Its midnight give or take. The Iowa results show Romney and Santorum tied at 24.6% and Paul coming in third at a little less than 22%. Paul needed a convincing win. He didn't get it, game over. What is interesting, and frustrating for me, is that the religious right seems to have abandonded Perry and rallied behind Santorum, my least favorite candidate. I was ready to write the guy off a couple of weeks ago. Now,if he doesn't get humiliated in NH, and can come in at least second in SC, he's still in the hunt. That said, Iowa gave Huckabee the nod in 2008, and that went nowhere. But if Santorum can pull support in SC and carry that into the Bible Belt on Super Tuesday? Well, it could be interesting. Gingrich was at something like 13%. That's not surprising in a caucus state, but he damn well better show something in NH or he has problems. Its been an interesting night.

The FQ endorsement: Need to check this guy out a little closer ;)
Seriously FQ: This is one caucus. It is a long road, and if Ron Paul is "roadkill" over this he wasn't seriously in this to begin with.

I agree with m58, this is far from over but as to Santorum, he's a lawyer and a lifelong politician who's never held a real job in his life. He probably won't carry this too far.
Time will tell, I didn't think ODamna could beat Hitlery either!
-
Paul ?
One caucus is not the end of the world.
My guess for NH ?
Romney #1, Paul or Newt #2 #3 could be a surprise, Huntsman has been very active here.
The nomination ?
My bet is Romney, he's the darling of both the media and the RNC, he's gotten endorsements from everybody from jimma carter to Ann Coulter.
My opinion is he's "Same old, same old" POS.
-
The SC primary has been the deciding state historically. If you go by history, the guy who wins there will get the nod. We'll see!
-
Actually Tim, I believe you will find that Dixville Notch NH calls it correctly most of the time.
-
I really don't care what history or the experts say. When the time comes I will cast my vote for the one I agree with the most.
-
Does Minnesota have a primary ?
That's when it's imperative to support the guy you will do the best job.
In the general election it's just a matter of keeping out the Dems.
-
Precinct caucus on February 7th, and primary election on August 14th.

Living here it's a moot point though!

Based on your other posts, I thought Bachmann was your least favorite candidate? Or was it Romney? Maybe Newt? Seems to change with every day.
Paul coming in 3rd is not good for him, especially since Santorum came out of nowhere and took 2nd. But the others are right, this is only 1 caucus, and not a particularly telling one. It's just publicity for the winners.

Turned on the TV as dinner time has arrived. WGN is on, and a self important talking head is ranting money, money, money, electability, electability, electability ... What core values and beliefs translate into electability? And, based on reports from past elections money translates to ads, posters, yard signs, etc., and each yard sign is worth x votes. Any nation that elects officials based on yard signs and bumper stickers deserves what they get, and they deserve to be named France or Greece >:(

Tee hee. Last night was a victory for Ron Paul, despite establishment shenanigans intended to thwart him. He got the same amount of delegates as Romney and Santorum. One thing last night tells us is that 75% of Iowans don't want Romney. I believe Santorum didn't even get on all the ballots, putting him in the same boat with fellow chickenhawk Newt. Never underestimate the abject stupidity of the 501(c)(3) corporate religious brainwashing victims when it comes to voting.
Take a look at the clip of the soldier that was cut off by CNN's "technical difficulties". http://ronpaulflix.com/2012/01/soldier-cut-off-by-cnn-invited-to-speak-by-ron-paul-jan-3-2012/
Also, here is a great clip from earlier this morning:

I think most of what Mauler posts about Paul is a load crap.
But no matter who you support you have to agree with the above quote.

There are nearly 2 million registered voters in Iowa! Maulers statement means nothing!
It's shameful that only 122K of the nearly 2 million voters turn out considering they can change parties during the caucus evolution!
-
Mike Huckabee won the Iowa caucus (handily) in 2008......and we see how that turned out......still a little early yet, yes?
-
According to maulers mathematics, 80% don't want Ron Paul either!

Romney picked up a heavyweight endorsement today. That's right, the 2008 loser threw his less-than-formidable weight behind Romney.
I'm still writing in Bogan in the general election.

If Bogan gets into the White House (elected into) can he then say he wants to kill the President ::)

Where else could I get that much rope ;D
I started a thread about it but I met Newt today and was VERY favorably impressed.

I'm guessing it's because somebody at CNN knew what the Cpl didn't--namely, that you can't campaign for somebody while in uniform.

