Title: I am in deep trouble
Post by: JdePietro on December 04, 2009, 10:59:23 AM
I had owned a Colt LE6090 or some combination of numbers and letters like that back in 05. It was a fine rifle but for me there was just no magic and I was plagued by FTF's and FTE's. (Had I known what I know now I could have fixed this issue very easily.). Back in June of 07' I decided I was gonna give the AR platform another try but this time it would be my own custom rifle made exactly to my specs. I pieced together a DPMS with all sorts of custom little parts. Stainless Bull barrel in the 20 inch length, chrome lined firing group, custom stock, I went all out. Even had the bolt mated to the chamber against the advice of some people who said that was nonesense. The rifle came out spectacular and shot better than half MOA at 200 meters. I couldn't have asked for a better AR. Yet still there was just something missing, that little hint of magic that just makes you fall in love with the piece. After finally getting my dream rifle last year (SA NM M1A) any fond feelings I had for the AR were gone. I simply could not afford to house two ammo dumpers and really needed the money to start saving for a house of my very own. (Renting right now).
I am lucky to have the kind of relationship I do with the gunshop owner so he offered to sell it on consignment for me. 6 months past by and even with two price drops nobody was interested. Now I know the market for the AR's has long since died but I just couldn't justify having a rifle I barely shot when the significant other was on me about the move. The killing blow came when I found out that DPMS now offered a bull 20 with mostly the same set up. Now it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that I put into mine but the fact of the matter was that they offered a new gun for about $800 and I had hoped to get $1200 for my own.
I had gone to the gunshop yesterday to pick up my rifle and explane to my fiancee that I would be unable to sell it for what it cost when luck or the lack thereof would have it that my pal had just gotten in a new S&W 327 M&P R8 . I love revolvers but have always carried a 1911 or Beretta 92 because that is what I had the most training with. I couldn't help but fondle what I thought was a revolver that could easily keep up with any modern day pistol. Randy knows I'm weak and we had discussed the fact I would probably never break even with the my rifle on an occasion or two. Now I don't know if the kind heart that inhabits the usually surely man melted that day, maybe the holidays had worked their magic on him but he grabbed up the paper work and says "I'll tell you what, your rifle for this revolver plus a box of ammo." ::)
Well what do you think happened. :-[
I am in so much hot water I don't even know how to explane myself. I cried for a half hour after shooting my new lady like I had just spent the night with an ex. Although I will say shooting her is hard, after the first shot I kept having to move the target to the left and right just to see where I was hitting. :-\
To make things worse she doesnt know yet, so if you guys can think of a good story I'm gonna need something.

As an added bit of wisdom from an old gun guy:
Guns and ammo go a long way in getting through those long sexless nights, weekends, months ...
Or, you can just find someone like M'ette and have the best of both worlds ... or at least that's what Marshal claims. Damn, most of the time when he gets caught he just claims it was a present for her and gets both ;D

Screwed M58? Methinks not. :( Hock the pistol, buy some diamond earrings. Maybe you can buy the gun back before she notices. FQ13

Tell Her the truth, You traded it for a rifle you didn't care for and could not sell even at a massive loss, so you cut your losses and got rid of the Albatross. Then go make up the couch and enjoy your new pistol, cuz that's all the fondling you'll be doing for a while ;D

As one who got his wife and child out of an apt not to long ago, you are done.
The only thing to do is sell the the new piece, yah right.
Or, pull out your sword and fall directly on it.
As much overtime as can be had at work is also now an option since you will have no comfort at home.

From what I know about that revolver, you got the better end of the deal. Is that a Performance Center gun?
Remember, asking to be forgiven is easier than asking permission.....
Enjoy!

A lot of good comments and advice posted already. Hope this doesn't cost you a marriage. Sounds like you have a problem and need to join a 12 step program for gun addicts.
Or you could get her into shooting and loving guns also, then you can enjoy your addiction together.
Just remember happiness is a warm gun. It may be the only thing hot you touch for awhile.

Jdepietro,
We may seem like we don't care, but you are asking a bunch of senior citizens with kindergarten metalities for advice in an area where most of us can say "been there, done that, got the t-shirt or court papers to prove it."
I wish you the best, but we all screw up and live to fight another day. Some of us learn to not make mistakes again, most of us learn how to cover them up, and I just don't let my wife have the keys to the gun room ;D

Thanks for the kind ::) words.
Yeah it is a performance center piece.
She is into guns (which actually makes this situation more scary :-\) she carries a S&W M&P9c, loves that little devil. I don't think she will care about what I got but more so how I got it.
I guess I'll go make the couch comfy...

Give her the gun and tell her you couldn't sell the rifle so you decided to get something for her in trade.

If he got it for her in trade, what is she still doing there?
I love it when mommy's gone and I can say stuff like that ;D
LOL that right there is funny!
If Mr. Bane is reading this here is a good idea for an episode of Best Defense Survival.

My dad taught me the 3 words that save a marriage.
I WAS WRONG
There are 3 backup words for when those don't quite work:
YOU WERE RIGHT
Hey, all women who like to shoot, like to shoot revolvers.
Good luck. Merry Christmas!

