Title: More foolishness from the ATF
Post by: CJS3 on November 19, 2011, 11:28:05 AM
Not content with their current F&F stupidity, we now get another ATF ruling to make us safer;

Next they'll start requiring a permit for 20oz water bottles and a roll of duct tape. ::)

How is this any more senseless than the Clinton era decision to put "taggants" in fertilizer ?

That actually did make a little sense. First of all, I don't know if they are really there, or if they work or not. That's kind of the point. It would make me a bit more leery of buying a bulk order of fertilizer to make the amfo. That's if it were me. If I were either a complete idiot or a trained terrorist, I'd either know whether it were an issue or have never heard of them. No effect either way. As far as the moderately dangerous redneck goes, it might complicate the plan. Of course, I thought they reformulated the amount of nitrate used so the stuff didn't blow up like it used to. I haven't needed to remove a stump in a while so I haven't followed the issue too closely. ;)

The original article is in the Gun Rights Examiner.  No I'm not casting any dispersions on those folks, I just like to verify things before I go posting them.  This is just stupid enough to be a hoax.

Can any one point me to another source?   I've search the ATF web page and don't see anything.

To expand a little...
How does that prevent it from being made into a bomb?  If a terrorist blows up a bomb they usually will tell you they did it.  Just like cops don't prevent crime they document it after the fact.  So in reality this just makes ATF's job easier?  Whatever... ::)

You are 100% correct, it doesn't stop them from making the bomb,It just makes it easier to follow up on where the materials were bought.

Or go back and try to get the deposit for the now shredded truck.  ::)

Investigators determined that the vehicle had been rented by Mohammad Salameh, one of Yousef's co-conspirators.[21] Salameh had reported the van stolen, and when he returned on March 4, 1993, to get his deposit back, authorities arrested him.[22]

Not quite dumb enough to be a suicide bomber, but close. ::)

PS I don't want to sound unfair to muslims. Mcveigh was pulled over with a gun in his lap. He didn't shoot the cop and drive off. Why? Did he think it might get him in more trouble than the dozens of counts of murder? It must be something in the fertilizer fumes that causes brain damage.

Or it's possible that like he said in interviews, He did not know they had gotten a description of his car, he did not know they would connect him to it.

He tied a T shirt over his licence plate. Did he think this would not draw attention on that day? He died of stupidity and cowardice. I mean honestly, what was the fool thinking? Oops, I guess I answered my own question with the whole thinking thing. ;)
