Title: Women should not be able to drive take 2.
Post by: TAB on December 18, 2009, 08:15:01 PM
So a Female relative of mine is called me up complaining of a funny sound coming from her car this morning. so she pulls over calls AAA and has it towed home. I get there at about 10 am to take a look at it. So I have the hood poped, she startes it up. There is no doubt, she threw a rod. Now this car is a 01, it has a little over 80ks miles on it. She got the car when it had about 35k miles on it. in that time, she never had the oil changed or even checked it. >:(
So now I get the joyful task of putting a motor in it. yay >:(
I went ahead and strated draining all the fluids. I could only get about half a quart of oil out of it, and what came out was like black vasoline. it might work as axle grease...
Rant off

The "Service Engine Soon" light bulb probably burned out 25,000 miles ago,.......
"Female Relative",.....That means you can't charge her for stupidity,... ???

How old is she? I only ask this because if she's near your age, you could tell her that you will not touch the car unless she learns hot to do the simple things like check the oil and then log it in a small sprial.
That way you get to show her what to do and check up on her sho that this doesn't happen again.
Just a thought.

My ex never changed her oil and I always had to do it. She never knew when her last oil change was or what her mileage was either and I kept asking. One time she went 35,000 miles before I checked it mysef. I told her if she blew the engine I wasn't buying her another car. Shortly after our divorce she was driving a Geo so I guess she blew it up.
This is the same woman who aired up her tires at a gas station to the maximum pressure the compressor had. One tire exploded with the belts seperating and blew the fender off. I checked one the other tires and my gauge broke. I used a special high pressure gauge and it pinned the needle on all three tires.

Sounds like my ex, JF, except she never aired up the tires unless they were flat.
She used to drive with the washer fluid idiot light on, never replaced the fluid unless the windshield was so filthy that you couldn't see through it. I warned her not to do that, that she would become accustomed to having warning lights on, not a good thing.
She called me from the side of the road, said the car was smoking. I got there, checked it out - no water. She had a hose come lose from a strap and cut a hole, drained the system, and of course the idiot light came on. When I saw the light and asked her about it, she said what light? Warped the head.
She got the car in the divorce - on purpose, no way I would go near it - and she ended up literally driving the car into the road - the repairs were higher than what the vehicle was worth.

Make her get a bike and peddle it to where she needs to go, maybe she will start to take care of her property.

I'm a total freak about oil changes. Both my truck and Mel's car get a oil and filter change every 2,000 miles. We bought both new in 1991, and they run as well as the day we bought them. Both pass emission tests with flying colors. We took the Mustang 5.0 up to Prescott this past week when we bought our 2, milled AK's, and both ways, (208 miles total) it averaged 21.1 MPG. We drove 75 MPH on cruise all the way. Not too bad for a V-8 with 140,000 miles. Bill T.

reminds me of a Story my Bro-outlaw told me
chick saw oil light on, pulled in to servo and quote "Toped it up"
paid for oil drove down the road 10 mins white smoke bellowing out of the car making funny noise,
called my Bro inlaw then car stops. he goes to pick her up and tow the car asked what happened. well the light came on so I filled the oil up. ok how much did you put in um.... to the top ( of the engine IE filled it to the top of the filler )
oil was pissing out of it everywhere the engine had ceased up. also a lack of water in the radiator did not help new engine needed
year later apparently she did the same thing again
some people should not own cars

It is definitely a gene thing...and we are there because of jeans so...we're stuck. ::)
I use the high priced synthetic oil in the wife's vehicles. Twice the water pump went out (separate vehicles) and I got 45k more miles out of one of them and 75k outof the other before I could afford to change them out. The first one actually ran so hot it stopped running...maybe twice. I doubt I would have had the good fortune if I had been running standard oil which has limited high temperature performance. On the second one there was a warped head that let antifreeze in the crankcase when it got cold....I added some grits to the radiator and voila'...no more problem.
But a thrown rod...man I hate to work on cars especially before the Holidays.

When the spousal unit and I were dating she came to me because her car was "making a funny noise". It sounded like a Singer sewing machine. I asked her when she had last checked her oil......she gave me a blank stare. I asked when she had last CHANGED her oil....her response, "You've gotta CHANGE it?!?"
I calmly explained to her that if her car needed both oil and gas, but she had enough for only one of the two, she should put in oil. I explained that if her car quit running because it ran out of gas she could put in more gas and it would run again. But, if it stopped running because it ran out of OIL, she could pour oil into it until Hell turns Methodist and it ain't gonna run anymore.
Women: If it weren't for the soft skin, the gorgeous eyes, the silky hair, the sweet smell, the curves, the sexy voice, the butt and the boobs, I SWEAR I wouldn't even bother TALKING to them. ;D
