Didn't know where else to put this so here goes....
Does anyone know of a link to the requirements for firearms training for UTAH non-resident CCW. I have tried to get the info from a company that provides that training and an individual licensed in the state of Ohio to provide that training to no avail. I have also checked with the Utah AG's web site.
Thanks in advance,
Richard

Richard,
Call them or email, number is on the first page of the link. They teach the classes here in MA so I'm sure it's nothing too difficult.

Concealed Firearms permits in the State of Utah are regulated by the Bureau of Criminal Identification. A permit to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Utah may be obtained by completing the instructions, and meeting the requirements as outlined on Form 96-4-02 Application for Concealed Firearm Permit. (Document requires Adobe Reader. To download the FREE Adobe Reader, click here.)
If you have any questions for the BCI Firearms Division, you may contact us by phone (801) 965-4445 or email to DPSFIREARMS@utah.gov.

Thanks for the info Timothy but I am wondering how the Utah firearms training differs from Ohio. Might not need to take another course if what I have will work instead. Can't seem to find that anywhere! Will try BCI site.

TT is an NRA instructor, maybe he'll chime in...he helped me with my CT paperwork a few years back.. Shoot him a private message...

I sent them an e-mail. Maybe that will get some info back. Ohio requires the NRA Basic Pistol Course w/live fire. Not sure if that will work or not. From their outline it would seem so but I will wait to see what they say.
Appreciate the help,
Richard

Hey There Richard, I am from NE Ohio also and have a good link for you. Jason at this link can help you out with questions. He is a good guy and helpful. Runs a real good class. Hope it helps.

I have a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. All that they require is to attend a class, and pay the funds. I think it was about $90.
The class was conducted at a Cabela's here in Washington state. You will be fingerprinted, the instructor mails in
the paperwork to Utah, and they send it to you direct. I think it was about 3 weeks to receive the permit..
There was no shooting, or firearms handling in the class. The license is good for 5 years.
You can contact them at 801-965-4445. It can be renewed via mail.

What I remember from getting it a few years ago is that you had to take a course, of their design, from one of their certified instructors. All my other permits and certifications did not count.
-
Finally heard back from Utah! I will have to take a 4 hour course just to become familiar with their firearms laws!!! This leaves it up to me to become familiar with the laws of the other 35 or so states covered by the Utah CCW permit.
Go Figure,
Richard
PS: Thanks everyone for the help.

Richard,
I'm foggy this morning and might have missed this. Many carry permit instructors offer Utah along with their own state. TT is looking into it, but is not ready to make the trip to Utah for the training yet. The instructor I work with in Minnesota offers a joint course. It involves 75% the same for both states, he then makes it clear when he is giving Utah and when he is giving Minnesota details, and then we go to the range which is a Minnesota requirement.
There are many instructors who believe that you can not do joint. It depends on YOUR state, and how you present. Like I said, it adds to the length of the course, because the two state's laws must be presented in separate segments, and the two states must be clearly defined as to what is what.
Short answer after an short story is to contact a local instructor who offers the course.

By the way, do you understand the meaning of moral turpitude? Coolest question ever put on an application: Have you ever been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude?
-
I went to a class where we got Utah and Arizona at the same time. Evidently the Utah training satisfies the AZ requirements.
-
m58, I located the Utah site which listed instructors they certify to do their training course. It seems to be about a 4 hour course and includes Utah law. I don't need Ohio because I already have it. The Ohio class is more comprehensive and includes live fire. I e-mailed a local instructor and one recommended by Magnum and have not heard from either! I guess I will inquire about a class....maybe $$$$ will talk!
Thanks
Richard

Richard,
One of the things I have learned with instructors, and I fall into this sadly, is that they are busy people where their passion is not their career. We often times put our info out there with the intent on being better than the other guy. However, by the time we deal with a job, a wife, kids, life in general, managing the training business, and teaching, we tend to forget to get back to those with questions. I suffer from the same as all the instructors I cuss, and that is that if you happen to catch me on the phone, at a show, or at my email I will answer and much else is slow.
Good luck. You will find someone and you will get it done.

m58, I understand what you are saying, especially around the holidays! But when you are one of a limited number of certified instructors it might be nice to at least acknowledge my e-mail with I'll get back to you asap. And it's not just one but two instructors!

not every one checks email every day. I check mine maybe once a month, if that.

I fully understand Richard, but what I said is the real world. It isn't just shooting instructors. I find it in all areas where people have expanded their hobby and/or interest into a sideline business. With a regular full time business I make judgements on what I will do where based on things like lack of responsiveness to communications. However, I have been burnt in this area with part time people. Sometimes, note I said sometimes, the people who aren't doing classes are the ones who appear professional because they have nothing to do but reply to messages.

Anything issued by any agency satisfies AZ requirements.
You don't even need a permit here anyway...unless you want to carry in a place that serves alcohol or are in a National Park.

Actually, my NRA Instructor certification satisfied AZ.
Richard, sorry I haven't been around the past few weeks....nuts at work....long story. Anyway, you've gotten the information you need, it would appear. It's good that you have a resident permit in your home state, because Utah REQUIRES that you do before you can get one of their NR permits.
Utah also requires that you possess a Utah carry permit before you can be certified as a Utah Instructor. It's still my intention to do that, but the outfit around here that teaches the Utah course always seems to schedule their classes at the same time as my Iowa classes, the bat rastards!! ;D
-
tt, I got the basic info I need but have not gotten an e-mail back from instructors certified to teach the Utah cert. class here in Ohio. There is one in Akron so I guess I will have to call him and put up the $$$$.

Similar to Utah, my NH non-resident permit allows me to carry in about 29 states I believe.
There is no requirement other than the form and $100.00... They believe in the 2nd Amendment as written.
MA - Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont
NH - Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Wyoming
ME - Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Wyoming
I'm pretty well covered with my three permits...
BTW...ME doesn't require anything either! A six page form and a check for $65.00...
