I'd probably still be in jail for some of the fun stuff I did. Here I thought taking risks and doing stupid stuff was part of growing up.
Georgia Teens Accused of Detonating 10 Small Bombs in Backyard of House
SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Five teenagers face felony charges after being arrested on suspicion of making and detonating up to 10 bombs in the backyard of a house in Snellville, Ga., about 25 miles east of Atlanta, WSB-TV reports.
Snellville Police Det. Jim McDonald said the teens, ages 16 to 19, had made the small bombs using water bottles, bathroom cleaning fluids and aluminum foil.
He said officers found the remnants of 10 exploded devices in the backyard of the house.
"The container expands and pretty much just blows up," McDonald told the station.
Officers had surrounded the house with guns drawn after a neighbor rang police fearing someone was being shot.
The five teens face felony charges for possessing and manufacturing destructive devices, while two parents at the house will be charged with unruly conduct after telling police they thought the teens' bomb-making exploits were "harmless fun."

Maybe they should have found some place a little more isolated.

Yep, I'd done some time too... I emptied out sparkling fireworks and put it in a CO2 cartridge with a fuse. My brothers, both younger, and I were talking about it this summer in fact, good times 8)

I think most of us here would have been in jail if'n we wuz born today and did what we did 'then'.

remember when I said all of us are felons, just have not been cuaght yet... this is exactly what I am talking about.
I feel bad for my son, he won't be able to any of the stuff I did as a kid.

Hey Magoo I did something similar just used black powder instead. Also made a bunch of other things that made very loud noises with other kitchen ingredients that I will not mention. The best thing we made we called a polish cannon It was made with a Pringles can and a Pony beer can duct taped together add some lighter fluid and a tennis ball, boy those things would fly when set off just had to make sure no one stood behind you as the beer can some times flew off in the other direction. Unfortunately Pringles changed the diameter of the cans and it will no longer work.

NOT ME HAZ........never got caught! LOL

Downright scary to think I would now be a "multiple" 10 times, over convicted felon, for the stuff we did as kids... :-\
Pool-Acid, Plastic Coke Bottle, Foil,....guaranteed to kill your neighbors beautiful grass in a 10ft. circle down to where the dirt was deemed unusable.
It was our version of "crop circles"... :P
I guess blowing up mail boxes, and setting off smoke bombs on our school bus going home would also be a felony today,...
Generally, after my corporal punishment was administered at school, (why we don't do this anymore is truly sad), and my Dad exercising with his aerodynamic corporate leather belt on my butt, I never did that crap again....
It was fun at the time,..though,.... 8)
How about a parental ass whoopin' and work camp, for these kids,...take them to a working cattle, chicken, whatever farm, and "volunteer" for 12 hours a day on weekends, for a while,....
Oh, but that would be excessive,.......
Felony? C'mon,...

RANG? RANG? Who's the author? We don't say "RANG". We "called" or "phoned".
-
The Cleaner and tin foil reaction generates a dangerous acid residue, but the kids would face the same charges if they had used dry ice and water.
Pathetic.
-
The Pringles Syndrome ... that is what ails our society today.

Correct
the fun police have really stuffed it up for everyone these days

This is sad on so many levels.
I'm one of the youngest people on here, and I got away with things that you apparently can't do now. I've even been in a high school speech class where someone gave a "how to" speech on making a MRE bomb and gave an actual demonstration. I can't imagine how that would go over 10 years later.
I can understand when stuff like this happens along with threats, etc. that it needs to be treated differently. But in 95% + (completely random number I made up) of these types of cases, it's just kids being kids. Law enforcement really needs to find some common sense that has been lost over the years.
Yeah, kids do stupid things, and they get hurt. It's part of being a kid and growing up. We consist of multiple generations and multiple countries, and we survived alright. It ain't looking good, but maybe someday kids will be allowed to be kids again.

You just answered your own point - they are LAW ENFORCEMENT drones, no common sense required. And if it shows up, it will be brutally firmly removed from the premises.

Exactly, a "cop" would have said "Hey, cool it, the neighbors are complaining about the noise".
But the azzhole "LEO" is now bragging about his latest felony bust.
What makes it even sadder is that they were not being, in MKM's words, dumb.
They weren't blowing up mailboxes, or being destructive in any manner.

while two parents at the house will be charged with unruly conduct after telling police they thought the teens' bomb-making exploits were "harmless fun."
I skimmed it first time
did you notice the above post...
really #just shakes head
were these officers ever kids them selves
same with the shepple calling the police over it, when do you go from being a kid and having fun to needing to put everyone in bubble wrap and mollycoddle everyone because I never want to get to that stage.

There is no way we are going to achieve an orderly and predictable society if we allow individuals to pursue their foolish quests for excitement and wonder by allowing their imaginations run wild. Taking risks and experimenting with anything will allow them to develop a strong individual nature and that needs to be nipped in the bud.
We need to strive to eliminate that at all costs. Force them, if necessary, to conform to the mold, eliminating the exceptional ones and having a predictable mediocre product. They will also stack into a round container easily and take up less shelf space. Pringles.

I wonder how much trouble those tennis ball cannons I used to build would get me into today. I not only built and shot the things, but I would do it on the school play ground in the evening, weekend and all summer long. I also would build them for friends, and we would shoot them at each other while we played.

LOL! I saw that coming but it was still a good belly laugh. But it is so sad that our kids cant conduct chemistry experiments in the back yard and our .gov crowd can send weapons into foreign countries to further their anti-gun policies. ???

If you are not careful and don't start treating me with a little respect I will never share the building plans with you ;)
