USAF Museum? I remember as a kid standing next to one of the B-36's spare tires they had there - thing was as tall as a freaking house!
Some of my fav's - I think the last one is one of the coolest air-to-air shots I've ever seen.
-
Cool pictures. Yes, they still have the huge B-36 tire there. I especially liked going to the hangar that has all the x-planes.
-
BAC, Are you a Professional photographer, ? The photo's you take are AWESOME ! I always liked the more colorful pre WW II paint schemes, even if they WERE to make wreckage easier to find ;D
Path, When I was in the Marines the OV 10's used to fly support for troop lifts, 16 CH 47's would fly over with an escort of 4 Bronco's and 1 or 2 pair of Cobra's, they'd pound the crap out of the LZ then the Troop carriers would go in while they circled to provide on call CAS. Our Barracks was right across the bay from one of the exercise areas at night it was REALLY cool to watch, back then night vision was provided by a high flying CH 53 dropping flares, then the Cobras and Bronco's would go in with Mini guns and rockets, quite the light show. I was glad they were on our side ;D
Also, the Hiller Museum in Redwood Ca. has a Mohawk and some other Recon planes, along with an ORIGINAL Glenn Curtis Aeroplane, Living in that area was NOT all bad.
-
Tom, thanks for the kind words. No, I am not a professional photographer, but I do work with a lot of them. I also occasionally get to work with some Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers. It must be rubbing off!
Here are some more from the museum. Screw work!

That P-26 Peashooter in the first photo is SWEET, It was one of the first all metal monoplane Fighters, The last ones in service were with the Philippine AF, They had some of the most colorful paint jobs of any warplane.

I would give my left nut for a ride in a Bronco (I already have kids, so . . . ). I have this thing for weird aircraft, the little behind the scenes ones like the OV-10, OV-1, O-2, seaplanes, stuff like that. Because they are not the flash and sizzle planes like the big combat jets, it is tough to find any videos of them in action.
My understanding is that there are damned few OV-10s in museums or private hands - the Feds gave tons of them away, and kept a few for themselves. I think the ATF has some,
Mohawks seem to be more common - there was a guy in Racine, WI who had one, but when I lived back there never got to see it.

Excellent photos BAC. Where are these taken at? Saw some similar displays at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. You definitely have the eye with your camera. What type of camera do you use?
-
Photo is not as good as BAC's, I took it with a disposable camera at the 2004 Air show at SkyHaven Airport, Rochester NH
The Plane is a Goodyear built F4U 5N version with the radar pod on the wing as they were used in Korea.

Thanks Ping. They were taken at the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson. As far as equipment goes, I'm all Olympus.

2007 Alliance Air Show. A few good pics, some real good acts, lots of military flyers. Need to go to a historic airshow some time.

That'll keep the kids out of your yard. ;D

Two Super Stallions had to land due to weather at our small / mid sized Muni airport. They had just built a new office and lounge area for all of the private jet suits and those Heli's dwarfed the building. It was very impressive.. Once in a lifetime chance to get a picture and I didn't get one.. :( It was still a sight to see though.. You have no idea how big those things are until it is put into that kind of scale.

Little Mig15 inspired model I did last night, I'll texture it today, and then, maybe do a fun little vid where they fight each other. But they'll both end up exploding!!! ;D Not a realistic model, but I found this style to be more fun.
-
My Photoshop paint over of that Mig render. The model is a little improved as well, its just my fun interpretation of a Mig 15. Note the rocket exhaust, that Mig ain't to green friendly. ;D
-
I've always liked this one

Nope. Goodyear only built a few -4 Corsairs and none of them were delivered to the Navy because to do so would have obligated them to deliver ALL the spare parts and support materials for the entire (huge) contract, which was cancelled. Goodyear built -1A and -1D versions of the Corsair, as well as the Wasp Major-powered F2Gs.
Also, that's an F4U-5N (Vought built, of course), not a -4N. There were NO production -4Ns. There was ONE prototype -4N built but the -4N never went into production. The prototype -4 Corsair was at one point fitted with a radar pod for aerodynamic trial purposes only but it was never fitted with working radar.
I've done a pretty fair amount of research on the -4 through -7 Corsairs, maybe you could tell. ;)

He's misinformed. His airplane is a -5.

Forgot to include another one of my favorites. Grossly underpowered (don't fly into a headwind faster that is more than 40MPH) but so cool - land in a lake and fish out of the door.

I was on a ship that took food aid to Iraq via Syria a few years back and as we passed Israel we were buzzed by an Israeli jet. I was on the aft deck at the time and could actually look down into the cockpit. (as much as was possible at that speed.) the deck was about 35 feet above the water, so you can imagine how low and close this guy was. I was impressed. anyway, this pic remined me of the incident.

Excellent video Eric, That was a NASA TR-1 that they fly out of Moffat Field in Ca. I saw it when I was there for an Airshow in 99.
The CIA/Air Force U2 was single place, same plane just that the 60's spy stuff has been removed to make room for a scientist and his gear while the pilot serves as his taxi driver.

Love the DR1 but the Albatros actually had better performance.
