around here the problem isn't finding places to hunt or shoot, it's just that due to the terrain  Wooded and hilly, building a range even 500 yards is quite a project. It may be different north of the mountains or right along the Connecticut river but I have never lived in those areas so I don't know.
It really doesn't matter because the only place you would get that kind of a shot hunting would be on the power lines.
