Title: Do you guys really drink HEINEKEN???
Post by: Ocin on August 11, 2008, 02:16:33 PM
Did you know where they built that brewery? Right next to the canals.

Ever wonder where they get their water from?

No!

Heinekin is to beer what Absolut is to vodka.  It's a product of good marketing but not a good product.

Had a Dutch beer back in the 70's and/or maybe the 80's (and I am not going to spell it right) but it was something like Orangeboom.  I recall it was better than Heinies.

Some of my favorite beers are Negra Modelo, Bohemia, Anchor Steam and Black Dog Pale Ale.  Also a big fan of Guinness as a breakfast beer.  Yeah, just skip the toast and pour a perfect pint.  Been know to swap out bottled water for a Coors Light too.

Is that why the bottles are green? :o

I don't drink Heini's anymore, just domestic,.. oh wait,... Adolphus Busch sold out to Belgium,...

Damn,,... Well, there's always my California wine habit... ;D,.... and Bourbon, Tenn. or KY, doesn't matter.

The last beer I drank was an American-made Flying Dog pale ale.

Tennesee Whiskey and Bourbon are two completely different things, no matter where they're made. Jack Daniels could be made into Bourbon if it wasn't charcoal filtered, but it's against the law to do that to whiskey and call it Bourbon. BTW Jeam Beam BLACK is exactly the same price as JD, at least here it is, but the Beverage Tasting Institute gives Beam Black an A on it's report card and JD just barely gets a B. Why drink a low B grade whiskey at an A grade price? Talk about successful marketing. Jack Daniels has it. Beam Black is aged 8 years and is smooth enough to drink straight. It doesn't have specs of charcoal floating around in it either. Anyone who likes Jack Daniels or Beam White should love Beam Black.

...and yes, the blurb on the right is on the 22 0z bottle. 'Nuff said.

And it's so arrogant, it forced Stone Brewery to give it it's own web site, lol http://www.arrogantbastard.com/ (http://www.arrogantbastard.com/)

PS, haven't had Heineken since High School when I thought I knew it all.

Have you noticed that real beer connesiours drink mostly Ales, and the the other 90% of beer drinkers buy Lagers? Most people buy watered down "lawnmower beer" because you can chug a cold one like soda after working in the sun, but they're like my light-beer drinking friends and couldn't handle a real beer.

P.S. The last Heinekin I had was probably over 20 years while I was stationed in Germany. A bunch of us in the NCO club were drinking it from a glass with a raw egg floating on top. You just gulp the whole them down.  :)

No, Heine for me, thank you.  I almost never drink anymore, but on the rare occasion that I tip back a couple, I enjoy a good Sam Adams. (Boston Lager and the Hefeweizen are hard to beat.)  As for bourbon / whiskey, if it ain't from Kentucky, it ain't worth drinkin'.   ;D  My last experience with the "kickin' chicken", I regained conciousness in the hallway of a posh hotel in Philadelphia, with my head leaned against my door and nothing on except my boxers.  Luckily the rest of my clothes, minus my wallet and room key, were in a pile on the other side of the hallway.  I'm sure the gentleman working the front desk still talks about the guy who was so drunk he locked himself out of his room.  From what I've been told, I made a lot of friends that night.  Just wish I could remember how I ended up in the hallway with no clothes on!   :o  However, my butt wasn't sore the next morning, so it seems I was either lucky or able to watch my own back... literally.   8)  I mean Philly is called the city of brotherly love.  We used to converse frequently, but the next time I have an open dialogue with "The Turkey" it will be from the confines of my own home.

Just for fun I chose the "Do Not Accept" option. Funny stuff. Give it a click and you'll see what I mean.

It has 3 different things, Do, Not, and Accept. I tried all 3.

I drink bourbon more than anything else because it's easy to find, and I'm not too fussy to drink Rebel Yell but they don't sell it around here. My second choice is  190 proof Everclear, mixed of course. I order it on the internet since they don't sell anything stronger than 151 here. Everclear and apple juice tastes just like German schnapps at a small fraction of the cost. I just LOVE Stroh 80 with Coke because it tastes like butter rum lifesavers. With a kick. It's 160 proof rum from Austria and I also get that on the internet. I used to get it in Germany. Asbach brandy is also available on the internet. It's better than French Cognac, but since it's German they aren't allowed to call it Cognac.

I'm getting a beer out of the fridge right now. My 5th beer in 2 years. Beer tastes like crap compared to mixed drinks and I haven't found one I like since I quit drinking it 20 years ago. If I can find one I like then I'll switch back to beer again. I used to like the unpasterized beer in Germany but it didn't like me. Beer that's still alive does things to your gut if you drink too much.  :)

Heinie tastes like my heinie!! I run a warehouse for Anheuser-Busch, so it's Bud for me. But with age I too have gone the bourbon, whiskey way. A cold bud after mowing the lawn and with pizza thats about all the beer I do. Mixed drinks for me ;D

Never have liked heinie, I have turned to local homebrewers over the past few years because most of the corporate domestic brewers (an-hows-your-bush, Molson/Coors - yuk, Miller - the official beer of La Raza) have forced me to do it. It's due to their massive contributions to illegal alien causes (La Raza, Mecha and others). These corporations are willing to sell out our great Nation by supporting illegal aliens >:( all in the name of money in their pockets, they don't care about legal Americans and our/your job(s). I have had to stop drinking some local brews also because these corporate giants have bought out the local micro brews. That's my feelings and opinion and I'm sticking to it. Check it out, you may be suprised

I knew that stuff taste like somone's heinie but I wasn't sure whose.  ;D

If anyone knows of a beer that tastes good let me know, I'm still looking. I had a few more Flying Dogs last night. It started tasting good by the time I finished the last one.  :) Only one bottle left. I just went to Rite-Aid and saw a can of Modelo but decided not to try it. Beer is okay when you're on the go and can't stop to mix a good drink. I want to try Sam Adams but stocked up on rum and Coke instead because I know it's good. Jack Daniels went up and Jim Beam didn't so Beam Black is a $1 cheaper than [expletive deleted] JD.

