But that doesn't mean the next four years are going to be easy, or that coming out of that will be easy ...

Just keep breathing. Maybe, we can get by with more political stalemate.

I weep for my late nation.
She seemed so vibrant when I went off to war in my youth...
Many of us tried to sound the warning to her that smoking all that gimmesum was going to lead to a fatal cancer...
And now she has died.

Laura Ingram said it the best. "If the Republicans can't beat this guy in November, they might as well fold up their tent." They can't beat him, or anyone else like him, because there isn't enough of an electorate left who wants self reliance over big government handouts. In 4 years it will be worse because you'll have more minorities voting. Each year the white middle class is losing votes.
Spare me how they, (the Republicans), have all of these "young rising stars" like Rubio, Ryan, and all the rest. It isn't going to matter because the majority proved last night they don't want what their selling. It doesn't matter how pretty or dynamic the messenger is. In the next 4 years the Congress will be passed off as the bad guys. Their approval rating will always be substantially LOWER than Hussein's. Obama will blame them for anything and everything. His supporters will buy into all of it.
The have nots hate Republicans. And the true fact of the matter is you have more have nots supporting liberal democrats, than you have self reliant Republicans who want to return this nation to prosperity. The have nots care only about themselves and what they think Hussein will give them.
Look at the blue areas of the political map. All the red represents rural America. All of the inner cities are blue. That's where the population is increasing, and that is where the democratic voters are. Both now, and increasing even more in the future. This is what happens when you have a majority of stupid people that care about getting something for free, over electing someone that will try to set up an economy that will allow you to work for it. With the way this nation has dumbed down over the last 40 years, I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened sooner. It's irreversible.

We are beginning to sound just like the wimps we pretend to detest. I wonder what Custer was thinking at the Little Big Horn? Look at all those MFing Democrats? No, more likely, "if Reno shows up now I'm going to kick his ass"! We, gentlemen, have to figure out how we get our Republic back. Remember what Ben Franklin said: Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch; Liberty is an armed lamb contesting the vote. Like it or not, we are the lamb now.
-
When do I get my dictoral authority, and where is it located?
It's "located" in the White House and you don't have any. Obama will possess it for you. He'll keep you poor, unemployed, and dependant on him.

It isn't a question of "what you sound like". It's a question of reality. Look at the facts. In 4 years Hussein will:
1.) Slash the military to it's weakest position ever.
2.) Increase the already overwhelming national debt to over $20 TRILLION DOLLARS.
3.) Fully implement Obama care, and in the process destroy the best health care system on Earth, and make what's left all but unaffordable for everyone.
4.) Embrace muslims worldwide while letting Israel to twist in the wind by itself.
5.) Implement by Executive Order anything he can to dissolve what little freedom you have left.
6.) Do his best to shift the balance of power in the Supreme Court to the most freedom robbing, liberal position possible by reinterpreting the Constitution the way he sees it.
7.) Stifle business with so much regulation, the unemployment rate will continue to be the highest it's been for the last 4 years, and put as many people on government dependant programs as possible.
Those are the facts as we speak. This country had one chance left to change course. That chance is now history. The next election will be far worse. If there even is another election, or a country left to hold one.

billt,
The rural map of America is where all the oil is, the food is, the coal is, the solar panel and wind farms are. They depend on cheap labor to feed the free-loading masses in the cities. Why can't we in rural America begin to form a coalition with cheap labor, a power block, to force the cities to our will? The cities after all are more dependent upon us than we on them. Major corporations like big oil, corporate farms, etc., will join us. We need to break up the monopoly Democrats have on minorities, the major source of cheap labor. Offer those minorities a better deal and they will come over. Now, that's class warfare we can dig!

billt,
Reality is what you accept. We can sit here and complain about what is going to be done to us or we can figure out what we need to do to prevent those things from happening. Sitting and complaining have gotten us to where we are. We need to act to stem the tide. We are not helpless sheep. I, for one, did not spend 47 years of my life defending this nation to sit back and accept the reality you present. And, I'm betting you don't want to either. Why don't we become the squeaky wheel and show our strength? The Tea party flexed its muscle once and forced people to listen, then they lost their zeal for revolution, got complacent. The American spirit cannot be that fickle. First, groups like the NRA and GOA have to unite, put aside their petty differences and fiefdoms and all of us march on Washington, clog the streets, etc. and let them government boys know we aren't just a bunch of lobbyists spreading free money. There are other coalitions to be built to expand that movement to rural America, cheap labor, oil, coal, gas, food farms, dairy farms, cattle farms that can create inroads into the Democrat monopolies. If we wait 4 years to try another election gambit, that is just what the Democrats want. They will erode this country into a dependency state from which we will not recover. Let's start something now. Let's not wait and see. Dreaming? You bet I am. To do otherwise is to die.
In a past thread, some of you asked how we convert this forum into something more meaningful. Well, let's figure out how we spread our thoughts outside this forum to start a movement. Tom, FQ, m58...put our brains to work on something "meaningful".

