First things first:
I know it is always the few that makes the many look bad in any group. And I know several LEO personally that I consider to be "true cops." So this is not a carte blanch slam against any LEO anywhere.
One of the headlights went out on the way home and I was pulled over for it; no complaint there. What I took exception to was the little political comments against CCW when I presented my permit to the LEO. He asked me why I carried and if it was for self protection. I answered affirmatively. He gave a sneering remark about what the world is coming to with everyone carrying. I said nothing and kept my hands on the steering wheel where he could see them. He wasn't really worked up about the whole thing but his sarcastic attitude really didn't go down well with me.
This guy was an asshole.....

The videos/articles of cops becoming unglued, even if they are wrong or dumb, have been posted on here many times with regard to civilians lawfully carrying concealed.
They are truly the minority of LEO's. But it sounds like you did the absolute right thing. Be cool, be calm, be quiet, and let him do his thing,...and make it home to your family. Fight a ticket in court another day. Not on the street. You will lose.
Part of my former posts regarding the 6th branch of service; the militarization of our LEO's. Talk to the LEO's you know personally about this, and remind them lawful CCW folks ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.
-
I think some of them say stuff they know will inflame the detained person just to get a reaction and maybe justify further contact with said detainee. I remember seriously thinking about punching a cop one time because of his mouth. Fortunately I wasn't that drunk. But, to this day, it still pissed me off to think about it.

Cops are OK.
LEO's suck.
Ones there to "serve and protect".
The other is there to throw around the weight of his badge.

I take it he was unarmed? [/sarcasm]
If LEOs don't like guns and "what the world is coming to", then they should set an example and give theirs up first.
Either that or they can stick their eliteist attitude up their ass.

Now I don't have to quote you from memory. :D
You are only right.
The problem is the the growing attitude among Cops is that they are Enforcers with all the Jack Booted connotations that go with that sense of purpose.

That is exactly what many of them are trying to do. The best example you have is that total a$$hole of a cop that went off on a CCW holder in Canton, Ohio who had more patience than God. That cop did everything humanly possible to degrade and threaten him, and provoke a response. The citizen did not give him one.
A lot of cops think it's an infringement on their job. To even think you could protect yourself better, quicker, and safer than he could, is taken personally by many cops because of their attitude they acquire on the job. They feel because of the power the gun and badge brings, a sense of false superiority. Sometimes I think it takes a greater control of an individuals temperament to DEAL with a cop, than it does to actually BE one. Bill T.

That dash cam video, and others I'm sure we've all seen, display the very worst that the LE profession has to offer. I believe, however, that officers like the one depicted in this video are the exception - not the rule.
This also illustrates how important it is for concealed license holders to conduct themselves in a manner that is above reproach. When we have such a license and carry our weapons, our actions... and reactions... reflect not only on ourselves but also on every other licensee in America. Statistically, license holders are by far the most law abiding citizens in the nation.
An officer's job is to observe people - how they look, dress, drive, who they're with, where they are, when they're there, what they're doing, how they're doing it, and how all of this "fits" in the situation when considered as a whole. It's a dangerous and difficult job. The dedication, service, and sacrifice of good officers and their families are things that I appreciate.

That is a fact many officers simply refuse to recognise. They attempt to treat CCW holders as common criminals, rather than the valuable asset they are to both them, and the rest of society. In short many of them need to wake the hell up. It doesn't take a college degree to understand this. It is nothing more than common sense. Bill T.

As a group, it seems CCW holders are more law abiding than LEO's.

Nation wide, Cops have a higher conviction rate per capita then the general public...
Think about that for a second, also think about how much of the stuff they let slide for fellow officers.

Hi;
Last month I had a problem with a person habitually on my property. There is a new developemnet next to me and for the past several years the attitude of some of them is that their property is theirs and my property is theirs. Now this 1 guy I spoke to that day - I repeated my warning to stay off the property - 15 minutes later there he was on the road again, so I called the State Police and since I live in the country the dispatcher stated that he could not find my place and left. I had him call me and almost had to BEG the guy to respond to the call.
He did not want to walk with me and I show him what the problem was - he even stated that he did not want to be here and that Trespassing is not a crime ! I could not believe it, I guess if I had shot the trespasser or clubbed him over the head THEN they would have responded willingly.
I have come across SOME state police that understand issues with land and private property but they are far and few. Most just want to write up a report and leave. As I always tell the cops, my lawyer wants me to call them so that when the offenders get pulled into court there is a record on them. The cops dont care. Lawyers and courts can cost a lot and If I were to constantly bring these people to court - the money for my needs quickly goes away.
Cops of today do not think that they are servants of the people - just the "machine" !

These are the kinds of "officers" that need to be reported. Get them on record as being negligent. That way when they eventually DO go off on someone. There is a record of complacency and belligerence.

Cops need to police "their own" much more diligently. When they look the other way when they see corruption, or any bad behaviour, it hurts every good cop out there. They've been doing exactly that for decades, and it's getting worse. Much worse. Frank Serpico would have been dead in a week in today's world. Police, much like a lot of service related fields, have gone to hell in a hand basket in recent years. Bill T.

We had a crash here were a truck driver crossed the highway and killed 10 people.
All truck drivers suck. >:(

In case you forgot Serpico was set up to be killed by cops.
The biggest problem is that cops are unionized, just like every other unionized industry the shit stays since they can't be fired while the good ones look for another line of work.

Bet it was a union driver.

My point was it would have happened much sooner now than back then. Bill T.

You are right. All truck drivers suck....as opposed to cops where only the growing percentage of poor ones suck.

Exactly why I'm no longer a cop

Brilliant quote... (borrowing this!)
