That could be the fate of the Remington Arms Company plant in Ilion, New York, the economic lifeblood of the small New York town lying halfway between Albany and Syracuse. The company's roots in the town go back nearly 200 years, since Eliphalet Remington, Jr. forged his first rifle barrel there. Today the company employs about 1,000 workers in a town with a population of just over 8,000. But the company has suggested, none too subtly, that it may move its Ilion plant to another state if Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state's lawmakers enact gun legislation now under consideration in Albany.
The same day Jackson's letter went out from Remington headquarters in Madison, North Carolina, Connecticut gun manufacturers held a press conference in Hartford to voice their opposition to similar legislation proposed in that state's General Assembly. Representatives of four Connecticut firms — Colt's Manufacturing Company, Marlin Firearms, O.F. Mossberg and Sons, and Sturm Ruger — and Smith & Wesson of Springfield, Massachusetts, gathered at the state capital, along with members of the National Shooting Sports Foundation in Newton, Connecticut, and the Connecticut Association of Firearms Retailers. Manufacturers, lawyers, and union and trade group representatives all took aim at Senate Bill 353, the microstamping mandate.
"This feel-good legislation will do more harm than good," said Carlton Chen, vice president and general counsel with Colt. "Let us not make a mistake, with the unintended consequences of driving businesses and jobs out of Connecticut."
But, but, it's for the chiiiiiiiiildren! ::)
I hope all gun manufactures refuse to sell to these states PDs if this crap passes.
-
Ruger has an advantage over the other companies in that a move would not effect their production, only business offices are in Conn. their manufacturing is located in NH and Az.
-
Remember, Bushmaster was slated to move to KY, right up until "Chucky Schumer" , made a Godfather deal for them to set up shop in NY.....
Which they did.
If the gun makers are that stupid (much as I like S&W, Remington, Kimber, Bushmaster, Winchester, etc,..) to want to continue production in North Eastern "Anti-Gun" states.,..Ruger ihas already moved a substantial mkt to AZ.
I say, they made the bed they are sleeping in....
and if BHO gets re-elected,.....please,.....the employees of these NE companies elected these politicians, if they can't see the forest through the trees,....come South....
For the record, Winchester 30-30's are now "Made In Japan",.....I'm sure the Duke would be proud,......
Typical Yankees, (no offense to those Yankee members here),...Force American Companies to seek a better growth environment elsewhere.
Than bit** about the lack of revenue,....
RE: Detroit,...

Crazy piece of legislation that some inventor got going, and the anti Second Amendment groups will not let die. Micro stamping will do nothing to prevent or solve crimes. Just like the idea that putting a spent case in a file is supposed to be a big crime stopper, this will be of no value.
Has anyone ever stopped to think what it takes to alter micro stamping within a firearm? Do you think any criminal is going to be walking around with a firearm that has working micro stamping?

Its called a revolver.....No brass leftovers,.. ::) Been around for a long time,....They simply don't (insert expletive) get it.

RE: Detroit,...
First off, NY isn't "New England", it wasn't even settled by the English.
Secondly, I continue to remind you that NH, Me, and Vt, have less restrictive gun laws than nearly any other state you want to name. NH and Me also had CC decades before Fla.
-
I'll concede NH (Sig), and Maine, however, Sen. Bernie Sanders admitted Socialist, and Sen. Patrick Leahy of VT? I don't know what kind of bi-polar nature VT folks have, a pretty pro-gun state, yet keep electing these asshat anti-gun folks.
Your correct, NY is not New England. Especially the far left states like Mass. RI, and CT. certainly are.
But somehow, all those Yankees retire, move, or spend the winter down here!!!! ;)
Florida would be a lot more Conservative if we didn't have all these Liberal transplants... :P
-
Western PA would love to welcome those companies. ;D
-
Anti gun and Second Amendment groups, and many in our very own government claim to be fighting gun violence. They are spending (wasting) billions of our money playing these games, and they are trying to force private industry to spend billions of dollars or slowly go out of business. However in all of this they are not addressing the true issue - VIOLENCE.
The issue is not the gun. The issue is violence.
The idea of attacking the gun to end gun violence is like trying to cure acne by studying the pock marks decades later, like trying to cure chicken pox by dealing with the scabs, and like trying to cure alcoholism by removing livers from drinkers. If you want to stop killing and danger to people you address the problem - The violent nature of human beings. Taking away a tool will never stop the act.