Here is yet another fact we learned last night. It doesn't matter what your record is. Negative campaigning works. Even if it's all you have to run with. Just call your opponent a jag off long enough, and keep the free stuff coming, and your in. Hussein proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt. 24 hours ago I never would have believed it. I should have because I was born and raised in Chicago.
-
JRlobo has a point. I for one am so tired of hoping that a guy I really wasn't very interested in beat a guy I despise. And now I'm crestfallen because a bunch of retards (Oooohh I used the "R" word) and abunch of racists won the election over common sense. But I kinda done worrying about it- it takes too much energy.
I'll resist, I'll argue, I'll send some money when I have it. He doesn't have a rubber stamp on those justices- the conservatives can fight and torpedo the bastards if they have any skeletons in their closets. Our guys have to play as dirty as Axelrod. (David Goebbels).
I'm ready to talk about guns again.

I've heard of 2 ways to communicate online.
1) An E Mail account where you write your message and leave it as a draft others using the same account log on, read the draft, nothing ever actually gets sent anywhere.
2) Steganography, Is where they compress the information and insert it as one pixel in a picture. This however takes knowledge and special software.
Encryption is a waste of time, there is no commercial encryption system that cannot be read by the NSA or England's GCHQ.
Codes have some use, any one based on an alphanumeric key would be easily broken by the above agencies how ever the "book code" can only be reliably broken if the specific key is known.

Tom,
I wouldn't fear the black helicopter, just the men who are in it! I don't advocate armed insurrection, but I do advocate we act like men and not sheep. I don't want to accept that my republic is dead, but I can see that it can be if we do nothing. I am advocating we broaden our reach and bring in many of those who currently see us as the "enemy" that BHO says we are. If we succeed, then we won't need to consider others in this country as our "enemies". It's a movement we should advocate, not a revolution. As for choppers, they fly over my house regularly...en route to and from Camp David carrying you know who. Regular black ones, too. I'll never hear the special black one if it comes for me and can't think of a reason why it would.
-
The Republic has been dead ever since people accepted FDR's substitution of the word "Democracy" for the phrase "the Republic", like "clip", and "magazine", or "stupid" and "ignorant", they are not interchangeable.
As for the armed insurrection, if you can find me one other practical method for a minority to take charge of a brainwashed opposed majority I'm all for it.
On a side note this is the anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution. ( different calender, their style it was Oct, Western style it was Nov. 7 1917 )
-
My biggest fear is the 3 or 4 supreme court justices who could kick the bucket or retire at any second. If they do, it's bye-bye 2A.
Other than that, we bounced back from the mess that stupid peanut farmer left us in, we can bounce back from this commie. All we need is for someone like Ronnie to step up and take the bull by the nuts.

billt,
Reality is what you accept. We can sit here and complain about what is going to be done to us or we can figure out what we need to do to prevent those things from happening. Sitting and complaining have gotten us to where we are.
I accept the FACT that conservative Republicans can no longer win elections in this country because there aren't enough of them to defeat the majority of liberal democrats out there.
FACT: You have a nation on the economic brink of disaster.
FACT: You have a government that can not exist without borrowing and spending more than ONE TRILLION DOLLARS more than they take in every year from now until eternity.
FACT:You now are going to have a President for another 4 years who hates our military, along with Israel, while at the same time embraces muslims. He is also going to gut military spending down to the bone, making us all even more vulnerable.
FACT: You are going to have a shift in the power of the Supreme Court to the liberal left, and there is nothing that can realistically be done about it. This will continue to enhance the corrosion process of our freedoms for a lifetime to come.
Now you can sound like John Belushi in, "Animal House", when he gave his speech before they wrecked the Homecoming Parade, but it isn't going to matter. If the country wasn't fed up enough last night with this guy, what makes you think they will be in another 4 years? They like Obama. They want Obama. They will want another like him in 4 years. So where does that allow for any positive thinking? It doesn't. Conservatives in this country are like the Americans on Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania. We have nowhere to go but down. Instead of criticizing my attitude, tell me how, in realistic terms, you think this can be turned around politically, when you have an increasing electorate of idiots who don't care about anything in this country, except what the government can give them? My flag is too tattered to wave anymore.

