Title: Storm Damage...
Post by: ellis4538 on April 28, 2011, 09:07:22 AM
Woke up early this morning to the sound of high winds.  Didn't think much of it for a while but later decided to check things out.  Seems we had a pine tree uprooted in the back yard!!!  Luck was with us and our neighbors so to speak because we only lost some wood fence and old chainlink.  If it had blown over any other way it would have taken out a very large pole barn, an above ground pool or two or one of three or four old garages or a small house occupied by a young Mother and Daughter.  Believe me, I said a silent prayer of thanks.

Can't complain except finances are tight and having it cleaned up is going to be costly.  Insurance should cover the fence and I will be keeping the wood to burn at the camper.  Not sure what I'm will have to do about the stump.  Might leave it for a while as a reminder.  LOL

Hope the storm has passed you all by safely.

Glad to hear no major damage was done!  Seems to be more "severe" storms than usual the last two years or so...  I blame Obama!   ;)

Glad to hear you made it through without major damage.

We've had 3 straight weeks with tornadoes.  Thankfully, the worst that's happened here is no power yesterday afternoon through this morning.  There's major damage all around us though, especially to the east in AL.

I'm tired of the storms.

We are just rolling into our summer version of weather up here.  Every year I watch those to the south and am amazed by the constant and lengthy rolling of storms.  We get that in the winter, but we can just hunker down and wait for tomorrow.  You don't know if tomorrow will come!

Glad you are ok, and if I were closer I would bring the loader, chains and chainsaw to match your steak, corn on the cob and beer  ;)

Good luck on the clean up!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all our brothers and sisters caught up in these terrible storms.  250 confirmed dead with prospects of a rapidly increasing number as the destruction is searched.  We plead God's mercy on their souls.

^^^^^^^^^^What CR said.

I've spent the last week checking with friends I have all over the south and midwest to make sure they're safe.  There have been several close calls but so far everyone is fine.

My prayers to those in harms way....having lived my youth in the storm belt, I truly understand the fury that mother nature can spill forth.

Isn't it interesting how hundreds of people in our own back yards have been killed, thousands left homeless, lives destroyed, and all the media can talk about is a STUPID WEDDING IN ANOTHER COUNTRY INVOLVING PEOPLE WHO MEAN NOTHING TO THE WORLD AS A WHOLE.  AND NEVER WILL...   >:(

I'm watching CNN right now and Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is on with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox and Pres. BHO.  The Gov. praised and thanked the local responders for their work and the communities for their preparedness, and the Mayor assured the Pres. that the government will be proud of how they pull together as a community and recover.

They did thank the Pres. and say his appearance is an appreciated show of support.  Then the Pres. followed with making sure we all knew which politicians were all there and a little glad handing.  Oh yea, Pres. BHO shooed bugs away from the Gov. while he was speaking.

In my short description, does anyone notice a difference between how the people of Alabama responded to the disaster and greeted federal leaders following a sudden disaster as opposed the people of Louisiana who had over a week to prepare?  By the way, the Pres. did not bring or promise anything today except that the federal government will be looking at this and working with help in the future.

Personal and local responsibility by good citizens is good to see!

We're pretty good folks down around these parts.  It's sad, but things will eventually recover.

I've tried not to watch too much coverage.  I'm just blessed that the big one missed me (barely) and a smaller one missed my folks (barely).

My parents live about half an hour east of Tuscaloosa. They made through it ok. Lost power and lots of wind but no major damage. I had no idea about the storms until people started calling me and asking how they were. Luckily their cell phones still worked.

Several were killed just a few minutes from us, we dodged a bullet. Seems all the storms go south or north of us. We have the mountains north and the lakes south. we are just north of Newport and Greenville Tn. Which got hammered . They say more will come because of  La Nena, the cooling of the seas as apposed to El Neno, the warming of the seas. Could be a rough season.
