So a coworker of mine has been shooting Steel Challenge with his 9mm XD at our local range for the last year, about 10K rounds, and the extractor broke. He searched all over to find a replacement and finally called Springfield to get one directly, they said NO! Huh? ??? He has to send his pistol back to them to get it replaced. Anyone else had that problem? I have an XDM 45 and will hopefully be putting more rounds downrange this next year and its my only handgun so if it breaks am I SOL until they fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a good excuse to get another gun. Just in case. ;)

Could always tell Springfield that M&P's or the "G" guns will be on sale this holiday season....Sigs are nice too,.... ::)
If they pay the freight, I guess you have to send it back..I've heard there is a special XD extractor removal tool needed, and one can risk damage to the extractor if not using it.
Too bad they just can't send the darn part... :-\

Just to be a jerk I will point out that isn't an issue with a 1911.

Or a Glock ;D ;D ;D

Yeah ;D ;D I was gonna say, " Just go to Lone Wolf and you can buy all the parts you need for the whole gun....oh, wait. You didn't get a Glock." ;D ;D
Tom doesn't have a corner on the Jerk label. ;D ;D

Now which one? I was leaning toward the Springfield Rangemaster, the new Ruger seems to be getting some pretty good reviews as well....
Or I can take the Cylinder & Slide course and build my own for 4 times the money...

No extractor (#36 on the blueprint) listed but thanks for the link.

I dont have a problem sending my gun to the factory for repair. Maybe its just me but I have more than one firearm on hand just in case.
-
If gun G shoots as well as gun X but I can fix anything short of a KABOOM on gun G in my living room, I'll buy gun G.
-
In less than 30 seconds, you can replace the extractor on the "G" gun.
"Get a Glock."

It is odd that Springfield doesn't have much aftermarket support.

"Get a Glock."
I've thought about it.... but not until they come out with a .45 single stack subcompact or I break down and buy a 19.
-
They do have a single stack 45. The G36.
'Course like other baby Glocks - a little on the thick side, it may not fit your criteria for "subcompact".

Actually that is the one I was thinking of, but I meant a single stack 9mm. I need to get a hold of a 36 and try it out.

9mm I think you're outta luck. A slim G26 would be SWEET.
The 36 I shot was very similar to my 27 as far as recoil but I haven't shot it that much....neither has it's owner. He and I bought SIG 226s about the same time - years and years ago. His still has black outside on top of the chamber, mine looks like chrome. :P

I guess the Glock wins the day in that department..... :'( .....I just tried it on my 1911 and it took me almost a minute. :(

I understand the extractor on the Ruger SR1911 is so heavy duty it will pull 2 Greeks apart. ;D

This has always been my biggest peeve with the Springfield XD. The fact they won't sell parts to the general public, forcing you to send in the gun for even the simplest of repairs. With Glock you can get any of the 34 total parts in the gun, from literally dozens of vendors out there in gun land. With the XD it's no can do. I actually know a couple of guys at my local club who have 2 of them just for this reason. They shoot steel and IDPA regularly, and can't afford to have a gun down for any length of time.
With 2 if one goes down they can send it in and still have another to shoot with. Something about that just doesn't seem right. I like Springfield, but this is one area they really need to take another look at. Especially with so many XD's out there.

That is what I was getting to in my original post.

I wonder why they don't want anyone working on their pistols? It has worked out fine for Glock....