That is simply a "Red Dawn" mentality that will never happen. You couldn't possibly form a "Coalition" to block anything the government could not take. If you're talking about going to guns over this, then all bets are off. The problem with another civil war is the government was on the winning side last time. Where do you think they'll be this time?
-
We need to break up the monopoly Democrats have on minorities, the major source of cheap labor. Offer those minorities a better deal and they will come over.
How can you offer them a "better deal"? The only way is to give them more stuff. We can't afford the stuff we're giving them now. Purchasing votes from idiots isn't the way to save this country. It's the main reason why it's being lost. We used to be a nation that was tolerant of minorities. Now, we've become a nation that is obsessed with them. That has been our downfall. You cannot reverse that by "buying" more of them.
-
When the anointed hussein made the coment that blacks and hispanics are back bone and base of our nation "these days"
Offer them WHAT jr?
WHAT is exactly better than MY money so they can stay home and tell me I need to pay MORE TO THEM so I can feel better about myself while I'm paying MY fair share?
Carrot - stick - welfare
-
Am I alone in hoping for economic collapse? I see it as the fastest and surest way to eliminate the cancer (welfare) and restore a constitutional republic. Because they only way I see to get back to personal respnsibility is to starve off the leaches. The people who take care of their own will make it. (It won't be easy, but we're a resilient bunch) and the people waiting for FEMA will perish.
On a side note: The Constitution was written so that only LANDOWNERS could vote. This ensured those voting had a stake in what was being decided. Why did that ever change?
-
I am fed up too but I see it a little different. We got successful by allowing our people to make things and selling them to the world and accumulate the wealth. the last 40 years we have outsourced most of the making things and have carried on with the good life by spending all that accumulated wealth (and then some!). The only way this changes is when the leaches in DC have spent all the money and all the credit they can claw out of us. Then they will announce that the problem is unsolvable and that they "never tried harder..." and go home.
We are finally committed to the fast track off the cliff. when we hit bottom then we MIGHT have a chance to kick this silly addiction. Until then my plan is to keep my powder dry and take care of my family. the real question will be if we can fend off the Islamists during this period of decay. VD Hansen does a great job of showing how Islamic expansion has historically been into civilizations that lost their moral compass and were in decay (like the current EU). They give lost people a set of clear simple rules with serious consequences that they can follow. All they have to give up is their liberty and humanity which isn't putting food on the table so why not.
The USA and Israel are still the two most innovative places in the world, so in my mind it is race between technology and barbarism. We are not going to "take the country back" as all there is once you take it back is same mess amplified with ungrateful blame frosting. Ignorance is curable, stupid is for life. George Washington had it right:
However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.
GEORGE WASHINGTON, Farewell Address, Sep. 17, 1796

Collapse will do just the opposite. It will install an all powerful, God like government that will severely punish you if you even so much as think about disobeying their mandates, whatever they may be. You don't want an economic collapse. Believe me there will be no, "getting it over with". It will just accelerate more of what you saw last night. As Hussein's buddy Rahm Emmanuel said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste!" A economic crisis will empower the government even further, and completely erode what little freedom we have left.

If we manage, by whatever means, to get back on track that is one of two major changes that would be required to the Constitution, no vote for any one not self supporting, (to many "affluent" people living in apartments for it to be based strictly on land ownership )
The other would be to make all offices contingent on "good moral character" like SCOTUS, no more "House ethics committee" if you are caught at some thing you go to jail for what you did plus more time for abuse of public trust.
Don't be surprised if I don't post much on this thread, many of you are stating what I'm thinking, so unless I see something I think was missed I really can't add anything.

m58,
As you know, we got the double whammy in Minnesota with the DFL winning back both the House & Senate. With Governor Duffus and a DFL legislature our State is in trouble - but things will be more fair. :'(

Tom was just putting a positive slant on it.
You get all the promised benefits until you have served your purpose and destroyed your country. After that, you are just another slave to do your masters bidding.
We cannot be sure what that bidding might be until your master's master issues his commands.
-
Here's a thought.......
Forget about the fact that our military will be gutted. BHO won't use them anyway.
How long before terroists REALLY ramp it up against us? Libya proved to them that there is no consequences for attacking us. So how long before the next 9-11?

I know. It was a feeble attempt at a joke during tough times.
I'm much younger than many on here (late 20's), and my cohort appears to be very split with not much in the middle. I know a lot of happy people today and probably about as many concerned/fearful people. I don't really know what to expect out of them. Granted, I'm born and raised Southern and spent a lot of time in academia with a lot of non-Southern imports. :-\
Edited:
I also got a brief insight into the voting philosophy of the older generation (older than yall ;) sample size of 1; so, use sparingly). I went to the poll with my parents and grandmother. She wanted to vote for the Democrat because that's whom you're supposed to vote for. I wonder how many are still stuck in 60's voting philosophy dispite 50 years and our current president. I doubt it is enough to make a large impact here, but there has to be more.
-
I'm not "fearful".
Furious, Irate, Disgusted, yup, all of those.
No room for fearful.