Here's the plan.
Sneak it into the safe. Only take it out when she is around and paying attention. Rumage around in the safe for a bit then say,"Look what I found. I forgot I had this old thing."
;D

Best Defense Survival should have a show on how to explain the new toy you just bought to your better half. I got a dirty look this one time that could put down a Bull Elephant. I bought an sks instead of fixing the AC in her car, i was proper f-ed. :(

Well it had to happen sooner or later...
Yesterday I took her to work because of the snow we got the night before. Got breakfast and stopped at Dick's Sporting Goods and actually found a box of Hornaday Critical Defense in 9mm. She has been dying to get her hands on them so I picked up a box and then enjoyed free wi-fi at Borders since she had a short shift. When she was done I took her to lunch and gave her the box of ammo which made her excited.
I figured since I had earned a cache of browning points I was in a good position. I explaned to her my misfortune with the AR and how I had honestly tried everything I could think of to break even. All the while she stared at me. I explaned myself as articulately as I could not letting one chance slip by to say I made out on a bad deal. She was not amused to say the least, she said I have a problem and that I need some sort of twelve step program. All in all her reaction was not that bad, when we got home she made me go get it and actually played with it for a little bit. She got mad when I showed her the moon clips and said that she wished her old snubby had them.
That was it, so either she is bottling up the rage to be released at a later date or she genuenly does not care.

Hint for next time.
1) Use your computer to make up some stationary for the Lower Provincetown Rod and Gun Club.
2) Send yourself a letter from John Doe, President of said gun club notifing you on winning the firearm in question in the club raffle.
3) Mail said letter to your home adress.
4) Open said letter in front of girl friend or wife. It's better if the wife opens it herself.
5) Act stunned and say," Well after all these years of buying raffle tickets I finally won something!"
6) Bring home said firearm.
7) Be very carefull who you tell the plan to.
This will work once. I can swear to that.
No I did not do it but did come up with the idea for a buddy. ;D
Bit my lip when buddys wife went on about how lucky her husband was to win a Ruger shotgun.
Friends are friends and pals are pals but buddies stick together.

Didn't think of it right off, but Haz hit it on the head. I made a call to my gunsmith, but he is gone for the week. However, if I remember correctly converting a cyl. for moon clips is not very spendy. I'd jump all over that one if I were you!!!

I think you need to give her the new one, after all that's what she wants and said in a woman's way when she said she wished hers had them. Give it to her for ChristmasThen go out and bust your butt selling off some stuff or working a second job so you can get that house.

Sadly her little snubby is gone, it was sold to help finance her M&P9c. We went to the range and I brought my new toy along thinking she would want to shoot it but she has no interest. Her comments were to the effect of,
"I don't really like revolvers, thats too big and too heavy to even be practical, I understand as a child you were brought up watching Clint Eastwood and will buy into the man sterotypes that say you need a cannon, I get it, but while you are off learning every system known to man I will quietly practice on the only one I care about, the one I carry."
It is very cold here at the DePietro house...

You guys are soooo pathetic!!! You spend more time trying to think up excuses and lies to cover your sorry asses than just growing some 'nads' and telling the truth.. which was actually a very common sense buy in my opinion.. You will make up the money elsewhere on something else..that you lost on the sale of the gun that you couldn't really justify keeping around. simple as that... and ................................... you really need to rub her back... surprise her and have dinner ready when she gets home..and let her know how much you appreciate her when she least expects it.. Like while she is doing something totally not sexual or romantic... a sudden "I love you" will give you TONS of mileage... ;)
Now............I am going to copy and paste this whole thread in an email and send it to every woman that you all are married to or involved with.. unless.......................................... unless................................. any of you have any old purple or pink guns laying around you want to part with ... LOL
That might silence me for awhile.......... :-*
((And that is MOMMY BITCH to all of you who know me.. )) ;D ;D
oh.. and by the way... Marshal suddenly surprised me with a new Model 97 pump shotgun today.. all slicked up .. and everything... He is sooo sweet.. Cause I had one already.. it just wasn't really nice and new like this one was.... I think it was supposed to be a surprise for me.. cause he looked really frightened when it came to the door..Like I wasn't supposed to see my new gun and spoil his surprise... He stuttered and stammered around and while I just stood there looking at him he thrust it in my direction and told me it was for me. Weird.. that he would buy me another one.. I have 2 now and he has none.. :o
What a good husband I have.. ;D

My cousin in law just got a brand new Ruger LCP, and my cousin is about to have her one very soon. She used to have the attitude that "I won't carry a gun outside the house" and when he brought that gun home, she handles it, and says "I'd probably carry this gun. This would be perfect" His response was "If You'll carry it, I'll go out and buy another one!" And she wants to get her CHL now. SO he'll be buying another soon. She stole his Taurus 605 from him, and he really don't mind that much. ;D
Now I'M Single, so I don't have a wife to steal my guns that way (Not that I think I'd complain if I had a wife who liked guns enough to do that..... Hope I get that lucky, in fact.), or to have to explain purchases to....... I'm sure it'll happen soon enough. ;)
