I'm from Northern Ohio, about 40 minutes south of Lake Erie. Just about due south of Sandusky, Ohio. I love summer in Ohio except for the humidity. I enjoy riding my motorcycle north, south, east, and west. There's always an interesting destination to roll to. Winters are well, unpleasant. Arctic winds pound the north coast here, and while I'm not directly in the snow belt, we get enough! Winters seem to be getting more painful for me as every year passes. Since our kids are grown and gone from the nest; we are considering a warmer climate to relocate to. Gun friendly climate ofcourse!
Sandusky area is the OLD frontier, The Frontier that Alan Ekert wrote about in the post Revolutionary period.
I'm in Central NH, No State income tax, no sales tax and the 2d best gun laws in the country.
Home of the Sufferers Tom. The War of 1812 brought folks burned out by Benedict Arnold in Conn. to our area. We have towns with the same names as those early Conn. towns. New London, Norwalk, Plymouth, Danbury, New Haven, etc... I've lived here all my life. Wasn't Mr. Ekert the first settler here? Milan I think? Maybe Avery, I'm not sure?
Yeah, NH ranks high on that lists you posted. Too bad it's so damn nasty there in the winter!
I didn't realize that that about the settlers in that area. I know Alan Ekert grew up there, that's what led him to right the books about the history of the "North East frontier" but how long they had been there I don't know.
As for nasty in winter, there is that, It's why so many families had lots of kids ;D

Currently eastern ND, started in western ND. Before that, my family was from Ashtabula, OH (Dad) and Jackson, OH (Mom). I grew up and lived in Norther Illinois until some years ago when I moved here.
My Mom's ancestors moved to what is now Ohio after one of them waxed eloquent about the beauty of the Western Reserve when he was there during a little Indian trouble (Lord Dunsmore's War, Battle of Point Pleasant and the subsequent treaty with Chief Cornstalk).
My Dad's great-grandfather settled west of Erie PA after serving as an itinerant preacher in the 1840s in that area.
I have no documentation on the tactical pants that they wore. >:(
Hey CORONER, I'm from NE Ohio - Ravenna (just East of Kent). Do you ever get to the Maumee GS? Too far for me but I know my GS sets up there...he does good work but a little slow.

I was going to assume that they were well bred, proper British naval officers, but thats just because I'm a dog person, and hence nicer.

Born and raised in South Florida until the mid-late 80's when it was a terrible town, although much nicer in the 70's. Used to be a saying here, Last American Leaving Miami, take the flag,... I did....
Sledgemiester I will stick up for you by pointing out the "proper Naval Officers" Were guy's like William Blye (Governor of New South Wales AFTER the Bounty incident) Who went back to England because Tasmania had no tea andstrumpetsCrumpets.
BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY ! Are the Tasmanian Devils related to Badgers ?
75-76 Misawa, Japan 76-83 San Michele, Italy 83-85 Fort Meade, MD 85-86 Minneapolis, MN
86-88 Brussels, Belgium 88-90 Kinshasa, Zaire (Dem. Rep. Congo) 90-94 St. Cloud, MN 94-95 Ft. Lauderdale, FL
95-01 St. Cloud, MN 01-present Fargo, ND
I cam to ND for school, and will probably stay because the people haven't changed their attitudes from rural yet. We measure distances in hours, and still stop to talk in the middle of the gravel road.
There are many in Fargo that have rural roots. I am finding, though, that many are MN wannabes, think they are in the Twin Cities. Very snooty in some ways, very much better than thou, especially when I walk around in my Fudd hat and arctic Carhartt. Love going to West Acres Mall dressed like that, great people watching. They are the type of people that made me REALLY want to leave St. Cloud. It seemed like the entire city was made up of people who would rather live in Minneapolis/St. Paul but were somehow stuck in St. Cloud.