He has no need for a military. BHO believes all of his enemies are within. All of the money slashed from the boys in green will be given to Big Sis so she can keep the Homeland secure. From within.

I was living on, and believing in the difference. The difference I thought there was between a somewhat majority of us who thought we actually were living in a center right country. That difference does not exist. We are in fact a liberal, left leaning country. And we are now the minority. And it has gotten worse as last night proved.
We've been exposed to 4 years of this total fraud. Along with 4 years of reckless spending, mounting debt, a declining military, and 4 years straight of some of the highest unemployment in this countries history. None of it matters to the majority of voters in this nation. None of it. They proved this by reelecting him last night. All these people want is free stuff, period. And they are now the voting majority.
Obama will make it worse in the next 4 years. Obama Care will now be fully implemented. At a cost of trillions of dollars we do not have. Our national debt will soar to over $20 Trillion Dollars in the next 4 years. Our military will dissolve much like our infrastructure is, with no way of rebuilding it to what it once was. And today's voters approve of all of it. They not only approve of it, they want it. Along with marrying same sex partners, and smoking dope. Women want this government to finance their sex lives, and Obama will be happy to oblige them. All of them. It's all a meaningless bone he'll be more than happy to throw them. All with money that is becoming more worthless by the day. It doesn't matter to these people because they don't have any, and most never will. Because the government they so support will be doing it's best to keep them poor as dirt, and as dependant as a wandering, lost, puppy dog.
There is no way we can reverse this. It's taken too long to achieve this level of dependence, laziness, and irresponsibility. The democrats have been working this demographic model for decades. And they have finally succeeded. In many ways the Republicans have helped them with open borders, and allowing these give away programs to continue. They've done nothing about the schools in this country that are saturated with these liberal, socialist teachers who have been polluting the minds of these young people for decades. The democrats have succeeded in demonizing wealth and success as a bad thing, all the while promoting big government, along with this countries dependency on it, as what is good and right. "A fair shot" they call it.
Now when things collapse these same people will not try to take matters into their own hands, and provide for their own survival. They'll look to the government. Just like they did with Katrina, and like they're doing now with Sandy. "Where is FEMA!" they all chant? Nowhere. And what do the stupid Republicans like Chris Christie do? Hug the guy, and praise him when he shows up for a 5 minute visit. They help the guy get reelected. It's over. It's been coming for a long time and it's finally here. Enjoy what's left of it while it lasts, because it isn't going to.
-
What the GOP needs to do its take a step back and make the conscious decision of how bad they want to win in four years. If they can't play Chicago politics like Obama did and want to be "the nice guys" they will continue to loose. Romney started pulling punches on the economy, Bengazi, and F&F and it cost him. Like I said in another thread, you couldn't FIND a radio station in Northern VA/DC that even played an ad for a GOP candidate or issue, but every commercial break had at least one ad for Obama. So much for "battleground VA", not worth the money for an ad or two?
-
I share your thoughts, Bill...
The only 'hope' I can find is that the voting was not honest...but no one will make that determination.
It appears all the 'in system' means to save the country are exhausted.
-
I don't even think its really worth adding my two cents but...
Romney didn't lose because: people want a hand out, because women want their sex lives financed, he didn't lose because people hate the military or money, he didn't lose because college kids are stupid, it wasn't because the majority don't like guns, it had little to do with people not understanding the economy. Romney didn't lose because people wanted free healthcare (He started that first), and he didn't lose because the majority of American's are socialist, communist bastards that want to see our country fail.
He did lose because this is 2012 and women are not pets. They are living breathing equal people that should have every right a man has. I know abortion is a touchy subject and I am no fan but just like the technology of the atom bomb it is here to stay. The ridiculous dark aged comments about "Gods will" should get people exiled not elected. I hate to give it to Biden but the man said " I accept church rule personally, but not in public life." That is how every politician per the 1A should view "their" beliefs.
Same argument for Homosexuals. I don't care and neither does the rest of the free world, what your archaic book of contradiction says about the gays. They are people, equal people that have the right to pursue happiness and liberty. If the GOP ever wants to see another candidate have a shot at the top they best get with the times and dump the sharia law esq monologue that the religious right clings to.
College kids are not ignorant beer guzzling savages. They are vetted individuals with sharp minds and acute wit. They are the future of our republic and should be held to a high esteem not ridiculed and belittled. What a smart party platform, make fun of the educated. Derp derp...
If he or any republican wanted to win all they had to do was mention a few of these actual issues...
NDAA? Detention without trial or cause? Habeas Corpus? I didn't hear him mention that once in his campaign. Perhaps he wanted the same power? If he would have stood up in a debate and actually mentioned that he would have had a chance to win over a few people.
Project Gun walker??? Nope didn't talk about that. Didn't talk about Mexicans getting killed by the dozens because Obama wanted to get some support for gun control along the border. Really? How on earth can a word be said about the Hispanic vote when you don't even make mention of their loss at the hand of this man?
I'm sorry, I'm sure you guys don't want to hear any of that but its the truth. The GOP is a lost cause, its candidates are ignorant, racist, homophobic rich curmudgeons that would take this country backwards. The American people have moved on and so should the GOP. I voted my conscience and slept like a baby last night knowing the Libertarian Party had a great year and while the gains are small it shows progress.

