2009 Big game season.
« on: December 11, 2009, 02:51:47 PM »
Since I didn't get to go deer/elk hunting this year, has anyone had any luck so far in their hunts?

Lost my two duck and goose places to outfitters so my hunting this fall has not been a good one.  >:(

I've only been really a few times but I got a young whitetail doe last month before rut. I've seen a few more since then but I never got a shot.

Saw a big whitetail buck but did not get a chance to shoot him. I shot a big doe. Saw a mink while I was hunting my son was amazed.

Broke my damn toe about the start of small game season so I've not even taken the 870 out of the case this year.  Don't hunt whitetail 'round here cause, well, I'm lazy.....don't like hunting with a shotgun and not in to muzzleloading either.

Might trade in the 870 for a nice skeet gun this spring.  It will do double duty as an upland gun too...or keep the old pump gun and leave it for home invasions...never know when the liberals get restless...

Have not been myself. My son has killed a couple on his girlfriend's dad's land. He gave the meat to folks he has on a waiting list since our freezer is full.

As of this very morning we've killed 4 whitetail deer on our property, 1 nice 8 point buck, 2 large bodied does and a  buck that was so well endowed that the hunter though he was a doe :o

I have not shot any of these myself. My criterion for whitetail shooting is that it has to be a better buck than the last one I shot - (very nice 10 point). I don't much care for whitetail venison myself so I trade these 'hunts' for an opportunity to shoot Axis on other properties.
Best Wishes, Mike.
