You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much? Read this:
Boy am I confused. I have been hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us.
I now find that to be RIDICULOUS.
I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them. I
have included the URL's for verification of all the following facts.
1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year.

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a
half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are
going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US
Verify at: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html
11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that
crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from
Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin
and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border.

The total cost is a whopping $338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR. Are we THAT stupid?
-
YES +1
-
+2, Damn Skippy!
-
Yeah, percentage wise the war is really just a drop in the bucket..... The entitlement crap is what is bankrupting us.
-
How dare you cross the teaching of 'The Anointed One'!! You will spend your days in hell (that's the US under BHo).
This has been a problem for a long time - it is not new unfortunately. How do we kill this problem? I hope this will be part of McCain's freeze & hatchet plan. I guess it won't hurt to send another letter to him for after his win to make sure he is aware of this abuse.
-
This has been around for a while, but, yes, illegal immigration is breaking us, along with foreign aid to countries that hate us. Don't expect much from McCain on this as he was one of the sponsors of the last amnesty bill.
-
Are we THAT stupid?
WE aren't, but apparently some are.

McCain isn't my first choice, but he's damn sure the best choice available this year!!

That's the truth
-
Gee, this is a happenstance that has been occurring during the now almost 8 year reign of Jorge Arbusto. I guess he never saw an illegal alien butt he didn't want to kiss.

The answer to illegal immigration is simple. Dry up the job market. Make it illegal to hire illegals and prosecute whomever hires them. So who will take the jobs the illegals are doing?
As for the drug problem, simple, put all the addicts in the US in rehab, no drug market, no drugs. But then all the drug trafficers and those protecting them will have to go on welfare or unemployment.

We have been dumping money into "The war on drugs" for 40 years, we learned nothing from the prohibition of alcohol. My advice is legalize it, (Don't get mad yet ;D ) tax the crap out of it, subject it to the same regulations as Booze, and pass a law making "Irresponsible use" a crime punishable by up to 5 years, apply that to alcohol as well.
-
Sounds good Tom. Hadn't thought of handling the drug problem that way. Couple that with mandatory rehab and tax the caca out of drugs, probably cheaper than what we are doing now, blaming everybody else for our drug problem. Getting rid of liberal colleges might help.

I can't think of any problems that would NOT help solve ;D

"liberal college"..........isn't that a redundancy?

My first school was fairly conservative leaning, but yeah you're pretty much right. I have bloodied up a professor or two in my day, in debates of course. ;)

Actually agressivly auditing companys would catch most of the illegal immagrant work force. Shut down the companys that are doing it, fine the shit out of them... it won't take long until most of them go away.
-
If the gov't comes and checks you for illegals and you cannot show where you have done 'due diligence' of checking SSN then you go to jail and lose the company!. Gov't sells company at great price to employees (1st choice) or others and bingo! no more illegals on the payroll.

you know it always cracks me up how some employers say it cost so much to do back ground checks on thier employees..
They are full of shit. I can get a basic crimal background check, credit check, SS # varry for less then $30, Its about $50 with a drug test. Normally you hear back in 3-5 biz days. The back ground check I do( life scan, the CA DOJ check/ finger printing, lets you work in schools) Is only $75, gives them instant bonding, Add in a drug, TB, and credit check for about $120. Hell there is a online service that lets you check SSN and its free.
Trust me the employers know what they are hiring... they just don't care, they want the cheap labor.

TAB is correct, when I worked at Inland Metals in Hayward Ca. half the crew was illegal, The owners paid them crap and treat them with no respect at all, I didn't last long after one of the owners talked to me the way he did the Mexicans, I was gone soon after but no employer talks to ME that way.

But who would be left to stage sit-ins, practice veganism, and keep Birkenstock in business? Not to mention all the unfortunate trees that would have no one to hug or cry for them. ::)

Unfortuantely the background check is flawed. 20/20 (or 60 Minutes) did a piece a few years ago and had a producer get a fake SSN and get hired by Cargil Foods in say Nebraska and they found that the same name and Social worked for the same company in three other states at the same time. When they checked further they found that the orginal person the SSN was assigned to was a homeless guy from Puerto Rico that sold someone his Social Securty card. The problem wasn't the companies fault as they had followed the rules on background checks with SSNs and the state police. SSA and IRS has no database matching SSNs to W-4s that can be verified as correct. Its a huge snowball. The local banks don't notice a direct deposit for someone else's SSN. Company payroll won't notice the problem either since it's all automated and the checks are sent to locations for distribution without cross checking any of that. The crime databases won't have records unless one of the illegals gets a ticket but they still aren't nationalized, so someone in CA won't show up in a database in NY. We had a guy here that was pulled over on the Beltway in a MD registered dumptruck with a FL license and a VA HazMat permit less than 12 hrs after getting a ticket in Utah under the same name. Of course the paperwork was clean as far as the business was concerned and the Trooper couldn't hold him since they can't do anything about possible illegals since it's "racial profiling."
-
Jnevis,
That's why I said as long as the company did their due diligence they would be held harmless.
Yes, the system is flawed and needs to be better but it would be a start if we let it be known that the law was actually going to be enforced! (I know, what a novel concept! ::) )

Amen, Hazcat.

