Take the basic actions, change the tools and the locations, and think of how you could find yourself under a similar attack.
I have developed the bad habit of stopping on Whale Wars when I channel surf. I don't want to get into the politics of the Japanese for "whaling," or the general attitudes of these "hippies." (my 60's redneck showing)
The whale protectors go after the whaling ships with prop foulers made of rope and cable, the throw bottles of acid on the decks of the whaling ships, and now they have taken a potato gun to launch acid on the decks. They use their boats to block and play chicken with the whaling ships. They also fly black flags with a skull with a cross below made of a shepherd's crook and trident ... sure sounds like a pirate flag to me.
Now a Japanese ship as run into one of the "pirates." Granted the little boat was sitting still when the harpoon ship hit it and took the bow off, but given the attacks by the pirates ...
How do you respond when someone disagrees with you and resorts to violence in constant confrontations that they initiate? Grandma's old warnings about avoiding fights and just turning the other cheek or walking away only go so far when the gnat keeps chasing you down.
As I type and my blood continues to boil one of the pirate ships is informing the harpoon ship that "International Law" demands they respond to the mayday. However, when the Japanese ship starts to lower a rescue boat the pirates warn that they will defend their friends.
My main question prompted by this irritating show is How do we respond when idiots treat us this way?

Grandpa use to say "I'm running out of places to hide the bodies". Might be your answer.

Ever heard of the Rainbow Warrior? That would be my suggestion to the Japanese govt.
These retards and by that I mean The Sea Shepherd and her criminal crew and friends, come down to tassie every year, they have ties to known terrorists have been responsible for sinking ships themselves yet none of this is every highlighted by the liberal greeny doo gooder media. These assclowns are not even supported by greenpeace, they have disowned them.
They bitch and whine when something happens to them, well boo $## hoo, they are the ones down there creating the dangerous situations, shining green lasers into the eyes of the sailors, throwing butric acid bombs on the deck of the whaling boats creating bloody dangerously slick conditions. But thats all ok if some one dies (as long as its not one of them) because its all in the name of the whales........give me a break. Its all in the name of conning more money out of rich benefactors and sapping money out of the dickheads that buy in to Paul Watsons BS!

I too watch Whale Wars, mostly for the seamanship and latest "gadgets" to interrupt the Japanese whalers.
In the International Waters where they harass and stalk the whaling fleet, they are, according to maritime law, no better than the Somali Pirates.
The Japanese have shown more than due patience, and the previous post when the "bat boat" got its nose cut off, goes to the direct terrorism at sea that they are coordinating, and they are lucky holes aren't punched into the hull via rifle rounds.
The Ady Gil (bat boat) was twice as fast and agile than the whaler patrol boat, yet, played chicken and lost.
The Eskimos of Alaska, are also allowed under Federal Treaty, to hunt and harvest seals, including those cute furry white ones, and once a year they follow the limit laws, and go home.
I may not agree with modern day whaling, but the Japanese are operating within the International laws and treaties, and have been more than tolerant to these "black" ships.
If it were my ship? A Barrett .50 would be punching holes from stem to stern below the water line, and I would even issue a Mayday on their behalf, provide a lifeboat if needed, and give their sorry ass GPS coordinates to the Coast Guard and let them sing some song like the tree hugger video posted some time back.

Phil and TW , you have missed the point of M58's post.
My thinking runs with Bulldog. 60 ft of water hides a multitude of sins.
( Gee, looks like he tried to steal more chain than he could swim with. )

Response to these wankers is difficult, if for no other reason than the fact that they are looking for you to respond - that is their whole purpose. And hopefully the more you react the better for them.
When the Addy Gil was sunk, who was doing the filming? The Japanese were, they have found they need to have cameras running all the time as well so they can get their side of the story. But the whole thing was being professionally filmed for distribution to the mass media by Watson's people. The first to market was Watson's video - on purpose. They controlled the story at first, and that is part of how they operate.
Given the amount of time it took for the international Navies to react to real, aggressive, murdering pirates off Somalia - and have yet to confront off SE Asia, I doubt seriously that any gummint will do squat about Watson and his crew. So it's up to the Japanese. And the Rainbow Challenger idea is not that bad an idea. Or a turncoat crew member scuttling the boat under Watson would be enjoyable as well. I would even send lifeboats - eventually.

Hey, I like critters as much as the next guy.....I like the petting kind and the eating kind! ;D
When a man, woman or hermaphrodite puts another human life at risk for the sake of a critter, it's a crime against humanity and should be handled accordingly.
Deep Six the dipshit! He's putting his own crew, (not experienced sailors) at risk every time he goes to sea and the producers of the show should be ashamed of themselves.

