Prez race and the Supreme Court
« on: January 23, 2008, 08:51:16 AM »
If the Supremes rule the 2A an individual right would that change anyone's mind about voting for McCain or Guiliani? (I still would not vote for Romney. The Supremes might find an AWB a "reasonable restriction" on the 2A.) A favorable ruling would mean decades of court cases but at least our basic right would be upheld. Stevens may retire if a Dem gets elected. IIRC he is in his 80s. If a Rep gets elected the old bastard may not retire but he damn sure can't live forever. I would feel better if someone other than Hillary or Obama made the next Supreme appointment. Of course, we could wind up with another Souter.

If the court rules against an indiviual right I guess it doesn't really matter who you vote for as our gun rights would be doomed from that day forward. A ruling against the 2A and the Dems would have an AWB, one gun a month, and registration passed by Feb 1st 2009.

Won't really matter who is Pres.  They (congress, MSM, etc) will all scream for "balance" rather than law knowledge any way.  Stevens will be replaced with another socialist leaning judge.

The Supreme Court is the only issue that is making me hesitant to jump ship and vote Libertarian in protest.

I'm not sure it matters a whole lot.  The majority of SCOTUS justices have been put in by Republican presidents, and look how that turned out.
