Title: Today, I got T-Boned
Post by: fatbaldguy on January 11, 2016, 06:38:26 PM
by a 72 year old woman, that ran a red light, at 45 MPH, and has no insurance.  Hit me in the drivers door.   My 15 year old 'beater' commuter car is toast.  I'm taking Vicodin and Ibuprofen.  Don't know as I'll be fit to work tomorrow, or for a few more days than that.  I'm all kinds of sore right now.  No broken bones, lacerations, or major trauma.  A couple of separated ribs that get my attention when I cough or move wrong.

I was transported to the local ER, cause that's one hell of a whallop.  I think I've been hit harder, but I don't remember when.  Maybe in the 70's.

The police and EMT's in Solus' neck of the woods treated me very well indeed.

The other driver admitted fault at the scene.  Just gotta figure out how to get another car without going into debt.  I've got a few thousand in cash, really don't want to part with it though.  I'm sure my insurance premiums are going up, because she was uninsured.  Like that's my fault.

So sorry FBG.

I hope your recover is swift.   And let's hope the insurance company comes through.  Since she wasn't insured does that open up the possibility of lawsuit?   Does she have any assets worth suing over?

I haven't reviewed the Ohio law on auto insurance lately, but  when they first made it mandatory, you had to purchase at least a minimal policy that included liability in specified amounts for injury and property damage.  At the time, the only alternative was to be able to post a bond, or collateral, to cover the amount the policy would insure.

So either she was driving illegally or has assets covering the liability....or the law has changed.

That sucks FBG. It sucks even more that she hit you on the driver's side. Get well soon.

It's gonna hurt more for the next couple of days before it gets better....but the good thing is you're here.  Could have been the other way.

Been through the same kind of thing here but not nearly as bad.

Get well soon....and I sure hope she cough's up some cash.

FBG,

Glad you're OK, even if a bit sore. It could have been much worse. Just take it easy, and give everything a chance to heal. Sounds like a real deadbeat hit you. That always makes it suck worse. Metal can be replaced, but you can't. I know right about now you feel anything but "lucky", but you really are. Getting T-Boned on the drivers side at that speed most always results in bad injuries. The guy upstairs was looking after you.

Take care of yourself first fat boy!  I'm sure you already know how much and how long the physical pain will last, but at least you are here to feel it.

I used to complain about insurance, today is pretty close to one year from my last accident.  I took full blame, even though the little chicky parked in the middle of the road in a white out.  I gave her my insurance card, called may agent, her pickup was fixed, my pickup was fixed, and I got constant calls from the claims department making sure I was getting the medical care to heal well.

Good luck with everything!

Boy howdy, you ain't kidding!  Thanks for the well wishes all.  I lay down for a couple of hours, because drugs, and could hardly get back up.
Imma let my insurance company handle everything.  I do have uninsured motorists coverage.  Just didn't carry collision coverage on that car because of its age.  Damnit all!

your uninsured should pay for the car, but normally it has a real low limit. Like under 25k for everything.   I always have the bump it to 100k just in case.

Glad to hear n major injuries. Although sometimes sprains and bruises can hurt worse than a break, they heal up faster.

The car wasn't worth much, except as a daily driver that got 36-38 MPG.  I had just put pads on the front, and drums and shoes on the back too.  Was telling the missus to pull $100 a week to put in the safe as money for the next car.  I had hoped for this one to last another 18 months.

I carry the max coverage that Allstate offers on EVERYTHING.  I'm grandfathered, I can't get this kind of coverage anymore.  Not from anybody.

Wow, did I misread that headline.  I saw, Today I got A T-Bone.

I was ready for a discussion about why a Porterhouse is better and a good bone-in Rib-eye is better than both.  Is my face red...

FBG, I sincerely do hope you're feeling a great reduction in pain at this point.  I had a similar experience more than 40 years ago.  My Datsun was t-boned by a Dodge Charger.  I recall being in serious pain for at least a week and then in tolerable pain for another week.

There's really not a great deal you can do about the pain except to take those prescription drugs that turn you into a lump. But,  I also found that a Jacuzzi and massage therapy helped mitigate the pain.

FWIW,