The worst Euro beer known to man is Peroni. An Italian beer served in a brown bottle, so you can't see the nuggets floating around inside.

When I lived in Germany. I used to go to Holland on business from time to time and for spring vacation with the kids. I always bought  cases of Grolsch in the brown flip top bottle to bring back. I liked the brown bottle stuff better than the green bottle Grolsch we get here. I hardly ever drink beer. I like the English ale better. But my drink of choice is Single Malt Scotch or Famous Grouse -- which altho it is a blend, the McCallum is the base for the blend. It is good stuff.

The comments on Heinekin's quality reminds me of comments by Mexicans when the discussion turns to drinking Jose Cuervo.  What, you drink Cuervo, worst tequila made in Mexico, that is why it is exported.  Good tequila is not exported from Mexico.

The only time I drank Heinie was in the Middle East and it and Bud were the only choices at the beer tent on the pier.  Usually drink Guiness, Sam Adams, and Killians.  Our Aussie friends have the same opinioni of Fosters as the Cuervo.  "Foster's; Austrailian for PISS Mate!"

All good.  Some are just better than others.  Another way to look at them is, when you turn them upside down ... they all look or taste alike.  You know, kind of like the sorority girls we dated in college.

Some of the best Mexican beers have German roots.  Once upon a time, there were some German brewers that got tired of shoveling snow and living next door to France.  So ... they jumped a boat and headed to Mexico.  Now ... you know the rest of the story.  Or ... that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Now that I am thinking of beer ... must go find some.

Heard the German story, sounds reasonable.  Lot of German influence in Mexico.

After at least a couple of six packs, then they started tasting and looking good.

I finally tried Sam Adams and like it better than any other beer I've had in the last couple of years. I just finished my Cherry Wheat (with real Michigan cherries) and have to switch back to Boston Lager. They had a few other flavors at the store too. I want to try them all but the Summer Ale was only in cases and not 6-packs. The way I remember it Heinekin wasn't very good but neither is some of the domestic beer. I used to say Grolsch was GROSS but I liked the bottles because flippies are so unusual. I should buy one and save the bottle. I tried Foster's in the 23-ounce "oil cans" and didn't like it. I never had Corona but heard the reason people put a lime in it is that Corona tastes like donkey p!$$.

Any others besides Sam Adams that are worth buying?

Budweiser all the way.  They use rice instead of wheat, it just agrees with my system.  And I like the taste too.  One beer I do avoid is Miller High Life.  They use a clear bottle and as a result go heavy on the preservatives.  Headache beer.

Remember those 75cent little nips of Rolling Rock at the Mug?  We used to drink it because it was the cheapest stuff they had, now it's yuppie beer.    By the way, Anheiser Busch bought out Rolling Rock and moved production out of Latrobe Pa., idlling the plant.  Fortunately Sam Adams is putting it back into production and saving the town.  I guess you know that you shouldn't order a Bud in Latrobe unless you're looking for a black eye :)

If you enjoy the fruit flavored beers, I tried one in Maine a few years ago that was awesome.  It was a blueberry wheat bear, but for the life of me I can't remember the brewer.  If I'm not mistaken it had the word "dog" in it (Salty Dog, maybe?)  I am pretty sure it was an off shoot of Shipyard.  Maybe some of our friendly Yanks can help a little here since that's their neck of the woods.  Tombogan?

I never even tried a fruit-flavored beer until I decided to try a Smirnoff Ice a last month and now I'm willing to try just about anything. The Cherry Wheat didn't taste fruity at all but I could smell the cherries. The Boston Lager tases like Lager and not like one of those corn and rice cereal beers like Bud. Come on guys. Tell me what else is good that I can get without going back to Germany.

SEA DOG and some others make blueberry beer. I never heard of them before.

EDIT: I saw some blueberry beer in the store today and thought WTF? Why not? It's called Wild Blue and it's the same deep red color as blueberry juice. It smells like a bit like bluberry pie and mostly tastes like beer. This stuff is 8% alcohol so it won't take many of them before I don't care what it tastes like.  :)

The only time I drink Heinie is when the particular dive I happen to be in doesn't have Redhook or Mac&Jacks or Rogue. Pilsners are definitely an acquired taste. You have to be able to get past the skunk smell. I will drink it over swill like Bud, Miller Coors etc.. And light beer, yuck. Drinking light beer is like smoking stems and seeds. All it does is give you a headache.

Most of my friends are a bunch of light beer drinking **ssies. Why bother drinking "beer" that's part beer and part water? They wouldn't know how to act if they had a real beer.

But we know how they'd act.  Silly after the first one, starting to slur and burp on the second one, and somewhere around the fourth you'd start seeing less and less of them for whatever reason.