As a small business owner, I have one employee who is Mexican (legal, yes I checked) and trying very hard to gain citizenship. He passed all the tests, twice. Took all the classes, twice. He shows up for work every day on time and is responsible and ethical. He has been denied citizenship now and the reason was his DUI. Not good I know but he has completed everything the state asked and doesn't drink anymore to my knowledge. The feds denied him for a felony DUI, but on his paperwork and according to the state, it is a misdemeanor. Illegals commit a crime just for being here and they get treated better! WTF!!??

You know its funny you bring that up... I have a employee form romaina... the guy is one of the best plasters I have ever seen... It took him 15 years before he could legally work in this country. he was legally here, just could not work. He hates the illegals more then anyone else I know... let me put it this way, he has a INS agent on speed dail.
-
What cooptire says about his employee is very common. The process, delays, treatment and other factors are so cumbersome and outright prejudiced that too many people get discouraged from applying. A previous girlfriend from Mexico came to the US legally, learned English, learned US history, paid all her fee which kept going up and did all the requistes for citizenship. She got jacked around by INS, they lost appointments, lost records and generally acted like assholes. After repeated trips to El Paso, nearest INS office, 180 miles, finally got her citizenship, about 8 years after applying. I don't blame people for not wanting to put up with the prejudice, delays and overall treatment they get from INS. If they complain, guess where your application goes.

But the Dumocrat Liberal idiots keep feedin the public that Georgies war is causin all the problems in the US. :(

Entitlements and foreign aid to countries that have never been our friends are the 2 biggest drains on US economy

What you say makes the illegals even more offensive, it's like they are saying "what chumps" to the folks who try to do it right. :(

When the European immigrants came over and entered thru Ellis Island, the mechanism was set in place to document them in and give them legal status. When that was happenimg, there was nothing similar in place to "welcome" immigrants coming thru our southern borders. For several hundred years, our southern border has been an open border and people have been crossing freely. It is only within the last 10 years that the crossings have been called a national security issue. The treatment of immigrants from Europe and Mexican/Central and South America has been and is totally different. Comparing European migration and Mexican migration is comparing apples and oranges.
What would you do if your family is improvished and hungry, knowing that you are unlikely to get legal status to enter the US because of time and money? I don't like the illegal situation but would like to see the present system revamped for the processing of allowing people to come in legally. But, I can understand why they take the risks that they do to come here.
-
Should set up an "Ellis Island" type operation on BOTH borders, and track those who come in as temp visitors/tourists to make sure they LEAVE. Ellis Island had its faults with crowding etc. but it WAS reasonably effective.
Actually concerns about the southern borders national security implications date back AT LEAST to the Reagan administration when it was seen as a potential entry point for communist infiltration.
In that regard it is interesting to note that ALL known successful terrorist infiltration has been through Canada, or International airports. Several attempts made through the southern border have been thwarted when MEXICANS alerted authorities.

That makes perfect sense when you think about it. The Mexicans entering the U.S. illegally want to stay here. Whats the point in sneaking across the border in hope of a better life if some a-hole is going to blow it up?

Totally agree Tom and Swoop. Quite possibly we would not have this big of a problem. About the time of Reagan, we would get some information on terrorist and infiltration. Supposedly there were training camps within 100 miles of the border and some camps in New Mexico. Nothing ever came out of what we were hearing, so wonder what the truth was.
Having grown up in New Mexico and my parents in Texas, have seen a lot of how people treat other people because of their skin color. It stays in you when growing up and later on being treated as second-class citizen based solely on skin color. That is in large part why I am sensitive to the illegal issue and misconceptions being preached and those who are not familar with it will believe it. One good example is, on a Bill O'Rielly show, he had Michelle Malkin on and they were talking about illegals and a Mexican-American political organization named "La Raza". Michelle was ranting about how the name denoted racial superiority. The organization was started maybe thirty to forty years ago and there has never been a racial superiority organization in the Mexican community. "La Raza" simply means "The People" and in this case simply "The Mexican People", nothing more. It is like the Navajo call themselves "Dineh", which means "The People". Wonder how many people now believe that "La Raza" is a racial superiorty group?

It's what I thought, (about "La Raza" ) There are plenty of reasons for dis liking people or even hating them, that if all you can come up with is something as lame as skin color you should consider that person a role model.