Your political ignorance shows progress, nothing else. The only "progress" you people made was helping Obama get reelected. If that made you "sleep like a baby", you are a lost cause. You "gained" nothing except helping to put us on an accelerated path to the destruction of Liberty you people so love to claim you are for. It's why your party is forever stuck at 8% in the polls. And you people are trying to give Romney advise? Spare me.

From first hand experience, I pick up their stinking trash every Monday. College kids ARE INDEED, beer sotted savages. They live in squalor by their own choice. Staggering, hungover, to the curb at 2 O'clock in the afternoon still in their pajama's, because they 'forgot' it was trash day. There are some unlike this, they however, are the vast minority.

I will only say that if this country is going to rely on the shiftless, lazy, ignorant dumb ass college kids I've been working with the last ten or twenty years, this country is well and truly phuqued!

I could not agree more with both of you. In my company 4 out of 5 kids we hire don't make it a year in the trade. Either too lazy, or too stupid. Or else they just don't care. They come in arrogant, cocky, and refuse to listen. They scrap parts, crash machines, show up late or not at all. If their poor attendance doesn't get them fired, their poor on the job performance will. This has been getting nothing but worse as time goes on. I have every reason to believe it will not only continue, but get worse. And we wonder why manufacturing jobs are disappearing.

My experience has been the same :-\

"We need to hire 10 more workers in the next six months," Davis said.
His challenge: "I'll have to go through 500 applicants just to get the 10 that I need. And there's no guarantee that those 10 hires will work out."
This is happening in my trade all over the country. It isn't because these kids are so brilliant and easy to work with.