I didn't get it wrong.
Phil is just so much easier to spell . ;D

Although I've seen a few episodes of that show I really can barely watch it, and usually don't. The question posed here is a tough one because Whale Wars is a horrible and abberant example of human behavior. They set up scenarios where they trespass then scream to the press and the world that some of their crew are "being held hostage". The captain is probably a psychopath (notice how he doesn't say a whole lot on the show?). There's another reason why he doesn't say much either. I don't know why they are not yet in prison. They are documenting their own illegal behavoir... video evidence of piracy and other crimes. They should be in jail and we should be watching gun shows instead.
That's all the time I"ll waste on that crap.

You can use ROB if ROBERT is a little testy for the tounge :P
It even has less letters than phil to type

If you get a chance to DVR the episode where the Ady Gil is sent to the bottom of the sea...rewind and take a close look at the Japenese footage of the moment of impact. The camera angle being above the Ady gives one a better view of the collision. I don't believe the Ady wasn't sitting still as the Shepherds would have us believe from their edited footage....Much like the infamous staged shooting of Paul Watson incident.
You can see the tell tale white plume from the forward propulsion at the stern of the Ady as if that boat were intentionally driven into the the Whaler under power. I believe they were attempting to as the captain put it...Brush the Whaler, but an over zealous engineer...who mysteriously was the only person left below at the time...misjudged and gave the Ady a little too much throttle.
I have always been taught that the more agile boat is responsible for giving way to larger and harder to steer ships. The Ady Gil had the responsibility to avoid this collision but didn't because they were seeking attention from the media by terroristic tactics and such provocations...
How do we respond when idiots treat us this way?
Their (being the Sea Shepherds aka...Environmental Terrorists) dangerous actions and tactics should be met with enough direct and decisive force to neutrilize and prevent further endangerment of HUMAN life. Personally I think a harpoon bolt hitting just above the waterline would get the point across and give them a fighting chance for limping back to port...If not then Pirates they all are and as such should suffer a Pirates fate.

Not real sure how to take that from a guy with a Skull and Cross Bones for an avatar.
Either you hate your life and wish it on your foes, or you are soft on Eco-Aholes.
Not sure which ;D

The Japanese Navy could end the whole situation by declaring the whale huggers to be pirates, and simply confiscating their vessels whenever they show up. Their crews can be interned, and the vessels sunk. At some point the economics of the situation will end the activities.

How much of a navy is Japan allowed to have currently?

Next door to Red China and N Korea ?

I will respond in appropriate fashion and do the right thing until it is no longer possible to do the right thing. That being said, the show is a lesson in futility IMO.

Tombogan03884, I am the type of person who dislikes Hypocrits....If you play the game then you had best be prepared for the resulting consequences. These Sea Shepherds are Environmental Terrorists and as such should be treated as such.
I watch Whale Wars for the same reason I suspect many others on these forums watch it. Waiting for the episode that shows the Bob Barker and the Steve Irwin joining the Ady Gil at the bottom of the Sea...<----Not unlike those who watch Nascar for the crashes...I happily admit it. I only hope that when it happens...and I believe it will that the actions of these so called Shepherds don't end up killing anyone.

You hit the nail on the head when comparing the two footages. The Ady's footage made you believe that they had run out of fuel and were sitting and waiting for the Sea Shepherd for assistance. The Bob Barker is leaving them behind, and saying see you later while the Sea Shepherd is still 500+ miles away. However, the footage from the Japanese ship shows that the Ady Gil was moving ... really moving! They appeared to be showing as much wake as ever shown in any Whale Wars footage. Top that with the shots from the Bob Barker where the harpoon vessel appeared to be steering clear to port of both vessels, and then the Ady is suddenly in front of the harpoon vessel. Me thinks that a runt played chicken with the big bull and lost.
I agree with what appears to be the general direction on here: Take necessary actions for the dangers presented to you.

I put all of these people into much the same category as the drunk Aussie who climbed into the Crocodile cage to ride "Fatso". I don't want to see harm come to anyone, but when you're all but begging for it............ Oh well. Most of these people desperately need, but do not have, a hobby. Like Al Pacino said to his worthless wife in "Scarface", "Why don't you go work with blind kids or something?". Bill T.

the SS have made there boat to Ram other vessels with the hull strengthened + hack Spit Paul Watson has gone on record about ramming vessels
they are ego terrorist and should be treated like that...