That's free advertizing, gets there face in the public and gives the DWTS crowd a face to go with a name. A "proven winner" no matter where the win comes from is still a win and gets support. It all depends on who they heard won last.

Santorum completely overlooks the fact that SS would never have been in trouble if Johnson and his Dem congress had not stolen the money from it.

BRENTWOOD, N.H. — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum committed one of the gravest sins in Republican politics on Wednesday evening by knocking the revered former President Ronald Reagan at a packed town hall meeting.
While addressing America’s entitlement crisis at his first New Hampshire event since his stunning near-victory in the Iowa caucuses on Tuesday, Santorum said Reagan contributed to the entitlement crisis by pushing Social Security’s sustainability issues down the road instead of dealing with them head-on in the 1983 bipartisan deal to fix Social Security.
“If Rick Santorum gets elected and we do what I said that we need to do, which is to deal with the entitlement programs now, not 10 to 20 years from now,” Santorum said.
“You’ll know — unlike Ronald Reagan who maybe was a better politician than me — you’ll know that it was Rick Santorum that worked together and got the American public to gather together to fix this problem. Why? Because it is our problem.”
Santorum was walking the audience through what he called the “ancient days of yesteryear” in a interminable and incredibly detailed response to a questioner. He explained that in the 1983 deal Reagan brokered with Democratic Speaker of the House Tip O’Neil to fix Social Security, the retirement age was moved back to 67, but that change wasn’t slated to be enacted until the politicians responsible were out of office.
“This was the brilliance of the politicians that did this,” Santorum said sarcastically.
“They were absolutely brilliant. They passed a bill that didn’t take effect for 20 years so nobody blames them. It was brilliant. They increased the Social Security age by two years back in 1983 and it didn’t start phasing in, it doesn’t fully phase in for almost 40 years. And so Ronald Reagan did that. Most people have no idea — no one associates Ronald Reagan with raising the retirement age. Why? Because all of the people it affected were nowhere near retirement and they didn’t know about it.”

I'm not sure Santorum could win, but I think that in the General, he would do at least as well as Romney would, because I don't think Romney could beat Obama..
I do know that Paul never intended to win. As always, he just wants to drive the discussion. It costs him nothing to do what he's doing. It's a win-win for Paul.. I don't think that 90% of his followers realize that he doesn't want to be President.. Further, I don't think that 10% of paul supporters will pull the lever for ANY GOP candidate. I think 50% goes to Obama and the other 50% gets a virulent, mutated strain of Bush Derangement Disorder that they'll never fully recover from..

Santorum isn't getting much traction here in NH.
Perry is a complete unknown up here.
NH will be between Romney, Paul, Gingrich, and Huntsmen, Even "Vermin Supreme" has gotten more exposure than Perry or Santorum.
-
I caught a glimpse of this guy on CSPAN an hour or so ago, and while I didn't have the volume on and I haven't watched the link, I'd support this guy over BO, even to the point of switching party affiliation to do so, over BO... I bet the guy is better on undue union influence or (real) equal protection than BO.. Pretty sturdy looking boot.. I wonder if he's wearing the other one on his leg...

This is my issue with the media. I don't mean just mainstream either!
The media decides what information we will get, and how they present it determines how we will categorize it.
If you remove the editorial spin and the sound bite chosen for the purpose of the story I dare anyone to tell me what percentage of the information we receive truly represents all candidates on an equal and level playing field.
-
M58, I agree with you in general, but I have to point out that another issue is the candidates time investment.
Perry and Santorum have spent very little time or money on NH.
-
True - You must spend time in the state or community to get the time in the media. However, money spent should have nothing to do with media coverage. This is what the equal time legislation was all about.

Arnold Ziffel, Bobo The Clown, or even Vermin Supreme, after all gingivitis is really, really bad and must be stopped.,... ::).....They will have my vote if the nominee...

If he isn't here there is nothing to say about him.
There fore he doesn't deserve equal mention.

If he isn't there he can't show up in the sound bites or background shots. However, an ethical reporter will include the stance on all candidates on the ballot. If they choose to not answer the questions that is the candidate's fault, but if the reporter doesn't ask them it is the reporter's fault.
Being the "watch dog," which is the inflated self important title media likes isn't easy. They must do the work, or quit pretending.

At least Vermin Supreme is an honest politician
"A vote for me is a vote totally wasted."

Paul came in #2 in NH
I'm not sure but I think the 2 Santorum votes in Dixville Notch were the only ones he got.
