Sun just coming up over the mountains is a wonderful sight 8) with the temp hovering around 37 below. It's going to be a great day. NOT TO LEAVE THE HOUSE> :o

When I started the truck this morning it was reading -24. I couldn't shut the door all the way since the metal was so cold it wouldn't latch. After 30 min warm up I could finally shut the door on the truck all the way. Should have stayed home.

I can live with the three that we have now, even tho they promised us a high of six. What I'm not happy about is the barn roof that is collapsing :'( At Thanksgiving it was a 4/12 pitch, and today there are two areas that are 2/12 to flat to 12/12, the ridge has dropped about a foot, and it is changing daily.
In the words of the contractor I called for help and advise, "Once one truss starts to go - GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!!"
280 head of oinkers are counting on us to keep putting bracing in for another six weeks.

It was 5 below when I was walking to work this morning.
Since before Christmas it has only got above 30 once , we had 31 degrees and rain (freezing variety ).

A blistering 2° here in southern MA @ 7:15 am. Shoveled a bit more global warming while I warmed up the horse and carriage! Finished digging the truck out when I got home...

5 Below again this morning , but at least the dish room was warm.
It was almost 60 in there today.
I like it when the sun comes up on the river mist frozen on all the trees in town .
Like the aftermath of an ice storm with out falling on my ass.

Saturday night about 8:30 the car thermometer said 16 degrees! I looked in the rear view mirror, once, twice and again. The motorcycle was still there! I know they had leathers on but the bike didn't even have a windshield let alone a faring! Makes me cold to think about it even today!!!!!!

We're supposed to get 4-5" of snow tonight and a few days later rain. We've had record lows and fairly warm days mixed together. The good news is I don't have to shovel rain. The bad news is that it's going to freeze the next day.

This is the time of year, Valentine's Day, that we commonly get a 2" rain. Problem is that it hits the snow and we end up with 6" of solid ice on top of everything white. In 1995 we had snow 15' deep in the grove, and in spring the ice layer stripped all the branches off the trees as it went down. Blue Spruce that were completely under the ice cover were accordianed down and looked like drink straws we twist and coil as we sit in cafes.
Hope we don't get it this year!

I wouldn't ride a snow mobile at 16 degrees! I would worry about "Black Ice" if it were me!

The only ticket I ever received on a motorcycle was in February, 1974 in Michigan! Costly one too!!! :)

Well, I'm one of those guys who ride the motorcycle in the cold. Wind chill of -45 was the coldest, and yes, it is just like riding a snow mobile. 2014 haven't been out on it yet here in MI due to having the shoulder rebuild, but will be back out again soon.

Expecting mid-60's here in KY tomorrow, then back to the light freeze, 30's over the weekend.
Most of the snow is gone. it's been a lot for central KY this year, or so I'm told. Seems light to me, but then I was acclimated to North Dakota!! If we got a snowstorm in KY of 2-4", the news was apoplectic, schools and .gov offices would close, and on an hour long newscast, 44 minutes of real content, fully 30-35 minutes were weather related. I especially like the car tasked with driving around with a dashcam on roads the .gov was frantically telling us to stay off!
In the meantime, ND was minus teens or twenties, with snow, and life managed to go on without a lot of comment.

Columbus is a couple hours South of us and it only takes a "Trace" of snow to throw them into a panic and close things down! Wouldn't have believed it but I was there when it happened!

Rain we can deal with but 14" of snow last week had people walking down the middle of the road with drivers, who don't drive in snow, sliding past them. ::)

Rain is melting a lot of the snow on the ground but I'm sure it will get cold again tomorrow. Thunderstorms are a possibility tonight but I've never seen one in winter. It's been kind of a weird winter with near record highs and lows both. Mother nature just can't make up her mind.

Got a short ride in last evening, and we are getting hit right now. Been snowing for seven hours. The good thing is that the snow started as predicted, but we missed the two inches of rain that were supposed to come before it.
Looks like I won't be riding again for a few weeks :'( But every ride in February is a bonus ;D

Well, some of them appear to be there just to watch and others seemed to be dressed in some kind of stripped institutional clothing and others are wearing green t-shirts and shorts, I guess for easier identification by their keepers.

