Title: Mrs. FBG saw the 'new' milsurp
Post by: fatbaldguy on November 03, 2012, 06:03:43 PM
CZ-83 this afternoon.  She is not particularly pleased.  I'm having cold shoulder, hot tongue, and grumble soup for supper.

It's worth it! ;D

Ooooooops  ;D

As a niece of mine posted on FB today, two scoops of grumpy in a bowl of bitchy.

You'll live and she'll survive, but it may cost you a few special date nights.  Sounds like a win win in the long run  ;)

I hear they're doing an NCIS marathon tonight. You, Gibbs, Ziva, the couch and that CZ. Seems like a good deal to me. Gee, wonder why I'm single? ;D

I gather that NCIS is television? (google says it is)  I don't watch it.  I may have to take her to a 'chick flick' or two though.  I could use the nap time. ::)

My wife has never complained about things I have bought.  Then again, I don't ask about what she buys.

And yet, I can go out to a bar, come in whenever I want, not worry about dishes in the sink and all the rest of it. Marital bliss is great if you can stick it out. You seem to be one of them. Yet, ask the divorced guys if they'd want to be in my shoes (and no fair asking TAB, as he has the hot doctor wife). ;D

I don't even own a TV but when NCIS is on at the local coffee shop I stick around to watch it.

I saw a graph earlier that showed if you watch "Fox" and "NCIS" you will vote for Romney, if you watch "MSMBC" and "30 Rock" you will vote for Obama, and every body watches "CSI".

The missus has a TV.  I quit watching years ago.  I prefer radio, and not talk radio either.  A local station plays some indie rock, modern folk, local bands,  very eclectic stuff.  Right now it is a three hour bluegrass program.  Since I can see again after the cataract surgery, I'll start reading again too.

Never watched a single episode of CSI!

NCIS, every one except it's lame cousin NCIS, LA does nothing for me...I watch less and less regular TV.

The only one I've seen is the original, with Gibbs and Ziva.
I'll change plans and hang around for it if it's on.
I watched the whole first 3 or 4 seasons of CSI, it was worth it then, I don't know about now.
Law and Order is another good one.
Just finished reading Richard Marcinko's "Rogue Warrior" series, currently on book 3 of WEB Griffin's "Presidential Agent" series.

No, I can safely say that I have truly never pondered that, not in any way, shape or form.   8)

Done shot stuff.  She don't want to cuddle, and neither do I.  'Specially with her.  And, I refuse to watch television!  :-X

Oh, BTW, relax.  ;D :-* Jacked/drifted threads make for the best reading.

We all must be bored silly. Okay, FBG, what's so special about your CZ? I would like to know, because I'm thinking of buying one as a Christmas gift for my wife. It would complement the bench saw I bought her last year!

Well, Mr lobo,

The CZ83 is a .380,  looks just like the 82 9mm Mak, rounded trigger guard and all.  Shoots very sweet.  Metal is smooth and clean, finish is probably 85-90%, but that doesn't matter as I will have it refinished.  New wood grips on order already.  A little snappy on recoil, perhaps an 16 or 18 pound recoil spring is in order.

Got it as a carry piece for myself.  Mrs is pretty livid right now cause I didn't 'consult' her about the purchase.  Fits her hand very well, though with a stronger recoil spring, she might not be able to rack the slide.

Nice and compact, not much bigger than my hand, but still fills the hand nicely.

Last month the wife was out in the living room watching TV and I was trying to sleep when I remembered I hadn't chambered a round after letting my daughter show her boyfriend the gun she shoots in USPSA (I cleared it and then she checked for herself  ;) ).  Well the distinct sound of a round being chambered caught my wife's ear and she came charging in through the bathroom's pocket door after throwing on the light (her reason will be clear in a second) and asked me if I had just "cocked" my gun... WFT?!? HUH?  No... a few more attempts at communication were attempted before I realized what happened.  She heard the gun chambering a round and thought I was getting ready to do someone harm and the only person she could think of was her, which is why she didn't come straight into the bedroom, and was coming to face danger head on....
 :-X
LOL! Its funny looking back on it but I had a hell of time falling a sleep that night.

And another thing for Mr. lobo, you had oughta get that CZ-83 right quick.  CZ has announced the models discontinued in 2013, and the 83 is among them. Tain't many new ones out there now.

fatbaldguy,

The CZ sounds sweet indeed, but wonder if wifey can handle the recoil. She is of petite build. But will certainly look for one locally. After all, it could turn out just like the bench saw (which she refuses to use, but suggests I wear it in an uncomfortable manner!). Glad you found yours. We have a Silverado gun show coming here next weekend and I'll just have to wander over and take a look around. Might be VERY crowded however, if the election goes the wrong way. Any advice on buying at a gun show would be appreciated as I normally don't go that route (only been to two)?

Recoil of a modern .380 is minimal at best.  Shouldn't be a problem for a woman or girl if they have some experience.  If they're new to shooting, I'd suggest starting them off with a .22 lr and work up to the larger calibers.

My daughter started with 9mm and never had any issues but not everyone is the same.  Today, she'll shoot her 9mm Sig, her fellas, P229 in 40 S&W and even handled my 1911.  The more they shoot, the more comfortable they feel and the better their grip is on the gun.  Proper technique can further mitigate the "felt recoil" of any gun.

Definitely go with the .380.
9MM Mak can be a bit snappy.

That's the same show they did here this weekend.  I've NEVER been that impressed with it.  The one in Upper Marlboro is two tables of rifles, a table of reloading stuff, and fifty tables of crap.  Occassionaly there is a table or two worth looking at, but I'm not in the market for Class 3 stuff or repro knives from the Civil War.
The one at the Dulles Expo Center is MUCH better, but being in VA you can't buy pistols.  That one has multiple tables of just about everything.

Should be able to if you give the dealer a copy of your local FFL's license you pay him, he ships to your FFL .
Local FFL handles NICS and paperwork.
Same as buying online.

I missed the last Nations Gun Show at Dulles (granddaughter's 1st birthday) and have heard that it is the one to go to. So, I'll have to wait until the next one rolls in. The Silverado comes to nearby Frederick. I think the problem is, in Maryland, our laws are so restrictive that it may discourage both sellers and buyers from attending. I think Tom is right, a copy of the FFL license from my local Gunrunners will allow me to purchase a pistol in VA as long as it is legal in MD. Of course I might find one at a yard sale...under the table. There's always a grandma willing to part with "one of those darned things my husband collected and never used"! Thanks for the advice folks.

Smoking hot, but somebody needs to teach her how to hold a handgun.  You could drive a truck between her hand and the beavertail on her Sig.  My wife regularly informs me that Ziva can't hear me yelling at the TV.  Guess I'll just need to yell a little louder.  ;D

That may be true, but every time I've asked about it, not at a show, they say it isn't possible.  The shop near the Expo Center had a 228 and a stack of mags for $500 that I had the cash in hand and they said "sorry".

If your state doesn't allow online purchase it wouldn't work.
You would need to give the seller the copy of your FFL's license when you give him the money the same as sending it with your check.

Yeah but they skipped the part where she pees her pants in reaction to the adrenaline dump afterwards. No shakes either!

The late "director Sheppard" kicked some but too, at least in her last episode.
