Ford, for the third month in a row, has outsold Toyota in the US.
They did this without using any of our taxdollars and without Knee Pad Barry at the helm...
Well done....well done!
-
thats not shocking... toyota quality has droped like a stone. Where as ford is rated just behind honda...
for the last 2 model years they have had number 1 and number 2 least realiable new cars/trucks with thier 1/2 ton and the cameray.
-
We've got six Fords parked out in the driveway, and the street, and we love them. The last two Fords I've personally own, 2006 Ranger, and 2008 F150 STX, have been great. Used to be a Mustang guy, but once you buy a truck that's all you can think about owning. I'd buy another Mustang...after I get a new truck. I never have or never will buy any thing other than a Ford as long as they're around. And if you don't like Fords...then f#$@...I mean you should test drive one some time. ;D
-
I swore off Fords - at least new ones - when Billy Ford started throwing his money at greenie organizations trying to shut down farming and ranching, and at the homosexual community as well.
I may have to look at a gently used kinda new one when I get another job.
-
I've got two Fords myself currently. Both paid for I might add. I'm a bit biased as my daddy worked for General Motors for thirty years and ALWAYS drove a Ford...guess he knew something!
I don't need much, just something to get me from point A to B and back again, a small sedan and a small pickup work for me and if the plan goes well, I'll get another five years out of both of them. Not because I HAVE too, but because it's quite a freeing feeling to able to save 1500 bucks a month and have no real debt to speak of. I want to retire and the only way to do that is not buy things I don't really need. I'll easily get 200K miles out of both so 2013 or 2014 I'll be in the market for my last vehicle.
I will however, buy the occasional toy! ;D
-
I love my Honda Accord!
-
my work truck is a 84 f 350 4x4... I've put almost 340k miles on it. other then a tranny at 195k and a starter last year, Its been nothing but maintance... the a/c did stop working a couple years back, but thats minor details. Other then that I've had zero probs with it, and trust me I've abused the hell out of it. I put more abuse on a truck in 1 year then most trucks will ever see. hell I tow 5-7500 lbs atleast 2 days a week, and have for years.
When I was a kid, I was hit by a motor cycle, the CHP officer told me something that holds true... "who ever has the most lug nuts wins"
-
TAB, you seldom make me laugh out loud, but THAT one did it ;D
And it is the Gods honest truth !
-
I have owned both, right now I've got an '08 Tundra and I love it. I've had 2 F-150's in the past and had nothing but problems with both of them. I still don't have anything against the vehicles. But when I found out that Ford donates $1000 from every new vehicle sale to a gay rights orginization I swore I'd never even give them a chance till that policy ended.

That - and ridiculous depreciation just driving off the lot - are the main reasons I don't buy new.

if you want to write off the cost of a car/truck, it has to be new, other wise all you can do is write off the exps or milage.
it sucks, but thats how it works.

Ford... Hack, Cough, Spit
Holden here ;) ( long time Aussie argument here Holden V Ford King of the Mountain. Bathurst 1000 ( it is Holden By the Way)
my next car will be a Toyota HiLux Dual Cab Turbo Diesel though One day :(
Ford =
Found On Rubish Dump,
Fked On Race Day,
Fixed Or Repaired Daily,
Found On Road Dead
Full Of Rusty Dents,
Fast Only Rolling Downhill,
Factory Ordered Road Disaster
For Old Retarded Drivers
Favorite Of Redneck Drivers
Driver Returning On Foot (Ford spelled backwards!)
-
If it's older (pre '90s) and Ford, I don't have a problem with them. But like philw says, "Fix Or Repair Daily". I am a Chevy guy, through and through. Got a '98 Z71 with 275K miles on it. Still going strong, no issues but the occasional accessory failure. I will, however, refuse to buy a new Government Motors product.
When/if mine breaks down, I will repair it. Just waiting for the day the 350 goes out and I can replace or modify it to a 383 stroker. No Ford EVER for me and yes Bryan, you may say f#$@ me on that but I know many engineers that work for Ford which were clearly instructed to only produce a vehicle that will last 5 years, just passed the warranty. Anything passed that would be pure luck.