I can't comment on Misawa as that is where I was born, But my parents said they liked it. Part of that is because we always lived off installation, and got to know the folks, harder to do when you live on installation. People have a tendency to find the path of least resistance, so socialize with what's near.
And deamonpi, I had orders to Misawa AFB but didn't get to go because my enlistment was up, and I didn't re-up......Always wondered if I made the right choice on that or not. How was it there ?? Heard it was a F-16 base that had incursions from Russian Bears all the time.
I take it you understand the phrase 3rd world sh!thole ;DI understand the phrase very well, and have very little sympathy for those kinds of places. case in point, look at Zimbabwe, You can't blame the whites anymore since they were kicked out, the bad crap going on is solely because of those in power now.
I take it you understand the phrase 3rd world sh!thole ;D
I grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains in northwestern NC. I moved to Lexington NC in 2001. Nc is pretty 2A friendly and we have decent hunting laws. Lexington is ok but I hate the summers it is too hot. It makes me miss the mountains in the summer.
I need to update a couple of locations:
In southwest Minnesota is a big Blue Line;
I live 45 miles on one side;
And a big dude lives 35 miles on the other.
Oh ... and the Blue Line is in serious need of eggs, pork and potatoes today ;D
Hey! You ever go to Shinook Village at the Cherokee Indian Res? My cousin Curt had a live bear attraction there back in the early 90's. I stayed there one summer and worked for him. Beautiful country!

Everyone knows where I am and where I am from, ( When you say Kansas, you kind of say it all LOL) so I won't comment, but I am sure enjoying the reading..
Thanks Coroner for starting it.

Born in Houston Texas, moved to Garland Texas ( borders Dallas, Mesquite, Rowlette and Plano ) when I was 7, been pretty much here ever since. The zip code 75043 is in Garland and has the highest # of CHL'S in the state. We have 6 shooting ranges within 20 miles. My Home range is Dallas Pistol Club, in Carrollton Texas. We have different shooting matches nearly every weekend, everything from air gun, silhouette, bullseye, steel plates, tactical shotgun, tactical handgun, and .22 carbine tactical.
Tom, y'all still have that little 'get-together' for cycling enthusiasts every year?
NooB here.
I haven't seen enough IOWANS on here so I thought I needed to represent a little. Eastern Iowa.. Between Iowa City and the Quad Cities for all of you that don't even know where Iowa is at. NWIA is some awesome country though.. Had a friend in the Cherokee area for awhile. He has left but I still have friends up that way that I don't get to see nearly enough. This thread by far has been one of the most enjoyable to read. Best thing about Iowa? Depends on what county you live in is how nice or communist it is to live. (until the "shall issue" is passed) Used to work for a Great county that I still train with. Now I'm in the neighboring county that is closer to the QCA but still country enough to Issue to most people.
So many things I could comment on in the rest of the thread but I have learn in my young 28 years it is better to just keep your comments to yourself sometimes when you're new.

Me, I was born, raised in Carlsbad, New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment. I left and lived other places, California and Texas and returned to New Mexico. Lived for 25 years in Albuquerque and finally after 32 came back home. Why? I have seen 90% of the US, lived in the Panhandle of Texas, El Paso. Love the Northwest and eastern Tennessee. But I love to see where I am going and be able to see up to 100 miles away. I get claustrophobic when I can't see past the line of tress at the edge of the road or waiting to see dinousars coming out of the swamps. I have also been to Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Phillipines, Thailand and Hong Kong. Awesome but no place like home. Love my desert. Nothing like being out in the desert riding my horse.
I'm from the central Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Visited other places, come home everytime. I love the green of the mountains in the spring and the colors of the fall.
Hello Everyone:

Since November, I have made seveal purchases. I have a CZ 75B, a Taurus Judge, Taurus 357 mag, and a Mossberg 930 shotgun. My next purchase will be a 1911 or a Mossberg 590 variant. Any suggestions?
Thanks
John

I fought the 1911 urge for years and finally found one I like. I have a Kimber Warrior. Nowadays if can't find a 1911 that you like you are not looking hard enough.
Dang, Conagher, I think I'll get you to write my family history too. ;D
That was a very fine read.
but especially no hippies telling me I can't cut down a mesquite tree for firewood either.
Don't get me started on them hippies. I live in hippieville, otherwise known as Austin, so if I'm in town I learned the best way to keep the hippies away is to talk LOUD and Texan. Every time I hear their enviro nonsense I burn a few tires in my driveway in retaliation.
Born in Evansville Indiana, raised a lot in Colorado. Have lived in Morocco (courtesy of US Navy), Georgia, Virginia, Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico, & Alaska. Have been to 40+ of the states and about 25 different countries. Currently live in Cheyenne Wyoming.
I finally got my marker close to where I'm at. And this time I didn't accidentally drag anyone else there. :-[
Begin jokes here:
As Homer Simpson put it, "America's Wang". (For the grammar-philes out there, Wang is capitalized because it's America's). I currently reside in Berkley East or Gainesville if you need to put it in your GPS. I am a native Floridian, as is my mother (Happy Mother's Day Mom). I was born in North Shore Hospital in Miami, FL. I have also lived in Tampa and Naples and have spent large amounts of time in Tallahassee and Orlando with a bit of Jacksonville, to boot.
To sum up the above paragraph, I have lived all up and down America's Wang.

