Wilson Combat 1911 Magazines ?
« on: October 11, 2011, 04:14:59 PM »
Who here shoots Wilson Combat Magazines in their 1911's? I ask because I've heard nothing but good about them. I picked up 2 of them at Cabela's a while ago on my weekly trek there. They were expensive, ($39.95 each). Midway had them cheaper, ($34.00), but by the time you pay shipping it's pretty much tit for tat. I'm going to try them in my 2 new Springfields. I got the ETM 500, (Elite Tactical Magazine). They have a 8 round capacity with the small, standard bump pad.

A while back I bought 2 Kimber Stainless 8 round magazines. They were $10.00 cheaper and come with 3 different thickness bump pads. They run good, but you can tell how much smoother the Wilson followers depress. They are very uniform. I don't mind paying good money for good mags because they'll make or break your weapon from a reliability standpoint. I just wondered if any of you guys shoot them, and how they have held up for you?

I replaced all my 1911 Colt magazines with the Wilson 8 rounders,They always work. I have never had any FTF occur while using them.Watch Midways ads, they have had them on overstock before for around $21.00 plus shipping.

You're echoing pretty much what I've been hearing. Thanks for the heads up on Midway. I'll keep an eye opened.

I use Wilson 47D's in all my 1911s.

Dillon has them for $32.95 at their store on Bell rd. Occationally they have them on sale too.

I have four of the ETM's myself.  They've worked flawlessly in my Para single stack as have the stock Para mags that came with the gun.

I bought them from my SIL for about 10 bucks each as his S&W 1911 wasn't working with any magazine so he sold the gun and had no use for the mags.

I was around to see the first prototypes of the Wilson's.  They were only 7 rounders then.  I bought some when they became available and used them with no problems.  Shortly thereafter Wilson developed the 8 rounder and sold conversion units to make the 7rd hold 8.  Bought some and they worked great.  Still have and use all of them!  I guess they are OK and I got my money's worth.  LOL

Can't beat the 47Ds. Up until a few years ago, they would send you replacement mag springs for free.  If you're on a budget, the McCormic Power Mags are a great deal for the money.  NighHawk Custom has had some good deals on followers and springs to keep the McCormics running if you prefer the plastic followers.

My S&W 1911 loves and adores, without any regard to ammo, the P47D 8rd. mags. Yes, the prices kinda suck,...but they are the ones I trust.

FWIW. I know there are other very good quality mags, but I stuck with the one's that my 1911 runs the best with.

I found our local dealer had a recent sale on them for $28.99. ($30.00) each, or 4 for $100.

P.S. make sure to test drive the right ones,....I believe they have a P47DX, that would not work in my S&W, but just double check the compatibility with your new "pair" of .45's.... ::)

P.S.S. you still suck,.... ;)

Love the standard Wilson 8-rounders. I have some that are pushing 20 years and still function flawlessly. I actually had a couple from back when they had the roller-ball in the followers (do they still make those ? ).

I use the 47OX 7 rounders in my Wilson CQB Compact.
