Title: I'm Confused

Yesterday the Iowa Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, struck down a state law that banned same-sex marriage in the state.  Here's where my confusion comes in......how is it possible that the Iowa Supreme Court could agree unanimously that the wording of the Iowa Constitution allows gay marriage, when a few months ago the SCOTUS was split over the meaning of the words "shall not be infringed?"

It's called 'insuring job security' by convincing 'normal' people that plain English continues to 'evolve' and needs to be explained or interpreted every now and then because it was sooooo 'confusing' the way it was originally spelled out in the Constitution.

"Shall not"  seems pretty clear to me!


Oh and tt....welcome to the club.......the couple that forced the hand in MA and got the MA courts to allow have filed for divorce!

Well, they did want to enjoy ALL the "benefits" of marriage.    ;D

You're loking at this the wrong way tt. Think of the buiness opportunities. Go out, get yourself ordained (the back of Rolling Stone being a good place to start) and open up a Vegas style wedding chapel. Hire crossdressing Barbara Streisand, impersonators, maybe go with the Village people look for yourself (I'd go with Indian, its unique) annd you will clean up. Hell Iowa tourism will spike. Maybe even a new state slogan, "Iowa: Like San Fransico only Flatter". These are tough times seize the opprtunity. :D

Sorry, shouldn't say "hot cakes" now.  Iowans might take that as a proposal. ;D
