Title: Limp wristing
Post by: RTFM on July 14, 2011, 08:12:55 AM
As the arthritis in my hands will get (and is getting) progressively worse - I'm noticing my single hand grip strength decreasing - causing me to have limp wrist failures in my Glocks (17, 19, 26)
So far "two handing" allows me to become stable and it has not caused any problems there, but my obvious concern I may not have time or ability to get both paws on together.

Are solid metal pistols effected "as much" as combat Tupperware to Limp wristing?
Example - if I change my Glock 17 back to a Sig P226, would an "all metal" pistol be as susceptible to limp wristing from decreased grip strength?

In the mean time - I'm getting some great range time with the S&W 442 J-frame with my eyes on SP-101 or GP-100 in my near future.

Thanks all
(getting old SUCKS!)

I feel for you, and I suffer the same as you  :'(

Can't compare to Glock, but 1911, 1911 clones, Mark III, M&P and XD all do the same when the stabbing wrist pain hits  :'(

My little KelTec is the only semi-auto I own that has not caused me problems.

Lots of water and asprin is the only thing I've found when it flares.

Old girlfriend got my P226 to FTF due to her lack of grip strength. The only time and the only person that could make that gun mess up.

Moral of the story is "Stick with young girlfriends!"   ;D

Ive seen people shoot with just a thumb and forefinger on a 1911 and get no FTFs. IMO if you do not lock the elbow it will help this problem. But than again I think plastic guns are more prone to this problem.

Similar to my old bullseye competition grip. I locked the gun into the web of my hand with the middle and ring finger applying the pressure to grip the gun. I never had problems, but I will admit that I was only loading 200gr semi wadcutters over 4.5 grains of Accurate #5 with a standard 16lb recoil spring.

The only reason she lasted as long as she did was world class, phenomenal, perfect tits. I mean PERFECT.  ;D
(That and she could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch....I guess that's 3 reasons)
Sadly, even perfect boobies when boozed up every day just lose their luster.

Meanwhile back at the ranch....
I've tried to get my G27 to fail by using only my thumb and trigger finger to fire it like 2how explained with 1911s.
It never failed to feed the next round while flipping through the air - and me trying to catch it like a dumbass. ::)

I suppose this is the ONLY correct reply - but I'll let you decide which picture. ;D

I've been thinking about this.
Without any real testing, research, or evidence, I think 2How may have a valid point about lighter polymer slides requiring more resistance to cycle properly.

Certainly some flex in the frame of the Glock:

Ahhh...good find Peg.

Reminds me of the tree in the hurricane....it can either bend or break....

This might also contribute to why felt recoil is less with a Glock.

Who uses polymer slides?

Reminds me of slapping  your M16 magazine against your helmet before inserting it.

During WWII that was how the Japanese armed their grenades.
Gave a whole new meaning to ALWAYS wear your helmet.
Must have sucked to be caught in a soft cover.  ;D

First time I shot a 44 mag was in a Desert Eagle and I managed to get a FTE...Stovepipe...

Not being sure of the recoil, I deliberately kept a firm grip on the gun but allowed it to pivot my arm upward at the elbow and shoulder.  FTE every time.

When I held it on target, no problems.

Isn't the palm in your face the incorrect way to find right or left eye dominance???  ;D

It's like that worrisome noise your truck engine started making several months ago....you did all you could to fine out what it was with no luck, but since everything worked ok, you just lived with it...

Then when it went away all of a sudden, you started looking under the  hood again to see what might have gone wrong.