I refuse to answer the question in case President B.O. and the rest of the demoRats are reading our posts and decides to take away our Second Amendment and confiscate our ammo, rifles and pistols.
All I've got to say is " REMEMBER THE ALAMO..." ;D ;D ;D
Welcome Erusen, I think you'll like it here.
Hailing from the great state of Colorado, well, at least the conservative Western Slope, thank god we are separated from the nut house by the Rockies.I'm from a little bit of everywhere. Also lived on the Western Slope. Left Rifle, Colorado in 2003 to come back to Texas. Loved Colorado but it was just too expensive.
Can be pulling the trigger in less than 15 minutes from loading the Jeep. Lots of sunny days to grow garden stuff. Low humidity makes for consistent reloading.

I'll gladly take the money stolen from me for social security and invest it myself. Hell, even in a basic savings account I could get a better return than the govt.Hmm, don't bother checking out that big ol 1/2 percent savings account interst against paid out social security vs paid in. Nasty old facts would just make ya feel bad.
And tell FQ I said hi.

Welcome to all the newbies on the site. This turned into a lively discussion. Agree with Tom/1911Junkie and Pegleg. Haven't been on the site for a while. My grandson took over my computer. But it turned out well. Took him out to shoot. 22/38/357, evil black gun and 300WSM. He loved the 300, he is 13. Just completed his Hunter Safety Course and ready to go hunting with the 300. Happy times.
I have got a best friend in West Palm. Just had some cancer removed. He is 41. Been trying to direct him in the right direction to plink some rounds. He owns the first gun I ever purchased, a Smith and Wesson 6906. But he is like a brother so I sold it to him. This is one of the few people who know who Ping really is as a person and best friend.

Thats a good question! I'm a son of USAF parents, born in Alabama but grew up everywhere. Went to Junior High and High School in San Antono, Texas then enlisted in the US Army for the next 24 yrs. Been to 35+ states, 30 or so countries, and 5 continents. Lived in Kentucky for 14 yrs or so, 9 yrs in Germany, almost 3 yrs in Iraq and on assignment in Afghanistan for the next year. My wife and youngest son live on the North Carolina coast and oldest son and his family in Colorado.
Oklahoma here, born and bred.I won't hold that against you, though some of the Texascans might. I was born there too. Wasn't raised there. moved away when I was a year old.

Boca Raton, Fl, raised close to Houston Texas. Florida is nice and it is a carry state. Problem is, here in S Fl they built on every acre of land or it is federal land. >:( They finally built over the last possible place to go plinking near here. I like ranges, but I love plinking and saving us all from the dreaded pest animals (NO, not liberals! Rats, possums, nutria, snakes, the dreaded and feared empty .22 box...) Anyone know a place close to Pompano/Boca Raton to plink I'll bring the brick of .22s!Thats my neck of the woods, yes you are right about the snakes, and yes there are 3 big ranges near you, and Im surprised you had to ask about -places to shoot, Markham Park , Shooters Emporium for 2 And I thought I ranted , WOW for being the big Jackass of the day. Way to go, you seem to have some education . How about showing some decorum.
Luckily (?) the everglades is overflowing with pythons released by idiots (animal loving idiots, I'm sure). Soon they will HAVE to let us shoot the darn things before they eat more children (a kid was just killed by his idiot dad's python- not really funny) and what is left of the dogs and cats. (I guess having released pythons right by the road to eat released- read dumped- cats and dogs is almost a self-cleaning toilet... If only they would eat the dumpERS.)
Frosty, you might want to check the date of the Obama crash... It aint his babe! On the bright side the defeat of the Rep idea of putting your Social Security into the stock market means at least you won't starve. See, I'm trying to let you see the bright side. If those darn dems hadn't stopped THAT your life wouldn't even be worth living. You might want to change to a party that doesn't hate the social security and medicaid that you are going to need since the Republican ideal of total deregulation- unseen since, you guessed it, the LAST huge finacial collapse- has allowed greedy pigs to steal your retirement. Feel better? I only want to help! ;D Maybe if we allow the rich little piggies to keep that big old tax cut they can enjoy your money more, you think? Hmm, seems being a Dem is in your best interest, doesn't it? Maybe stopping that tax cut and giving a cost of living adjustment to social security would help, uh, YOU. Maybe you could retire and NOT starve to death! Come to the dark side, we have cookies AND the social programs that would make YOUR life better. Sorry, but the richest 1% WILL have to pay the share they paid before Reagan, you remember- when we had a middle class. Hmm, medicaid... not dying or going bankrupt (number one cause, you got it, medical costs!) if you get cancer... Cookies, hmmm... Get that cola back on s.s., maybe afford donuts, mmm... Donuts...
Oops, sorry. I drooled on the keyboard there for a moment.

