Title: Holster blues.......
Post by: tekoken on April 17, 2010, 10:32:17 PM
I bought an FNH FNP 9 USG a couple days ago & Galco seems to be the only company that makes a holster for it. I was looking for a serpa from Blackhawk or an IWB from Don Hume but they don't have squat. I've never owned a Galco are they worth the money?

Every Galco I've run across seems to be well made. They are a well-established holster maker that has been around a while.

Also, there is a guy on here named Andy Langlois that has a custom holster business who has done work for other members.

Send him a PM or email and see if he can make one like you need.

Also try Fist Holsters at www.fist-inc.com or ca;; 800-443-3478.  I had them make me a holster and it is top shelf!  They can make it your way (for a price).

FWIW

PS:  I am in no way being paid to endorse Fist Holsters....don't I wish!

For IWB I highly recommend Tucker Gun Leather's "Silent Thunder."  It is leather lined kydex with an adjustable cant and retention.  I've got one for my FNP-9 as well as the 1911s.

This is the first firearms related business that I ever heard an advertisement for on the radio. Now there is all sorts of firearms related ads. God bless Texas.

Comp-Tac makes an IWB Kydex or leather. Their Spartan model works IWB for my FN9.  Also Bianchi 3S makes a Leather version with thumb snap,

Bladetech PDS IWB is a nice one.  Safariland 27 Inside-The Pant Holster Polymer insert to retain shape when empty.

And YES Galco is very good, look at their SkyOps, Summer Comfort, or Ultra Deep Cover.

Just happened to have the new Midway Master Catalog infront of me. ,,,,and no I don't work for Midway,....(I wish I did though)...

Holsters shouldn't give you the blues,....turn that frown upside down. ;D

+1  I have a FIST K1 holster for all my pistols. I'm very happy with them as well. I use one every day for a G19

I do have a Galco 3 slot belt holster for my P239. Very well made and still in good shape after many years. Still use a Galco belt as well.

Galco does have quality gear.

There are a lot of nice custom holsters but I want one asap not in 3-10 weeks. I'm gonna order the Galco "Concealable Belt Holster" & give it a shot. It looks well made, comfortable, pretty easy to conceal with the right shirt & if Galco is good enough for Bob Munden they're good enough for me. Thanks for the suggestions there's some nice stuff out there if you have the money & patience!

Galco is solid. I have one of their "el cheapo delux" IWB models. Cost a whole thirty dollars. They probably wish they'd never made it and I keep lookng for a reason to upgrade. Its a soft, inside out leather IWB. No structural integrity and its impossible to do a one handed reholster. Still, its the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. I honestly forget I'm carrying sometimes. It took two weeks to get used to, but now I don't even feel the Glock. Not for everyone, but for me, I wouldn't sell it for $100. If the rest of their line is as nice as this one, you won't be dissapointed.

I ordered the Galco yesterday. It should be here before my weekend trip to the range with my new FNP 9 USG. The Crossbreed looks like one that I'll have to pick up also but maybe for my Commander. Thanks again everyone!

Here it is....My new Galco "Concealable Belt Holster" after a few hours of break in it's still pretty stiff but pretty damn comfortable. I will only carry this gun once in a while because my S & W 442 is so comfortable in a pocket holster. I just picked up some MILITEC-1 to help break in my new FNP 9 USG this weekend at the range. I'll report on all three after the weekend.

Put the gun in a plastic bag and then into the holster.  It does a pretty good job of breaking them in properly.

Nice that's a great tip, I'll do that right now. Thanks!

Tim forgot to mention soaking the holster, THEN put in the pistol in the plastic bag and let the holster dry out.
My Dad makes Holsters and that is how he fits one to a gun, with out the holster being soaked there is no need for the bag.

For initial forming, I use water to soak the holster during boning the shape of the pistol to the holster, and the nice thing about doing your own, you can put in on your body, and let the holster take the shape of your body contour. If the holster is already made, I soak in denatured alcohol, pistol wrapped in saran wrap or a bag, then put it on the body, the advantage is it dries almost immediately, sometimes will remove some color, and it will need to be oiled again to protect the leather.

Warning: Alcohol vapors are highly flammable, do not use the technique near any open flame. The vapors can be very strong to the nose and eyes, so only do in an open, airy area.

+ 1 on the alcohol. I've used that for knife sheaths before.

+1 on Galco. I've been to their plant that is located here on the north side of town. I once worked for a company that was just down the street from them. They have an ultra modern facility much like Bianchi's plant in Temecula, California. They are expensive, but worth what you pay. With more Internet sales today that don't involve face to face meetings anymore, that is becoming much more rare in business.

I purchased one of their F.L.E.T.C.H. Holsters for my Glock 21 and I'm very pleased with their workmanship. Beautiful grade of leather and stitching. The pistol fits perfectly. Melanie wants to get one of their "Pistol Purses". They have several models, and again are very expensive, but the quality is very good. I can't see skimping on something that is going to protect the handgun that protects you. I want to get a better belt that is CCW specific, and again I'm going to look at Galco first.  I have yet to see anything they make I can find fault with.  Bill T.

D.M. Bullard (http://www.dmbullardleather.com/ (http://www.dmbullardleather.com/))   is making holsters for the FNP-9 - here is his right hand 'Bodyguard' http://estore.websitepros.com/1565531/Detail.bok?no=246 (http://estore.websitepros.com/1565531/Detail.bok?no=246).  I have several of his holsters for my carry guns, including the crossdraw - really good quality and excellent price.  He has other styles and can make changes, add thumb strap, etc., if you wish.

Peg,

Thanks for the mention!

I don't have a dummy gun to mold around for his gun. BUT.... if a customer has a dummy gun I would be glad to mold around it and whip up what he/she might need. I recently did this for a few oddball pistols and the system worked well.

Most of my production is for the 1911 with the occasional Glock/Jframe tossed in. My LCP OWB is getting popular as is the variant for the Walther P22.

Thx!

Andy

No guys you got it wrong...you put the gun in a plastic bag, soak the holster in water and put the gun in so the holster can dry around it and then DRINK the alcohol!
