I posted this topic because I just got an email from my best high school friend announcing the birth of a daughter. We shared a phone call which brought up old memories. His dad was the priest at an Episcopal Church. When my friend Ted, the old man and his mom went away to deal with his sister's complicated pregnancy, they left his younger brother Theo alone for 4 weeks. He was fifteen. Bad idea. I, as the responsible college freshman and semi-adopted son, was put in charge of making sure he didn't burn the house down while he went to summer school for having flunked math (been there, done that, got the T shirt). Also a bad idea. Anyway, I call Theo one day, to make sure he's still alive. The answering machine picks up " BONG (sound of a chinese gong Theo had bought for his band). Pause...You have reached the home of the Holy Man La!!@#$%(name deleted). BONG! Here, sins are forgiven and hypocrisy justified, all for $19.99 a month. For prior iindulgences..pauses....BONG...$100 for venal sins, mortal sins are negotiable. BONG..Thank you for calling the Holy Man La@##$. I tore him a new one. What I didn't realize was that he left the same damn thing on the Church's machine, with no one being the wiser. ;D The damn thing was up and running for nearly a month. A stumbling block? Try an offensive guard. ;D Twenty years later and that still makes me laugh. Anyone have similar stories to share?

My dad was a Wesleyan Pastor (this part of the reason John Wesley Hardin is THE most intriguing western figure for me, but that's another story for another time).
Back when my sister was in high school in the '90's my sister had a toy cell phone that she took our Christian Academy and told one of the teachers that she had an important call that would probably come in during the class. Well, she hit the ringer and the teacher kindly let her 'talk on the phone.' Later one of the other students let it slip that it was fake and the teacher got a bright idea to play a trick on the elderly secretary. For TWO days they played with that thing at school.

Peacher's Kids : How Bad Are They?
Why does their parents' choice of fruit matter?.... :-\

Don't know that I can define a "preacher," but Chunk can get preachy ;D

They grow better peaches in Texas. Fredricksburg to be precise. I'm not a huge fan, except in ice cream, but I can tell you that homemade peach ice cream with Tx. peaches is a very special thing.

How bad are they? How about bad to the bone. My grandfather started his career as a circuit riding Lutheran minister in west Texas and New Mexico in the early 1900's and into the deprssion years. First by horseback and buggy, later trains. There were 9 children in his family and my father and several of my aunts and uncles became Lutheran school teachers and one uncle followed in my grandfathers footsteps and became a preacher also. From the stories I have heard of my aunts and uncles growing up and what I have seen of some of my cousins, I'm surprised they still let us in church sometimes. No specific stories to tell, as the statute of limitations may not have expired on some of the incidents, and some family secrets you just don't tell.

I knew this chick... when she went to college... well long story short, she ended up getting arrested as a prositute. ;D
She lived up to the statment "crazy in the head, crazy in the bed"

The next time I'm having a big bowl of hot peach cobbler with a big scoop of home-made vanilla ice cream on top, the last thing on my mind will be Texas........(no offense to fine Texans out there).

All I can say is I'm NOT surprised,.....The more things change, the more they stay the same.... ;D
Carolina Peaches have been getting better every year. ;)
The stereotypical "Preachers Daughter" is NO stereotype...

Best peaches come from Colorado.
Preacher's kids come in 22 flavors - follow in the footsteps, and wild and abandoned. I knew one who was headed to the later, never did find out if she went that way or not. Damn fine kisser though. And that was early HS a loooooong time ago.

As to the OP, my mother is a "preacher's kid" and is a fine southern woman of high moral character.....and as a preacher's grand-kid, I don't think I turned out too awful bad....after a few edges got sanded down......(??). ;) ;D

Jim Scouten posted on Facebook the following: "No matter how beautiful she is, somewhere there is a guy who is tired of her sh!t".

+1, to all of the above. My mom's dad was a preacher and she and I both turned out just fine, thank you. Her brothers, however, are a different story. ;D

Beg to differ. At 19 I came up with the "FQ13 No Crazy People Rule". She was attractive, willing and intelligent. We got back to my dorm room, and things went well, until she started chanting something about "I am the moon, I am the Moon etc". Long story short, I DO have the will power to kick a naked woman out of my bed with nothing improper having happened. ;) Life is too short and too precious to go to sleep next to a crazy person.
FQ13 who is a sadder and wiser man ;D

My older brother was raised by my grandparents, who were BOTH Full Gospel preachers. He told me he threw parties or had girls over every time they went out of town for a mission trip. How he got away with it in a small town, I don't know... Except there was that time they came home early.......
I can't blame him..... I'd probably have done the same thing. ;D

Actually, my sister and I were never rebellous. We moved enough where trying to fit in with the cool crowd just wasn't very appealing. The first cigar I had was at a buddies bachelors party. Which consisted of going to the range, playing poker with chips (none of us gamble), watched a couple movies drank alot of pop and were ready to call it a night at 2200 of course we started at 1000

PKs grow up with a fine understanding of sin. And, they know that forgiveness is divine. They know instinctively, that before you can experience forgiveness for sin, you just gotta commit the freakin' sin. Since forgiveness is the best/only way to get to heaven the experience can be truly divine.
Offered for your thoughts by Crusader, who can attest to the above, and continues to give thanks for Preacher's Daughters and the life experiences (and need for forgiveness) thay were willing to share. ;D ;)

Who shows better character, some one who, having indulged, chooses not to, or some one who just does as they are told with out any other "research" ?

For some reason when I was younger these were the type that seemed to be most attracted to me. Some were certifiable. Sort of gets you questioning your own sensibilities.

Depends on your definition of research. Is it better to learn by someone elses bad decisions or learn on your own and have 1. scars 2. a rap sheet 3. end killing someone 4. killing yourself.
While I'd never claim I'm all that pius, seeing and hearing all the heartache booze caused families in the church made it an easier decision not to. I tend to believe let others be the destructive ones...I have no regrets never getting drunk.