Most of the family Fords are 10 to 15 years, not to mention the ones the family bought back in the early 90's. We kept them quite a while. You know, it doesn't count when you wrap them around trees during drunken romp through the country side. ;D

That means they are mostly older.... ;)

LMAO! Don't know how many anything can keep going over that! ;D ;D

Yeah, I have been spouting this for years that Toyota has Cinsumer Reports in their pocket, because i see just as many focuses as i do corollas still running.
I am a Jeep man, which unfortunately makes me a Chrysler owner...but I have nothing against either Chevy or Ford, I have owned good and bad vehicles from both companies in the past. You havet remember that noone is 100% safe from buying a lemon no matter how much you spend or who you but it from.
On side note, I hope Chrysler Liquidates, and ford buys up Jeep.
-
Depreciation is not an issue when you plan to drive a car 5 or 6 years. Value is the issue and the bottom line is this; Toyota, Honda and others just don't want to negotiate the price of the car at the dealer level. There are at least three negotiations in any car deal. The price, the trade, and the financing and I don't begin the next until the previous is on paper. I don't give a damn what the monthly payment is gonna be, never have and If that's your only concern, than you need to go back to school because your buying more than you can probably afford.
I don't buy anything because it's cool, fast or pretty. I buy because I don't care to walk too far, period. Ford has been far better in price wars because they move a lot of cars whereas, if you get get Toyota or Honda to drop the price a few hundred bucks, you think you've won.
My current vehicles cost me about $5000.00 less than the sticker price so depreciation is a moot point, both are six years old with 98,000 and 70,000 miles repectively and since my last one gave me little or no trouble over six years and 182,000 miles, it was a no brainer to buy another Ford. I drove an Escort for fourteen years until the body was so rotton, the back seat used to fill up with mud when it rained, the seats had fallen out and the electrical system was smoking but that little four cylinder just kept plugging away. It wasn't pretty, fast or get me any dates but it got me to work...kind of like the Liberator in WWII, it got me to work so I could buy another Ford!
Maintain any mechanical THING and it will treat you right, if you don't, well.........

I'm a truck guy, once you have one it's hard to be without one. Right now I have a 02 Toyota Tundra 4x4 and love it. Drove a Ford ranger before that. The ranger was a pain in the ass, always something going wrong with it.
I lost my second "part time" job awhile back it was for a local Ford dealer. Talking with their techs and seeing all the newer diesels in the shop, I'd stay away from the newer diesels. Shocking :o :o
You can get a lemon with any of them!
Way in on this M25 ;D

Shooter...
I have a basic 4x2 Ranger Edge with absolutely nothing extra and have had not one problem with it...like everything in life, you win some and lose some...
I like the Tundra too, just can justify the sticker shock.....yikes! Plus, I don't NEED a full size truck, I just wear a kidney belt when I drive the Ranger.... ;D

Tim, that's one of the reasons I bought the Tundra. It rides more like a car and the 4x4 does great in the snow and 4x4'n in the mountains on my hunting trips ;D

If I lived where some of you guys do, I would consider alternate transportation myself. Up here in the Northeast, I've never owned a 4x4 anything and I don't get stuck. I learned to drive in MI back in the 70's and for the small amount of snow we get in my area, maybe 110 inches on a BAD winter, it's just not worth the extra expense and upkeep of a 4x4.
The SIL had a Tundra for about a year until the gas spiked above 4 bucks a gallon, he unloaded that thing for a considerable loss. I did get to drive it once and it was bar far the best riding ANYTHING I've ever personally driven. Toyota does a nice job on everything they make, I just don't want to spend that kind of money when I'm less than 15 years from retirement.
-
I would love a Dual Cab Toyota Tundra
they did not do an Aussie version though as they think it would not sell here
they look very cool and bigger than a Roll-Lux

Ford's books get a lot of help from fleet sales........ DOTs, LE Agencies, etc.

don't forget construction companys...
its like the old saying says...
you want a truck to work, buy a ford. you want a truck to drive around in, get a chevy.
i've several of both, the fords have out lasted the chevys and have had fewer probs.

Does Ford really donate to a gay rights organization? Which one? Is there a news link?
Does Toyota do it too?

I believed they did in order to get advertising spaces on various medias, but I've read that they've stopped cause it was to much trouble.

But when I found out that Ford donates $1000 from every new vehicle sale to a gay rights orginization I swore I'd never even give them a chance till that policy ended.
Having worked for Ford dealers for 25 years I find this shocking! I guess I'm gay. :o I'm sorry but I find this hard to believe. If they gave that kind of money to gay rights, same sex marriage would be legal by now.
-
I've nothing but Fords. One of which, an escort will never be spoken of again. The other three, an F-100, a ranger and now an F-150. No repairs (knock wood) that weren't either in the norml life expectancy of a part or nonsence like headlight brackets or a window motor that fall into the small dollar aggravation category. Other folks make fine trucks, I'm with TAB though, in that I don't care about deppreciation as I tend to drive mine well north of 100K.

