Title: 2009 Big game season.
Post by: shooter32 on December 11, 2009, 02:51:47 PM
Since I didn't get to go deer/elk hunting this year, has anyone had any luck so far in their hunts?

Lost my two duck and goose places to outfitters so my hunting this fall has not been a good one.  >:(

I've only been really a few times but I got a young whitetail doe last month before rut. I've seen a few more since then but I never got a shot.

Saw a big whitetail buck but did not get a chance to shoot him. I shot a big doe. Saw a mink while I was hunting my son was amazed.

Broke my damn toe about the start of small game season so I've not even taken the 870 out of the case this year.  Don't hunt whitetail 'round here cause, well, I'm lazy.....don't like hunting with a shotgun and not in to muzzleloading either.

Might trade in the 870 for a nice skeet gun this spring.  It will do double duty as an upland gun too...or keep the old pump gun and leave it for home invasions...never know when the liberals get restless...

Have not been myself. My son has killed a couple on his girlfriend's dad's land. He gave the meat to folks he has on a waiting list since our freezer is full.

As of this very morning we've killed 4 whitetail deer on our property, 1 nice 8 point buck, 2 large bodied does and a  buck that was so well endowed that the hunter though he was a doe :o

I have not shot any of these myself. My criterion for whitetail shooting is that it has to be a better buck than the last one I shot - (very nice 10 point). I don't much care for whitetail venison myself so I trade these 'hunts' for an opportunity to shoot Axis on other properties.

If I could get some dry ice around here, it would be do-able.

My wife's uncle up in Philly has been wanting some of my famous pulled-pork BBQ really badly but I'm afraid it will thaw too much before it gets delivered (even with next day delivery). I found a company about 30 miles away that makes dry ice pellets, but they only do it certain times every few months.

Is there a decent university with a science department near ya?  They often have (make) dry ice).

Update....Tell me when yer ready and I will have dry ice delivered to you!

Went hunting over the weekend and killed these two plus three smaller ones.

I can't remember how many shots it took, but it was a BUNCH.

After killing those 2 I'd be surprised if you could count your fingers, never mind how many shots.  ;D

I haven't had time to hunt.......whine whine~~~ But I did go this morning.. it was misty and foggy and windy.. I sat in the stand for a couple hours and didn't see anything. Going back out in about an hour.. sun is out so it may be where I will gt a shot tonight. I just want a big doe as I will pull the strap and the choice off the hind quarter and make the rest in jerky..
Mark got a really nice 12 point with a drop down tine..
Another friend of ours got a nice buck that will score in the 200's too..
Now understand... if I SEE a buck tonight.. I won't pass him up..  ;)

I've seen lots of rabbits .. hopefully the damned coyotes and hawks will not get them and I can bag a few of them this next week..  :)