I feel like I should jump in and give some support to college kids; I'm only a couple months out of grad school myself. The problem is I really can't say much in support of the great majority of them. There are exceptions (I would like to say I'm one, but these aren't things that you can claim. In my opinion, they have to be shown and stated by others.), but they are few and far between. I know a lot of folks with the same degrees I have that I'm ashamed to say have them. Ultimately, their degrees are just as good as mine.
Most of the undergrads I've dealt with, lately, do not have "sharp minds and acute wit." They are "vetted" by how well they can take a standardized test (A textbook racket, but that's a different discussion.) and if they can pay. Granted, they can fail out if they try to.
I'll be generous and give most grad students I've dealt with "sharp minds and acute wit." The problem there is that does not mean they use them all the time, make the best decisions, or see the whole picture. Like I said earlier, I have a lot of very liberal friends that are thrilled at the results of the election. I admit to agreeing with several of the reasons they voted for him (science and natural resources, primarily), but I do not think the benefits of him being in office outweighed the risks/costs. For example, I and many of them work in a field where firearms are a key tool and a primary finacier (Pittman-Robertson). They don't think about him removing them from us and, therefore, eliminating that tool and income.
I'll agree with, JdePietro, about some of the downright stupid comments related to science, etc. made recently by Republican politicians hurting them. They were greatly mocked and ridiculed for them, and it did not help the party as a whole. However, I don't think they actually changed that many if any of the votes of people I know. They may have motivated people to vote though. For the record, I am a Christian, albeit a struggling one at the moment.
I've spent a lot of time in and around colleges and have formed an opinion on college attendance. Granted, it was a little before my time, and I'm working off of my understanding with a little generalization. A high school degree used to be an important thing to have in order to "advance" through many careers. A college degree was something very special and a really big plus in those same careers. Those that didn't finish high school and, especially, the majority who didn't go to college learned a trade. They were able to advance that trade and become prosperous with it. Now, a highschool diploma is an everyday, "no big deal, everybody has one" item. You are expected to go to college and get a degree for most fields and have to get an advanced degree for many of them. I have learned and very much believe that college is not for everyone. Some people just aren't designed for it, and that is not a bad thing. These are the ones that shouldn't be there but should be learning a trade. However, they don't do it; they limp through college because that is "what they're supposed to do."
I can say without a doubt that I am not a "beer guzzling savage." Despite how many times I've crawled back in at weird hours and hung out it bars, I have never drank a drop of alcohol and don't intend to. For that reason, I make a dang fine DD. I can't claim to not occaisionally instigate the drinking of it by others because drunk people can be funny. ;)
-
Its ok guys, I know that right now you are mad, probably down right furious at the results. I am sure not thrilled either. Instead of a pragmatic leader who could bring us out of this downward spiral we got... Well we got what we deserve I suppose. If it feels good to blame me, 1 voter who voted his conscience and standards then so be it, I mean one person shouldn't hold true to his values and ideals that's silly when so much is at stake. I guess while we are at it me and 1 million other voters can be held accountable for the GOP's failure to pull themselves out of the 20's. Why should we acknowledge all of the constitution when we can just pick and choose the parts we like.
I got thick skin so go ahead...
-
Minus the condescention and Bible bashing, I think Jde might sort of be on to something somewhat. I think the GOP would be well.served by either getting out of morality politics, at least at the Federal level. Let the States decide, a la Amendment 10. If California wants to have abortion, let them. If Montana doesn't, don't force them to. If a candidate said "As President, it is not my place to meddle in State level issues," they make anybody that does look bad, and more importantly, they stop trying to legislate things that are none of their business.
We regular folks need to not give in. I'm not going to look my kids in the eyes and tell them I quit when things got tough. It'll take as long to fix things as it took to get here. But that doesn't mean we stop. It means we prepare for a struggle that will outlast most of us, and push forward.
But hey, that's just me.
-
JdePietro,
I didn't say a word about who you chose to cast your ballot for. My comments were aimed at the college kid comment and even that doesn't include ALL kids as mkm pointed out.
Would your vote have put PA in the win column? Doubtful, but 10 million of them in strategic states might have. I don't think that the libertarian party has 10 million active members though since Doc Paul only got 500K in 2000...
As someone has already pointed out, the Grand Old Party is out of touch with more than 50% of the voting block, plain and simple. There are surely some issues that I could give two turds about! The Constitution is what matters to me and it's being decimated by the left.
I'll be moving back to the Independent column again since my vote means nothing here. At least I can chose primary on both sides.
-
Well we got what we deserve I suppose.
And just how do you "suppose" that?
-
We're getting what Jde and his sort deserve.
I haven't seen a break down of electoral votes but 500,000 "libertarian" votes would have put Romney well over the top on the popular votes.
Jde still can not grasp the fact that 3rd party was not an option, and all that self righteous fluff about "values and ideals" is so much BS.
If he was opposed to Obama and his policies the ethical, honest, intelligent thing to do would be to vote for any one who had a realistic chance of beating Obama, any other action could only benefit Obama.
I have more respect for Robert Hansenn than I do for those who voted 3rd party, at least when he betrayed his nation he got a million or so out of the deal.
-
How does 500K move the popular vote 3,000,000 votes to sway it to Romney? I'm not getting your point...
Strategically placed in specific districts most assuredly could have swung VA, FL maybe even OH.
-
3rd party politics is not ready for prime time, yet. People who tun for President as a 3rd party candidate and their supporters live in a fantasy land, or they just want to be able to congratulate each other on how politically sophisticated they are to notinstream. If somebody wanted to actually have a viable 3rd party, they'd start at the State and Congressional levels, and build a support base from there. Instead, ineffectual candidates and their followers walk around being impressed with themselves and talking down to people that voted "mainstream." Get over yourselves, hold your nose and pull the lever for the least destructive Presidential candidate. Leave the 3rd party stuff to places where it actually has a chance at success.
I don't know how much of a difference the other votes would have made, I'm just tired of the snotty, stuck up people who think everyone that votes for a popular candidate is some kind of idiot and is beneath them.
Sorry, I blacked out there for a second ;)

My second hand understanding was that there was only a couple hundred thousand votes difference.
I should have known better, the same source reported record turn outs and I am finding out that it was quite the opposite, lower than 08 possibly lower than 04.

The difference was 2,800,000 (+/-) in the popular but Johnson got 1,138,060 so far. That 1.14m could have certainly swayed several swing states in the Electoral....add the Green party and their 400K who knows!
-
What it boils down to is that the majority of voters have neither the intelligence or integrity to govern themselves.
It was a small majority, just on 50%, but enough to bring about the end of the founders experiment.
We now enter the age of the "cult of the personality".
It is the gift to us of the self righteous and stupid.

