I was checking a few of the firearms auction sites today and could not find any SR1911s for sale. I'm just wonding if Ruger is shipping the SR1911 to wholesale distrbutors or is the first run still in production ?
-
Sportsman's Warehouse in Southern Idaho has had and sold two of them - I never got to see them but a guy I shoot with works there and said they lasted no more then 30 min on the pegs.
They do not know when and how many the will get from Ruger - but have an open order for "more"
-
It's like the Remington R-1. It will take 6 months for the supply to catch up with the demand. Bill T.
-
We have had 3 in so far. Have a waiting list for them.
-
Shooters in Jacksonville Florida has them. several last time i was there a month ago.
-
My friend had to wait five weeks from the time he paid the deposit on his SR. It shoots very well and was certainly worth the minimal wait.
-
Who cares they wont ship to SOCAL. JK ;D
-
Ordered one in May. Still waiting...
-
It seems that Ruger and CZ like to make people wait. I got sick of waiting for Ruger to get SR1911 for us here in SOCAL so I went to CZ for a CZ97b and Im still waiting. I placed my order in June and still nothing. :(
-
I think you guys really need to reconsider from whom to order a firearm. There are SR1911's on just about every stocking dealer's shelf I visit. A friend special ordered his right after the pistol was announced. As noted above, it only took five weeks to get it at the height of new gun madness.
-
Friend of mine picked this one up over the weekend.

I'm very jealous.
And JustBill, not all parts of the country have the same kind of dealers. There isn't one on a shelf anywhere in Memphis. Only been a few to come through.

Ok, I'm going to duck and cover, but I have to post this. Is it just me or is that thing butt ugly? I love blued steel and walnut. I love stainless, I love polymer and finishes made up out of steaming cauldrons. What I don't like is this combination. I have no problems with the performance, I'l take folks word on that. Its just an aesthetic thing. This is a gun that I would want to carry concealed, very concealed. ;) I am wondering if anyone else feels the same way or if its just me.

That was five minutes of google-foo....
I'm sure within 30 minutes, I could get more. When I bought my Kel-Tec P3AT, I was told by my local gun shop,.."We gotta list you can get on"....
Well, Guns America.com had a dealer in TX, with a bunch, in any color combo they sold,...Bingo,...had my NIB, KT transeferred to my local gunshop, and paid the transfer fee,....took about a week...
Yes FQ,...it is just you.... :-*

Davidson's is one of the largest Ruger distributors in the country, and are located right down the street from their Prescott, Arizona plant. They are still showing both models of the SR-1911 as "Allocated". Meaning, hard to get with the demand outstripping the supply. When they get them in stock on a regular basis, like they now have the Remington R-1, the run on them will be over.

All of those links say out of stock or backordered. You didn't find anything in stock. The demand on the SR1911 is greater than supply right now. It will catch up in a few months though.

Actually I thought it looked striking....but something seemed "odd" about it. After looking at it a bit I think it is that it looks upside down to me. Most stainless/blued(black) guns have the frame dark and the slide light.
The Ruger logo on the grip of a 1911 does seem "at home" to me...even if it has been long in getting there. Don't like the diamonds on the grip though.

The grips are my only bitch. I think it would look better with the wood grips the standard model comes with. It would add a bit of contrasting color. I can't tell if those grips are dark wood or plastic.

This is my idea of how a two tone gun should look.
-
Saw one at a gunshow in Michigan last weekend and it had just been sold. That dealer sold four at that show and that was the last one he brought with him that day.
My observation over the years has been that how quickly dealers get new products seems to be how much business the various dealers do with what distributors. I've talked to some dealers that can't seem to be able to get some products and other dealers that get them in a day or two or even have the item in stock. One dealer I know likes one particular distributor over others because he gets free shipping even though it may take a little longer than other distributors. On one of the forums I visit, there is a dealer that seems to get and offer new products almost as soon as they are announced, and he gets a bit of a premium for them. Another dealer I know has a sales rep at one of the premier distributors that really is on the ball and gets new products to him fairly quickly. I've seen other dealers that are lazy and won't even try getting something if their perfered distributor doesn't have it in stock.
-
I like everything about that pistol. Skeletonized trigger and hammer. Love the grips. I really like the two tone color.
Waiting to see the range reports and articles in our fave firearm magazines.
And this is being posted by a Glockoholic. ;)

A lot of this is also determined by how many other, slower moving guns the dealer is willing to be "baited" into taking. For example in order to get say half a dozen Ruger 1911's in, they may have to agree to take a dozen slower moving models in at reduced cost. Smith & Wesson started this in the early 70's when S&W Model 29 sales skyrocketed after the film "Dirty Harry" came out. Smith would require a dealer to take several slower moving models just to be able to get one Model 29.
Smaller dealers with little inventory could not afford to do this, so they rarely had the Model 29 in stock. When the larger dealers did agree to this, S&W looked the other way, and pretty much allowed the dealer to scalp off the Model 29 for whatever price they could get. It was not at all uncommon to see new S&W 29's going for over $400.00 back then. At the time the gun listed for $183.00.

Nice post BillT, and very accurate. I used to work at a high end outfitters shop (Patagonia, North Face etc.). They all played the same game, and who can blame them? You reward your loyal customers, but if you can make them take some crap with their steak? Well why not? Unfortunately that hurts the little guy, and gives us more Gander Mountains and fewer "Bubba's Guns". :-\
Your point about scalping is also dead on. There is a word for the guy who is first in line for a new product. That word is sucker. Patience young Jedi, the price will go down, and if you wait long enough, someone else will also do your beta testing free of charge. Not that Ruger would ever have a recall or anything..... ;D

Back in the 80's many knife companies worked the same way, You want to stock the Schrade "Old Timer" or Buck Folding knife fine, you can have them along with the rest of the "Dealer display package"
