Title: Wilson Combat 1911 Magazines ?
Post by: billt on October 11, 2011, 04:14:59 PM
Who here shoots Wilson Combat Magazines in their 1911's? I ask because I've heard nothing but good about them. I picked up 2 of them at Cabela's a while ago on my weekly trek there. They were expensive, ($39.95 each). Midway had them cheaper, ($34.00), but by the time you pay shipping it's pretty much tit for tat. I'm going to try them in my 2 new Springfields. I got the ETM 500, (Elite Tactical Magazine). They have a 8 round capacity with the small, standard bump pad.

A while back I bought 2 Kimber Stainless 8 round magazines. They were $10.00 cheaper and come with 3 different thickness bump pads. They run good, but you can tell how much smoother the Wilson followers depress. They are very uniform. I don't mind paying good money for good mags because they'll make or break your weapon from a reliability standpoint. I just wondered if any of you guys shoot them, and how they have held up for you?

I replaced all my 1911 Colt magazines with the Wilson 8 rounders,They always work. I have never had any FTF occur while using them.Watch Midways ads, they have had them on overstock before for around $21.00 plus shipping.

You're echoing pretty much what I've been hearing. Thanks for the heads up on Midway. I'll keep an eye opened.

I use Wilson 47D's in all my 1911s.

Dillon has them for $32.95 at their store on Bell rd. Occationally they have them on sale too.

I have four of the ETM's myself.  They've worked flawlessly in my Para single stack as have the stock Para mags that came with the gun.

I bought them from my SIL for about 10 bucks each as his S&W 1911 wasn't working with any magazine so he sold the gun and had no use for the mags.

I was around to see the first prototypes of the Wilson's.  They were only 7 rounders then.  I bought some when they became available and used them with no problems.  Shortly thereafter Wilson developed the 8 rounder and sold conversion units to make the 7rd hold 8.  Bought some and they worked great.  Still have and use all of them!  I guess they are OK and I got my money's worth.  LOL

Can't beat the 47Ds. Up until a few years ago, they would send you replacement mag springs for free.  If you're on a budget, the McCormic Power Mags are a great deal for the money.  NighHawk Custom has had some good deals on followers and springs to keep the McCormics running if you prefer the plastic followers.

My S&W 1911 loves and adores, without any regard to ammo, the P47D 8rd. mags. Yes, the prices kinda suck,...but they are the ones I trust.

FWIW. I know there are other very good quality mags, but I stuck with the one's that my 1911 runs the best with.

I found our local dealer had a recent sale on them for $28.99. ($30.00) each, or 4 for $100.

P.S. make sure to test drive the right ones,....I believe they have a P47DX, that would not work in my S&W, but just double check the compatibility with your new "pair" of .45's.... ::)

P.S.S. you still suck,.... ;)

Love the standard Wilson 8-rounders. I have some that are pushing 20 years and still function flawlessly. I actually had a couple from back when they had the roller-ball in the followers (do they still make those ? ).

I use the 47OX 7 rounders in my Wilson CQB Compact.

I got a "Loaded Coupon" with each pistol that allows you to purchase Springfield accessories at reduced prices. They have Springfield magazines avaliable for $12.00 each, (limit 10). I'm going to grab some. How bad can they be?

I pretty much run all Wilson mags myself. I usually buy from Topgun Supply their regular price is always under $30. They've run specials for under $25. I do still have quite a few McCormick mags, Novak/ACT mags, and a couple Checkmates and a couple Mec-Gars. All my 1911's have a wilson in them and my carry mag pouches have wilson mags too. The others all work fine and I use them at the range but when it comes to defensive carry I only trust the Wilsons or the ACT/Novak mags. Incidentally a lot of people like the Kimber Tac-Mags, I have no problem selling them. Whenever I buy another Kimber the first thing I do is get rid of the Kimber mags. Some people swear by them but I've had a lot of problems in the past. To me they seem like the spring isn't strong enough, I'm not sure if they aren't tuned to hotter ammo or what the issue is but I get FTF's with them and it seems they aren't advancing the ammo up quickly enough.

No Don, the original Wilsons for the full size 1911 were only 7 rounders!  The 8 rounders and conversion units came a short time later.
This was 25+ years ago...closer to 30!

I sent off for 10 of the Springfield Armory blued 7 round magazines with the "Loaded" coupon that came with my pistols. They arrived last Friday. They came well packaged in 2 zip lock plastic bags with 5 magazines in each. The magazines were perfect with not a mark on them, all lightly coated with oil.

I sent for them COD. Be aware, (I was not), that UPS does not accept cash any longer for COD deliveries. I know that sounds silly because COD stands for Cash On Delivery. They came at about 9:30 AM and wouldn't take the money, so Melanie had to go to the bank and get a money order made out to Springfield. He returned around 5:00 PM that same afternoon and all was well. With shipping and COD charges everything came to $141.00, or about $14.10 for each magazine. Not a super deal, but not bad.

I still use half a dozen Wilson/Rogers bodies with Devel followers and brass BAT butt pads from the middle 80's... for 10 rounders the Ed Brown modified (over insertions stop) Metalform with the full contact domed stainless follower

I shoot action pistol with my Kimber and use stainless Wilsons and Chip McCormicks. The McCormick follower is steel and seems more durable than the black plastic wilson follower that feels flimsy when out of the tube. Both work great and are easy to clean. I have 2 Kimbers that I got with the gun and they are OK but I don't use them in competition as they don't feel as reliable. Midway frequently has them on sale.
