Richard,

I'm foggy this morning and might have missed this.  Many carry permit instructors offer Utah along with their own state.  TT is looking into it, but is not ready to make the trip to Utah for the training yet.  The instructor I work with in Minnesota offers a joint course.  It involves 75% the same for both states, he then makes it clear when he is giving Utah and when he is giving Minnesota details, and then we go to the range which is a Minnesota requirement.

There are many instructors who believe that you can not do joint.  It depends on YOUR state, and how you present.  Like I said, it adds to the length of the course, because the two state's laws must be presented in separate segments, and the two states must be clearly defined as to what is what.

Short answer after an short story is to contact a local instructor who offers the course.

By the way, do you understand the meaning of moral turpitude?  Coolest question ever put on an application:  Have you ever been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude?

m58, I located the Utah site which listed instructors they certify to do their training course.  It seems to be about a 4 hour course and includes Utah law.  I don't need Ohio because I already have it.  The Ohio class is more comprehensive and includes live fire.  I e-mailed a local instructor and one recommended by Magnum and have not heard from either!  I guess I will inquire about a class....maybe $$$$ will talk!

Thanks

Richard

Richard,

One of the things I have learned with instructors, and I fall into this sadly, is that they are busy people where their passion is not their career.  We often times put our info out there with the intent on being better than the other guy.  However, by the time we deal with a job, a wife, kids, life in general, managing the training business, and teaching, we tend to forget to get back to those with questions.  I suffer from the same as all the instructors I cuss, and that is that if you happen to catch me on the phone, at a show, or at my email I will answer and much else is slow.

Good luck.  You will find someone and you will get it done.

Mike

m58, I understand what you are saying, especially around the holidays!  But when you are one of a limited number of certified instructors it might be nice to at least acknowledge my e-mail with I'll get back to you asap.  And it's not just one but two instructors!

I fully understand Richard, but what I said is the real world.  It isn't just shooting instructors.  I find it in all areas where people have expanded their hobby and/or interest into a sideline business.  With a regular full time business I make judgements on what I will do where based on things like lack of responsiveness to communications.  However, I have been burnt in this area with part time people.  Sometimes, note I said sometimes, the people who aren't doing classes are the ones who appear professional because they have nothing to do but reply to messages.

Anything issued by any agency satisfies AZ requirements.

You don't even need a permit here anyway...unless you want to carry in a place that serves alcohol or are in a National Park.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

Actually, my NRA Instructor certification satisfied AZ.

Richard, sorry I haven't been around the past few weeks....nuts at work....long story.  Anyway, you've gotten the information you need, it would appear.  It's good that you have a resident permit in your home state, because Utah REQUIRES that you do before you can get one of their NR permits.

Utah also requires that you possess a Utah carry permit before you can be certified as a Utah Instructor.  It's still my intention to do that, but the outfit around here that teaches the Utah course always seems to schedule their classes at the same time as my Iowa classes, the bat rastards!!  ;D