Welcome to the site wolfgang1952. Great to have you with us.
I spent the first 39 years of my life in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, then in '03 I moved to AR just outside of Memphis, TN.
It was quite a culture shock, particularly in regards to the difference in firearm regs between the two states. Having spent most of my life in gun hating IL, I thought all those restrictions were normal and proper. Since I've lived in AR my opinion has changed greatly, and I now believe that the IL way is the WRONG way, particularly in Chicago. I never really understood what the Second Ammendment was for, and why it was so important to our freedom. Then again, that's not surprising, because there was no way it was going to be taught in the IL public school system.
However, now I FULLY realize it's importance and will do everything in my power to make sure our firearm rights aren't taken away any more than they already have been.

I am another from Ohio where we grow the construction barrels. I have lived with in 40 miles of Canton except for 2 years my dad took a job on the other side of the state, 4 Years in Wisconsin in the service and 2 years Budapest Hungary for work.
I can tell you one good thing about Ohio but I don't want to live anywhere else. I actually like the Winters as the snow turns the dreary death into a beautiful landscape. Snow makes everything look clean and new, as long as not too many pople have been there. The summers can be opressive but we are used to that. There are lakes to fish and state parks to hunt and a traffic jam is when you don't make the light until the second turn. There are till people who do not lock there doors and kids can play in the street.
I thought I had hit this subject a long time ago myself. Evidently not.
Central Missouri here. Born in KC and got away from there as soon as I could enlist.
Now on my own piece of land and am damned glad I got it when I did.
BTW I too have my own shooting range. And deer. And Turkeys. And quail. And rabbits. And squirrels.
Well you get the idea.

Yes, a transplant. I would have said Antietam instead of Sharpsburg but I couldn't remember how to spell it. Born in S.Dakota moved here 28 years ago after a few stops along the way. I enjoy visiting the battlefields. Have another trip to Gettysburg scheduled in the spring with some visiting relatives.

I enjoy riding my motorcycle north, south, east, and west. There's always an interesting destination to roll to. Winters are well, unpleasant. Welcome aboard, Parker...glad to have you in the mix.
From NE Alabama. Several years in FL followed by 5 years in KS, 6 in GA, 12 in ME, 1 in Chile, (had I known I could carry in Peru, I'd have gone there instead..) and ironically/unexpectedly, find myself back where I started, just one mountain over..
Saw only one other post here from AL.
Hope I haven't pissed off too many people too bad here yet. I do like it here...
Joe
Welcome......
My dad's people were from northern Alabama.
And don't worry about pissing off folks....most of us get over it in a few minutes...."LOOK, BOOBIES!!!!!"...... every once in a while someone gets mad enough to bite themselves and they leave....but for the most part, we are like-minded and amiable. From your posts, you seem to fit in. ;) ;D

Coroner... Elton Snyder , Dad's cousin lived in Greenwich, across from the high school
Rockford, TN. Between Knoxville and Maryville. One year post stroke, starting to shoot again. ???I got off easy. Noticed the eye drooping a little over the last couple of days. Only slur on occasion.
I'm a member of the 17th native born generation of my family. Members of my family have fought, bled and died in every conflict this nation has been in, since before it was a nation. Montgomery Co. MD, to Wilkes Co. NC, to Lawrence Co. KY, to Greene Co. OH. This is where the old man run outta money, baloney, and gas, on the way to Detroit in 1953.
Born and raised in New Jersey though I have spent the majority of my life in New Mexico and since retirement in '06 I have lived in Arizona. Though tat will change soon as my wife and I are planning to become full time RVers next years. Can't wait!
