Title: The Quaker is back from Montana
Post by: fightingquaker13 on July 30, 2010, 12:53:29 AM
I stand stunned at the silence following this news. ;D Short version? A great trip with the old man, many trout caught, pretty scenery viewed, good food eaten (Basically for free as Mt. has no sales tax. If you like great food, screw NY, go to Livingston.). On the amusing front, I was nearly eaten by a bear (twice), a badger once, and lost a sweet job to a Griz as three dumb asses (or at least one dumbass who caused collateral damage) failed to police their campsite. This caused the offer of a camp ground host at Slough Creek, one of the premire trout streams in the US to be rescinded. Seriously, I was looking at a four hour day  within rock throwing distance of one of the best trout streamds out there. It was deemed "too dangerous" by the Ranger. I'll give you "too dangerous". I propose a 4 day DRTV camp out and bacon fry. The bear will last 5 minutes. ;D Se la vie. ::) Details to follow.
FQ13 who really wants the Ruger Alaskan in .454 and wonders if suggesting to the Ranger that the bear problem could be solved in about 48 hours by hanging a dead deer in a meadow with a 400 yard line of sight, hardening the F%^K up, and just shooting the SOB without filling out the paper work , was an unwise interview strategy? I obviously have spent too much time studying the Tombogan school of diplomacy, but honestly, how hard is it to kill a bear if you know where it lives? Get off my obstacle Pyle! ;D

Welcome back...

Someone was killed outside Jellystone this week by a Griz....and a few others injured.  I did think of you and your dad when it was first reported.

Treasure the experience, Quaker, and file it away in the "easily retrievable" memory banks.  You just created a tremendous bit of history with your Old Man.  That is beyond value.

Offered by an envious Crusader whose own Dad spent Tuesday through Thursday in the hospital with an internal bleed of undetermined origin.*

*Turned out to be a perforated ulcer caused by NSAIDs used to treat painful hips and knees.  He's back in his own home now, and resting comfortably.  Sister stepped up and is taking care of him proving even a loony-lefty can do the right thing on occasion.

Being taken out of context is an alarming problem these days!    ;D

Glad you're safe FQ....told you those little bells and pepper spray would pay off... ;)

Welcome Back, FQ  :D :D

Sounds like a great trip.  Just have to make plans for another trip to that trout stream.

While I am not a phan of Huked on Foniks, I do feel the emphasis on correct spelling is over rated.

Bad Spellers of the World Untie!!

Andrew Jackson, who's wife used to tutor him in the Oval office, said "it's a d**ned small mind that can only find one way to spell a word", was the originator of the phrase "OK". It means All Correct  ;D

LOL..

When in grade school I used to dread spelling bees because I was always the first one out and felt some what ashamed.

Soon, however I got hooked on reading SciFi books and found I could read them during class as soon as I missed a word, so I took pains to miss on my first chance.  The teachers, I think, used to take pity on me and give me easy words and it took some creativity to misspell some of them..

My shining moment was when I managed to misspell   "kink" ...   kinq did the trick.

It was three people. One dead and two FUBARed. It was also the bear that cost me my job. It was all "When can you start"? Then the  freaking bear, and it was "I don't feel good about hiring you unless you haver a hard sided camper". Look lady, I may be living out of an 8 person tent (a North Face Mountain Mansion, two rooms and tall enough to stand up in with a cot and chair), but I also have a Maverick Special Purpose which will give me 9 rounds of 12 gauge slugs. Game over, bear loses. While I feel bad about the casulties, what part of "Bears are present, don't get piss drunk and pass out before cleaning up dinner" dicd you fail to understand?
FQ13 who has lost a few jobs, but never one due to a bear attack before :-\

Ruger Alaskan & 12g.

Caught the "Worlds Most Dangerous Vacations" on cable, .....it had the fishing grounds where you were. The guide was armed with a Remington 870, and Ruger Alaskan.

Kinda like lifeguards at the beach, green flag, yellow flag, red flag,...Momma bears are the worst, according to the guide.

Welcome back FQ.

If one is camping out there, it's like being at sea. Someone is sober and on watch, with a never going out camp fire, and lots of big firepower.

Just those same ol same ol damn iguanas around this summer.... ;D

Actually what they are doing now is using portable electric fences

That better be a powerful electric fence. Wish I would have thought of that when I was active duty.

Yeah, I was being an A hole   :o
They probably run off solar.
Still not something a back packer would benefit from .
Which brings up a mini rant :
If you bought all the must have crap that is advertised for hikers and backpackers you would need hiking trails wide enough for the Semi hauling all that sh!t.

The entire thing is supposed to weigh around 5 pounds, so I would think it would not be that big of a deal especially since most camping trips out to that country invole horse/mule or perhaps an airplane