The lake, in that spot, is four feet deep. The blocks of ice they removed were three and one half feet thick. As the water gets deeper the ice thickness stabilized, and the majority of the lake has an ice thickness of 30". Our small lakes down here have an average ice thickness of 20" to 24" ... Enough to carry my fat ass ::)

Thickness and % of coverage of the Great Lakes is going to be a problem this Spring if it ever gets here! Might have to take the motorcycle out in30+ degree weather all Summer!

Forecast missed the amount of "Global Warming" we were supposed to get Wednesday by about 3"! It warmed up enough to melt off some of that and more to go today. Still well below normal temps. I did realize one thing though.....there are no flowers poking up thru the ground! Usually we see flowers starting to come up and even bloom the third week of March! Damn Groundhog!

We woke up to snow again this morning. About 2 inches at my house, less in town. But it snowed another hour after I got to work this morning. So who knows how much we actually got. Last I heard our snowpacks are an average of 140% of normal. Which is good since we are in a drought. Fortunately I think we are done with the bitter cold. I just hope that we can get some consistent rain this summer.

It's snowing today but melting when it hits because it's just above freezing. I'm hoping it gets a little warmer to melt the chunk of ice in my driveway. I've been chopping it up so it melts faster but we're still having below normal temps. It goes up and down like a yo-yo. More snow and rain in the forecast but it's really anybody's guess.

But all those years were broken up with days that got into the 40's and 50's, even in January.
Not this year, just between 0-35 degrees for 4 months .
So far :(

A bit ago, I heard a GW proponent answering a question about how true could GW be when we were having such wide spread cold weather.
The answer was something like.... These excessive cold blasts fit in the GW prediction, but they will be happening less and less as GW takes over.
My first thought was.... You are trying to convince folks this is a Bad Thing?

In the past 10-15 years we have had a day or two or more in Jan., Feb., and or March in the 60's! Good golfing weather fer sure but not this year. There were weeks that if you added the high temp for all 7 days you wouldn't total 40 let alone 60! Getting too old for this and can't afford to move to warmer climes.

I'd believe the "butterfly fart effect" over GW any day...
voodoo weather patterns. More and more of the media is falling for it as well. I read something on Yahoo the other day about foods that are becoming extinct like bananas, cocoa, etc.. Every one of the paragraphs mentioned "climate change" as a determining factor.
Is the weather changing? F'king A it is...always does, always will, can't stop it! Forty years of emissions standards and carbon reductions and it took one little, bitty volcano in Iceland to make that a moot point!
I've seen that volcano...nothing to write home about! What about Pinatubo, St. Helens, that burpy one in Hawaii and the 40 or so others worldwide? Every time some tree hugger thinks man can control the weather, Mother Nature has a menstrual cramp and smothers the f'ckstick in some good ol' woopass!

39 degrees today light snow changed to rain.
Unfortunately the forecast was for 50 degrees and clearing.
Those weather azzholes can't accurately predict tomorrow's weather but we are supposed to ignore all the lies they have been caught in and believe that the ice caps will all be melted in 20 years.

My heat is included in the rent and the landlord replaced the boiler (steam radiators in a 210 Year old building)
last summer, he switched from oil to gas so he won't have anything to compare until next year.
But he spent about $1100 on gas this year.

Typical liberal arrogance, the people who know best whether you should have a gun or not, or what size soda is best for you have a "God complex".
I have said for quite some time that our enemies are insane control freaks, this is just another example.

Tim, Like I said before, surviving cold does not require LIKING it.
I think of this as "Beach weather".
Until it hits 70 again I will beach and complain. ;D
As a side note, in one of Richard Marcinko's "Rogue Warrior" books he comments on the tendency of former SEALs to retire to warm climates

Mine was on yesterday as well. I hosed out the condenser, (the big box with the fan on top outside, next to the house), last week in case we had to run it. Then yesterday our built in microwave took a dump. The one on the countertop will probably outlast me. So it's off to Home Depot to get that replaced. I hate having to pay to make broken $h!t work again.
