Title: A Pocket Full of .22

I admire Tam’s courage, trying the 2000 round challenge with a pocket .380, but this does raise the question as to why someone hasn’t cranked out a .22LR version of a pocket .380 by now.

This is from Kevin's latest blog.  Read the whole thing at:

I thought he might get some more answers here.

For starters, I owned both a Walther PPK/s in .380 and in .22lr.  They had been making them for years.  Sold mine a while back for the reason Kevin states in the blog, and it drew a pretty penny from somebody mainly because it was German, not US made.  I sold it because it served no purpose.  I wasn't carrying the .380 any more and for .22lr target and plinking I have a Ruger MK I w/ iron sights and a Browning Buckmaster w/ red dot.

Walther is again offering them both in SS and blue steel.  Price is under $400.

Anybody else have ideas along Kevin's desire.

Beretta has the Model 87 Cheetah in .22 L.R., or did have. It was a high quality pocket .22, with a price to match. It was in the same class.

A PPK is a better pocket pistol than the PPK/S. They should make that one in .22 caliber.

Unfortunately, I think they've always made the .22lr in Germany and the import restrictions on PPK still applies.

Alf, Sig has a .22 version of their 938.  I had heard that they were going to sell a conversion unit also.

FWIW

my TPH slide bit me, and had sharp corners on everything... my Beretta 21A is much more shootable... my PPK had much more recoil than it should have had, compared to any locked breech .380 I've owned...perhaps Glock will come out with a .22lr the size of a G42

I shot my friends TPH and while, like the PPK, it could bite you, it was surprisingly mild to shoot.  Milder and less kick than the PPK in .22.  If I were to be of the mind to carry a .22 I think I'd try to find a TPH.