Lets not forget that the GOP made no inroads into the Senate either! The party is most definitely out of touch with what it takes to win seats anywhere. Playing by the rules will get you nowhere!
Everyone focused so intently on the presidency forgot that we were only a few seats short of the Senate....too bad, another missed opportunity.
-
Idiots in Missouri and Indiana cost two Senate seats. Legitimate rape guy, and pregnancy by rape is a gift from God guy. Those two jackwagons likely cost the ticket votes both up and down as well, and not just in Indiana and Missouri.
-
What seems obvious to me is that if the pregnancy cause by rape was God's Will, then the rape itself was also...and the rapist is just fulling the Will of God.
That established, any criminal, by the same belief system, is fulling the Will of God. Maybe we need to start working to have criminals Canonized rather than imprisoned?
-
There is no way we can reverse this. It's taken too long to achieve this level of dependence, laziness, and irresponsibility.
Just catching up on this thread.
No there is no GOING BACK. But there is certainly going forward into something new. Stay up on technology and you will see a consistent drive towards personal independence and individualized systems and a move away from one size fits all systemic solutions (like what comes out of DC). The Maker movement is worth looking at. They are largely gun phobic but are driving towards finding their own way of life.
We are coming out of 50 of canned news from MSM. They have lost their grip. What replaces them might not be that great for awhile but I think it will evolve.
I voted GOPish but am not one. In my view the GOP is dead not because of their religious beliefs, but because they are too invested in the old boat anchor way of being in opposition. They do not have a vision that communicates. Not bug government except when I want it is intellectually lazy.
We are moving into an age of the individual. Now if the individual is a stupid ignorant lazy lout, then things will suck. Kids in my family are none of those and most of my sons friends are not either. I am not worried about their abiities, I just feel sad that they will have relearn all the hard lessons about the vacuousness of stupid government promises.
BHO is not important in the long run simply because there is no way for DC to fix anything. He is the last hurrah of the 60's generation belief that if everyone just did it my way then I will be happy.
I'm going hunting, y'all stay safe.
-
Well, now that we have trashed everybody including ourselves, Joe G says there is a way to move forward. Let's hear more on that. Digging the hole deeper and giving up the ship are for the Greeks, not us. A little over a year ago my son and his wife gave me my first grandchild, a girl, and I'll be damned if I will leave her an orphan to freedom. Not as long as I draw breath. So, Joe G and others like him, let's hear you and your positive thoughts.

What is not "Ethical, honest or intelligent" about voting for a Candidate that best represents what I think a political candidate should? My poling station had a slew of Libertarian Candidates all of which I had the chance to either call and talk to or look up on the internet. After some discussion I voted for those I felt could positively impact the office they had chosen to run for. I did not however punch a party ticket and walk out. I was brought up to believe that is what voting is all about, not voting for the guy who has the best chance but rather the candidate that shares most of your views.
I am honestly shocked that so many people are both surprised that Romney lost and those who steadfastly back the clown as if he was the second coming. The guy penned the original .gov run healthcare policy. He stated repeatedly he was "No friend of the NRA" all up until he thought he could buy votes. Then he changed every view he had as Governor, put on a big smile and talked nonsense about abortion and gay rights.
So voting for a guy that flopped all of his previous positions, held onto notions of inequality and prejudice and who never once addressed a single real issue with the opposing and current president would have somehow put me in the "honest and intelligent" category?
I'm not trying to sound self righteous, or stuck up or like I made a super superior decision that should be lauded by the masses for my out of the box styled wit. No matter who would have won that race we would still all be: Paying taxes and far too much of it, paying for entitlement programs, paying for social security and medicare, paying for UN occupation, the NDAA would still exist, the war on Drugs, the war on Terror, and all the other nonsense that leads this country into despotism. The only difference now is that the fed ain't prosecuting pot use, the gays can get married in a few more states and we are one step closer to economic collapse.
Maybe just maybe someday people might stop voting against someone and they might start voting for a candidate they actually think will make a difference, and just maybe someday we will shock the world with the collapse of the two party system. If not then my contribution makes little difference in any light, and I'll see you in the same internment camp. I'll be the one Tom is beating senseless. :P
-
Jde, If you can't comprehend what I have already posted in fairly simple words you ain't never gonna get it.
You are part of the problem.
-
The reason we lost this election is simple, 3 million plus Republicans did not vote and the people who voted for the libertarian party. We needed that turn out to combat the fraud in the major cities. This is a major setback we need to all get on the same page and that is where the left has a true advantage.
I am a libertarian, but I am also educated in politics. I would love to see a true libertarian elected president, but we are a long way from that and to vote for one is misguided. It has taken the leftist progressives more than 100 years to tear us away from the constitution and our libertarian roots. Anybody who thinks we can elect a libertarian president and have things change overnight is a fool. It needs to be done in steps and will take many years and a lot of education to reverse the damage that has been done.
Romney while not perfect would have been a good start, he truly did have the intention of started to work on the serious debt problem and create jobs. During those four years it would have given us the chance to find a candidate for 2016 that was more libertarian in nature, but would have at least bought us time. Its like pinned down by an assault force and just trying to lay down enough fire until reinforcements arrive.
Those who did not vote or voted libertarian failed to see the big picture and did so on self indulgent principled arrogance, and did a great deal of damage to the cause. It will most likely take 10 years for every one year this corrupt administration is in charge to change it, and that’s assuming that it will even be possible. After the next four years we will see more then 50% of the people need Government just to survive, and the Supreme Court balance change to leftist puppets. Assuming we have another election, good luck on electing your principled candidate.
This election was not like any before in our lifetime, and those principled voters or non-voters, while in my heart I agree with their principles, they failed to see to big picture and underestimated how important this election really was. If Romney was elected at least we would have a President who truly cared about this country, not one who wants to punish it for being too successful.
For those of you who think the house will stop him, I hate to rain on your parade but he will just do it by executive order and fight it out in the courts for years. Those who failed in this election left a Dictator in charge that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants and the media will back him up.
So strap on your boots boys this is going to be a long rocky road, and worse than you think. It’s hard to prepare for a Government Cat 7 hurricane but do your best and may God help us.