Waying in shooter 32, cars are my business, trucks included, I work on them and fix them, neither ford or toyota are my area of expertise. In my experience Toyota is a higher quality product, that does not mean that Ford is bad, my main marquee is Volvo, the car, not the heavy truck line. I base my decisions against Volvo, which have built their reputation on longevity, and it is justified. Toyota has built a reputation on the same, but in my observance, Toyota products will last beyond 200k miles, but they look like it, interiors are trash, plastic pieces all broken, but mechanically still strong. Ford products go all over the place, they make very cheap vehicles and better vehicles, and they are not comparable, a focus, vs a Crown Vic, vs a truck, not apples and apples. Some of the Diesel offerings in the trucks are trash, and the 100k warranty they are not backing up. Putting the problem on the owner, for not coming in early enough, and they caused the problem by not getting it looked at soon enough. But it is a flaw on the part of the manufacturer. I think Ford drivetrains are tough, but not the beds on pickups, thin sheet metal, easily gouged, but if it does not put a hole through the bed, it is just ugly, not a deal breaker. Toyota has strong beds and ride like cars, last a long time, very fuel efficient, both have creature comforts galore.
The question did not include GM, they make a good product, but as a truck, they are not that strong, I always consider them Monte Carlos with a bed on them, drive nice, do nice for home depot shopping, but not a real truck. And yes, they do last too, and have a good fuel management system, so get really decent mileage for what they are. 20 mpg out of a v8 truck is good stuff. Thing is, that is what most people use them for, so, no harm, no foul. In a business environment where a Truck is used hard, loaded hard, I will give Ford the nod, unless it is a diesel, and watch out for certain v8 gas motors, nothing wrong with the motor, but changing spark plugs at 100k, as recommended by ford, the spark plugs break on removal, and have to be extracted by laborious means. Some transmission issues too.
It is usually not a good idea to buy new, but it depends. If you put 200k on a vehicle, buy one with 30k and enjoy the depreciation, and lower entry cost. Me I usually own a vehicle for 10 years, so I buy new, and keep them up, and trade off later. Except for passenger cars, I buy old Volvo's that need major work, but are in really good condition, I have 2, 940 Volvo's that have 150k and 208k respectively, they look good and drive good, I would drive either 2k miles to a destination, and back, comfortable and reliable, last a lifetime and infinitely repairable.
My current truck is a Dodge, 2001 ram 1500, have 108k on it, I have replaced the water pump, changed the oil and filter regularly, air filter, but have not even changed the plugs yet. I will soon ??? It was cheap, and has served me well, now 8 years old, the only complaint is the dash has begun to break up, really badly. But it has not cost me much. I did replace the transmission fluid with synthetic and the rear end fluid with pure synthetic as these were known problems, and have had no issues.
Long post as usual, but my .02 cents.

I bought a '91 Ranger new (4 miles on the odometer), it was a no frills, power nothing, manual transmission 4-cylinder. the Clutch-plate snapped at 30,000 miles. OOPS, sorry your extended warranty don't cover manual transmission parts $400 ($950 if I had Ford do it). Fuel pump went out at 40,000 (Japanese replacement part lasted till I got rid of it) $150. Went through 4 clutches, drive-shaft was bent cause they put the wrong U-joint on it ("Oh, hell Charlie, it's Friday just beat on it till it stays"), 2 rear gear boxes, and Asmodeus knows how many screws, sensors, miles of duct tape, etc.
The truck ran 336,000 miles before the thingy popped out of the trans and the odometer and I couldn't get the miles anymore (That was about 8 months before the clutch went out for the fourth time and I donated it). The motor ran as well and as smooth as the day I bought it. I figured it would when the plate popped of the motor one day and the one underneath said NISSAN and all the writing was in Japanese.

I own both brands now. I own a 1991 Toyota pickup and a 1999 Ford Expedition 4X4. And I have to say my little "rice burnin'" 'Yota beats the crap out of my Ford in terms of toughness. Ford made a critical design flaw in their cooling system where a $50 dollar part failed and cost me over $1,000 to fix. That incident made me swear that I will not buy another Ford. So when the Expedition finally stops running, I'll replace it with a Sequoia. And one other thing, Toyota is putting Americans to work building their trucks here in the U.S.A. Viva Toyota!
Come to think of it, Toyota's are like Glocks- they work each time every time!
;D ;D

leaving plugs in when you have AL heads is asking for probs... all the manufactors say they can go 100k miles, you need to change them about every 60k. if you break one off or pull the thread, you have to pull the head. other wise you will get metal shavings in the motor... seen wrench turns( not mechanics, there is a big diffrenc) retap heads when they are still on...
not acording to car and driver... for both 08 and 09 the number 1 and 2 least realiable cars/trucks is the cameray and the tundra... but hey its your money...
I know a few guys that have bought the tundra as a work truck, none of them have kept it more then a year. 2 of the 4 limon lawed them back to toyota.

Sorry folks, I have to support Dodge on this one. I have seen fords bite it left and right. As a matter of fact I refer ford as a f#%%ed over rebuilt dodge!!! ;D I would love for Jeep to come back with their pick up truck. I don't want a monster but I know a Jeep would go through to the end. That is why I am on my fourth Jeep. They keep getting better and better. Just as long as they are not Asian or European owned. ;)