FIFY,
I also have to disagree about the Liberals, I only know of one person from up here that moved there and supports BO, and he's a Union member and convicted felon so he shouldn't be able to vote.
Need to look at your own, more or less, "native" population, such as the Haitians who have been living off the US tax payer for over 200 years.
-
I'd also remind you Floridians that your Governor just endorsed the re-election efforts of the socialist in the White House!
I had a CC license in CT in 1983! When did FL adopt concealed carry? I'm not defending the New England states liberal leanings but CT and MA for the most part are independents, not democrats. Since the early 90's with the exception of the current governors, we elect republican governors, pretty much the same with RI.

First they came for the guns,

Then they came for the (kitchen) knives.

Huh? ??? He's speaking at the GOP Convention...
Florida Gov Rick Scott also released this statement: "There is no question that Rick Santorum ran a hard fought campaign. I commend his passion and his willingness to put the best interest of our party and nation first. Mitt Romney will be our party's nominee and it is critical that all Republicans coalesce behind Governor Romney and focus on electing him as President so he can put the policies in place to create jobs, turn our economy around and get federal spending under control.

I think you meant FORMER Gov. Charlie Crist who is so much of waffling, wimpy RINO, the Rep. Party abandoned him. Hell, he makes Lindsey Graham look like a Reagan Conservative. ::)
FL, prior to 85 was an open carry state, when the outcry was deafening when they ended OC, Marion Hammer fmr. FL Rep. and a Big Shot at the NRA, fought for CC and got it in 1987.

I think Marion Hammer's fight for CCW started before she became a Rep to carry it on. She was indeed a "big shot" with NRA, she was the President of it for at least one term, maybe more.
To carry on from Tim's comment, I got my first carry permit in Me. when I got out of the Marines in '80 . I ran into one of the local cops at the local store, once I told him I wanted an application, next time I filled it out while he was gabbing with my Dad and the store owner, next time I saw him he said "I've been carrying this to give it to you." that was only a couple days later.
My Dad got his NH permit in the early 70's.

The most civilized country is Switzerland, if you are to old or feeble to qualify for a free automatic weapon or anti tank weapon they will give you a really good price on one.
They have the lowest crime rate in Europe, funny how that works.

The debate about who has better gun laws notwithstanding. Yall are still Yankees. ;) ;D

Mike, you're trying to argue with liberals using reason and logic. What the hell are you thinking? ;D

I'm a Michigander....a northerner but technically not a Yankee! I've lived trapped here in the New England for thirty years now. I'll probably never escape since my wife and daughter will never leave. One of my brothers lives out here as well...I've come to terms with it!

You will not want to stop any where near the Seacoast.
They are heavily liberal down there.

I'm thinking with my skiing background, I can live somewhere in the mountains and work a bit in that industry when I decide to call it quits here. If I can parlay a bit of work, I might be able to stop in ten or twelve years. It's all about the health issues. Otherwise, I'll work 'till I max out my SS and not a moment more! I won't be wealthy but I won't be starving either... I'm just trying to avoid humanity for the most part...human beings are far too unpredictable!
:D

When I was a former ski bum, and couldn't afford to "Go West",.....Attitash, NH, and Killington, VT...were the best on the East Coast. Winterplace, WV, when I was just wanting to ski, and had little money.
During my college days, I attended Appalachian State Univ. in Boone, NC, they had "teaser ice hills" but occasionally had decent snow at Sugar Mt. and Hawksnest. But geez they were short runs. ::)
Sorry, thread drift,...... :P
Sounds like a plan Timothy. Nothing wrong with that....I was always partial to the "ski bunnies",..... ;)

Should have tried Jay Peak, VT. http://www.jaypeakresort.com/
It's about 5 miles from Canada and gets lake effect snow off of Lake Champlain. Some of the best snow I've ever skied besides Park City, UT which is some of the best snow in the US! Oh, to be young again....
;D
Bunnies were my specialty...

That isn't going to get frosting out of his ears. ;D
You'll spend 2 years teaching him to walk and talk and the rest of his life telling him to sit down and shut up. ;D
PS, Just so you know, when you start teaching him to pee standing up they make "toilet targets" little colored tissue things you throw in the bowl for him to aim at. ;D

A box of Cherrios is probably cheaper in the long run. Plus you can eat the ones that he misses. ;D