Well put, jp1, pretty much my sentiments.
I choose to vote for any qualified Libertarian candidate on the ballot, but in this election, the stakes were too high.
My dismay and anguish is not that the candidate I voted for, Romney, lost but that BHO won...a lost for the entire country including those who voted for him...they just haven't found out yet.
Everyone's effort should have been to keep BHO from being re-elected.

Yep.
Before you can set about cleaning up a train wreck, you must first derail the train.

Whoa. That is what the media said. Not what he said. You are believing the mainstream lying media. Leftist thugs created words and attributed it to him....not what he said...do not fall for that and build up a mistaken belief.
Next, here is the lesser of two evils, Romney, who looks like, feels like, smells like the left's candidate as much as possible so the RINO's can entice votes from the other side. That is not leadership....that's following and even losers can smell that.
Better to stand for something and fall then to stand for their values and get belittled and be a LOSER.
The lesser of two evils did really well, eh? So....trying to win by being more palatable to the other side makes perfect sense, right? Time to reexamine. So much for RINO logic...the dems are in for the kill and guess who is in the crosshairs.
-
I heard the words from their own lips. Naturally, I heard it on radio, so I can't be certain it was them. Indiana guy during a debate, and Missouri guy during an interview. They tried to spin their ways out of it, but, too late.
It is over and done with now. Gotta move on, and I don't mean .org either.

Just some food for thought seems our republics has been sick for a long time...
10/26/01 - The Patriot Act - Removed most of the protections of the 4th, 5th and 10th amendments of the Constitution. A perfect example as to why guarding your enemies freedoms protects your own.
The Reagan 1980-88 In the name of defeating the threat of the USSR and communism, national debt is considered acceptable. During this time we also created enemies in the Middle East, SE Asia, and South America. Because we are fooled by numbers, we look back and see that the deficit only increased 1.9 trillion dollars during Reagan's 8 years in office. In actuality he tripled the deficit from 900 billion to 2.8 trillion dollars.
7/30/1965 - Social Security Act of 1965 - Creation of free healthcare or greatly subsidized healthcare. Prior to this most people had no insurance or insurance only for catastrophic events. Healthcare was relatively cheap, after this act healthcare prices rose at rates double than that of inflation as government set prices for care that became the standard price, as it became illegal to charge people less than government charged.
8/14/1935 - The Social Security Act - This Removed the responsibility of family to take care of their elders and created a sense of entitlement to not work after a certain age.
12/23/13 - The Federal Reserve Act - Took Control of the Currency away from the Government and into the hands of the International Bankers in the name of controlling inflation and deflation and curbing the business cycle. A 2012 dollar is now worth less than 2 cents.
7/9/1868 - the 14th Amendment - effectively removes the power of the 10th amendment of the Constitution, removes sovereignty of the states and the individuals. Before this a person would have identified themselves as a citizen of Virginia of THESE United States. Now a person was a citizen of THE United States who RESIDES in Virginia.
4/15/1861 - The Federal Government Authorizes force to keep states from seceding from the Union. A violation of its authority.
The Jefferson Years - Used force unconstitutionally in attacking a sovereign nation without consent of Congress. A precedent that created horrible wars in the future. Indebted the US without congressional approval in a purchase of land the country benefited from. But showed that the president was more like king than servant.
7/1794 - Washington illegally orders federal military to put down tax protesters in Western PA - Washington and his friends were charging a lower tax rate to BIG whiskey than to small whiskey.
All in all I'd say the actual notion of the Constitution was left behind only five years after inception.

It is over and done with now. Gotta move on, and I don't mean .org either.
Agreed.
