Title: Breaking in mag...doesn't seem right to me??
Post by: 73Bronco on March 12, 2009, 10:43:24 PM
My new Glock magazines are extremely hard to load and I've read that they need to "break in" ::)  This doesn't seem right to me.  I don't buy cheap magazines any more because they do "break in"  As a matter of fact, they keep "breaking in" until they start to give you problems with the weapons.  I'm no guru but I do speak from experience.  I just received new factory mags for my Star Firestar and I can't tell any difference in spring pressure between the brand new ones and ones that have been fully loaded for years.  In my opinion, that's how a quality mag should work and that's why I pay more for them.  What do you guys think ???

I've seen both, it depends on the metal and temper used on the mags I guess. I saw Taurus mags that needed to be broken in, while the Novak's I use for my 1911 didn't.

Taurus mags always seemed like a bear to load. They still feed as well as my Glocks, S&W and Ruger. I love the adapter for loading the Glock mags.

I think you just duped your own thread.  :-*

Have you called Glock C.S. yet?

What you are describing in the other thread is not normal.

Never really read or heard about "breaking in" of mags, for the M+P I own or the FN9,

however, that last round is a bi*** to get in,...

The Wilson combat 1911 8rd mags work and load stiff for #8, but no problems.

Every other range session, I do disassemble all mags and clean, lube, inspect,.etc,..

Just never really noticed any difference between the rebate M+P mags ( took 3 months to get ), and the one's the came with it that had a few hundred rds. through them..

I thought the "G" pistols didn't have a CS dept, as they are flawless,...... ::) 8)

Taurus magazines were the only mags that I found difficult. Though I remember having sore thumbs from a day on the range while serving in the Air Force when we switched to the Beretta 92F's.

Make sure you leave the mags fully loaded for a few days, and pray we avoid a 10-round mag limit...10-rounders were/are nightmares to load!

welcome to my world.   I actually don't mind it so much when it comes to pistols( as I'm a 1911 guy)  but it really ticks me off when it comes to rifles.   Then again my super evil nylon 66 is tube fed... it holds 15..   ;D

I had a new Wilson Combat that was hard to load from round one once, and a "wise guy" at the range said they need to be "worn in."  I rolled my eyes and went to the safety area to get away from him, stripped it down, brushed it, wiped it with a silicon cloth and reassembled.  Worked great ... nice accidental find.  Now I clean my mags more than the gun (mostly because I don't drop the gun in the dirt every six to 16 shots).

+1 on cleaning the mags. The only malfunction I ever had on my CZ was due to that. It happened at an IDPA match 2 or 3 times. Then someone asked how often I cleaned my mags. After I gave them that deer-in-the-headlights look...I went home and found the mags were full of soot and brass "dust". Now I clean my mags between every match or two.

I agree for the most part. After many hanguns the only mags I had that needed breaking in were 10rd mags for my P220. Wilson 10 rd mags for my 9mm 1911 are the only ones I need a "super thumb" to load.

bringing them back is a felony...

federal offense i belive.. due to the fact that your transporting across state lines... not good for jail sentence... nor for gun rights

no just state law.

Every few years the CA DOJ scoped out NV gun shows, looking for CA people buying things they can't have.  When they come back into CA, they are stoped at the agro check point to look for fruits and veggies.

Ma. used to do that sort of crap. They would have a plain clothes cop hang around the State liquor stores, (conveiniently located just off the highway just over the state line ;D  ) and call in Ma plates they saw in the parking lot to be stopped when they crossed back into Ma. That ended when NH State Cops started arresting the ones from Ma. for being out of their jurisdiction. ;D

never happend in NV.   Most of the money coming into NV comes from CA.  One of those, they need us more then we need them.
