I have the money saved up for a new purchase, was going to get my hands on a new Glock 41.
Now a friend of mine is shooting a Glock 34 gen 4 MOS.
His cost of reloading 9 mm is 2/3 the cost of reloading .45 acp and I do own a 1911 or two. :-\

I just went through the same struggle. Actually I went through it a couple years ago reloading and shooting my 45 in USPSA, I decided back then that a 9mm is the next pistol. I did, an XDM 9 with a threaded barrel & suppressor sights ;D. I have 2 45s and I don't regret it. Next is a 22, probably that new S & W auto ;)

As we all know, reloading isn't to save money it's to shoot more with the same money.
Twice the lead, almost, in the bullets. About a 3 to 5 cents savings per bullet, 9 over 45.
Maybe you could save a fraction of a cent per round if all your .45 cases were small pistol primer sized.
Also with less external surface area, 9mm's are easier, effort wise, to resize.

I own a Glock 27 in .40 S&W. It's my everyday carry gun. It's been with me for more than a decade and I really like it. Nonetheless, .40 is not inexpensive and 9mm costs significantly less to shoot.
My solution was to purchase a 9.mm replacement barrel from Lone Wolf. it's an exact fit and has the benefit of being threaded at the business end so I can use a suppressor. It looks like they make exactly what you're looking for and the price is just over $100. That's a lot less than buying a new Glock.
You can check it out here. http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Search.aspx?TERM=Glock%2041%20barrel
I like the idea that it doubles your range time potential. As Elton John famously said, "Being bi-sexual automatically doubles your chances."

I do have a Glock 17 gen 1, my every day carry is a Glock 23 gen4 in .40 cal. I was wanting to shoot the competition division in GSSF so the G-34 or G-41 in MOS was looking very attractive to me, and now the mad scientists at Glock have made the G-17 gen4s in MOS so now I have to stop from thinking I need that one too maybe next year.
I can shoot the stock guardian division with the gen 1 G-17 for now.
Gen 4s for me are great in the fact that you can replace back-straps to fit your hand especially the beavertail grip.
Common sense tells me to stick to same caliber for the competition guns. Then you have to only have to bring one type of ammo.
This is therapy for shooters, Right? ???

Oh great .... now the mad scientists at Glock have come out with the G-17 in M.O.S.
this may start a new division in GSSF competition for reflex sighted Glocks. 8)
Hope these will be available by the end of the year at my blue label dealer.

Too cool.

Suarez international has pre milled slides for Glocks .
may be able to get the site already installed.

If you don't buy the whole pistol you can use the difference to buy more ammo.

Just got a good buy on a Gen 4 G-17, will be purchasing a Glock 34 gen 4 MOS upper later.
Also later this year I will hopefully be buying a Glock 41 and a Glock 40 and 21 uppers as time permits.

I think I need to find a 12 step program for my Glockahalizim.

Don't waste money on a "program", spend it on more Glocks. Duh.
You're one of those guys I see at the GSSF matches with 6 or 7 guns and shoot in 7 divisions. They had to create special shooting bays for you guys. I'm just a pitiful 2 division shooter with one gun.

don't need no stinking forty five...I switched to the Glock platform after a link failure at the Ft Benning 3 gun match in 2006....164# of cleaned 9mm brass (~13,000 pcs)

Well, Alfsauve................... I just came home with a G-21 gen 4.
You never told me when I turned to the dark side this would become obsessive.
At least I haven't start messing with the .357 sig cartridge yet.
Have you ever tried the 10mm ? It is totally awesome.

I shoot Guardian and now will be shooting Heavy Metal.

Fortunately, I've been able to resist despite the cookies. I sold my G34, I couldn't shoot it worth beans, and only have the G17. Primarily I own it so I can shoot GSSF. I've discovered that to do good in their competition I only need to shoot one gun. Shooting multiple platforms messes me up. I've scored higher since I sold the G34. So unless I achieve Master status (unlikely) I'll just keep shooting the one G17. I thought about buying an extra for backup at a match. But Glock will repair any breakdown for free at the match and GSSF will let you "do over" for gun malfunction, so there's no need.
I get it that a 10mm gives you both capacity and power in one package, I just never got turned on to it. When I get that need-for-power, I just take out my .44 Mag these days.

Ummm, 10mm!
I'm frustrated by the fact I've never managed to find one to try.
I thin Bullet slightly smaller than .45 acp traveling faster than a .357 would make an excellent "do it all" pistol.
-
Tom I'll sell you a Bren Ten for $2,500. Just to remove you from your quandary. ;D

It's the girls fault!! She got a Glock 17 after trying a bunch of pistols for competition (gen 4). I tried it out and liked it well enough to get a 34 gen4. Have done a ton of shooting that gun in the last year in 3Gun and found that it seems to work well for me. Actually thinking about getting a 41 now too. I have been shooting 9mm almost exclusively for the last few years. I started looking at components to reload 45 and went wow!! Sticker shock!! You would think I did not shoot 1911's for decades... Of course when shooting 45 I was casting my own, and now looking to buy them...

The 10mm is the same diameter as the 40S&W

.40S&W is just a down loaded 10 mm. Because 10 mm had to much recoil for FBI.
That's why they call it "short and weak".

True. The .40S&W also fits in a smaller frame making it usable by folks with smaller hand sizes and easier to conceal.
Further, the .40S&W meets the FBI criteria for an "effective" round where the 10mm does not....because it over penetrates, which leads to the round exiting the target and causing collateral damage. Also, when it does exit, all that extra energy is not delivered to the target and there is reduced control and follow up shot speed. There is also the additional battering the weapon will take.
