This just in . . .

I remember my Mother teaching me, if you can't say anything nice about someone . . . .

I've never written an obituary, but I read this one with approval.
-
I found it hard to believe he served with Curtis Lemay during WWII. McNamara was a staff statistian.
He learned nothing about fighting a war or caring for those who were in harms way.
For one of the brightess minds in the country, he sure was a dumbass.

He was a "bean counter" who had no connection to the REAL world.
Like the above line I stole from Mark Twain here's another apt one, I will not be attending his funeral but hope some one will convey my approval of the event.

Where does the line start to piss on his grave?
I know, I'm not a very good Christian...

I hate cemeteries, I hope they bury him close to the fence so I don't have to go IN.
-
I hate that he passed away before he could be charged with war crimes. He was instrumental in wasting precious American lives by not fighting to win. Makes him a war criminal in my book.

Right on Rastus!!

Reminds me of a line from "The Shootist" by the sheriff, "The day they lay you under, what I'll do on your grave won't pass for flowers".

Yes....Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido................... ;)
The Shootist (1976)
Exchange between Books and Sheriff Thibido:
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: Books, I want you out of town. These are law-abiding people here and I don't want any trouble. I can deputize as many men as I need to see that you leave.
John Bernard Books: I'm not going anywhere, Marshal. I'm dying and I intend to die right here.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: Really? You're really dyin'?
John Bernard Books: Ask Doc Hostetler.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: Hot damn! You know, Books, that's the best news I've had all day. While I was walking over here I was thinking, what if Books decides to kill me? Who will take over as marshal? Will the town council pay my pension to my wife? Damn, that's good news.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: Hey, Books; did you hear what happened at the Metropole last night? Faro dealer, Pulford, shot a man clean through the heart at eighty paces. Maybe you should go to the Metropole, let Pulford deal you a game of cards.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: How are you feeling? A little more poorly everyday?
John Bernard Books: You have a streak of kindness a mile wide.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: That I do.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: To put it in a nutshell, you've plum wore us out.
John Bernard Books: Put it in a nutshell? You couldn't put it in a barrel without a bottom. You're the longest winded bastard I've ever known.
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: You wouldn't gun down a police officer.
John Bernard Books: What'd stop me? Fear of dying?
Carson City Marshal Walter Thibido: The day they lay you away, what I'll do on your grave won't pass for flowers.

Well said. Nailed him.

Not fighing to win wasn't his worst crime. It was his later admission that he didn't think the war could be won, yet kept fighting. He, and Nixon, and Kissenger, who kept the war going until after the election deserve a special place in hell. Right next to Colin Powell who now claims he opposed Iraq and didn't think they had WMDs. Did he resign and say so? No, he went on to cheer lead the war at the UN. Screw all of them. Our troops deserve so much better.

Burn in Hell you sorry piece of shit!
Not only did he prolong the Viet Nam war (and thereby kill my cousin, the first member of my family to die in a war since the War of Northern Aggression), not only did he refuse to allow us to whack the beard and bring Cuba out of Soviet domination in '62, but the sorry bastard saddled us with the M-16! God only knows how many troops have died in the last 50 years because of that!
When I get to Hell I plan to look him up.

Wouldn't have been so bad if that penny pinching bastard would have listened to the people doing the shooting and killing. You can only be so book smart before you need an ass kicking.

You're gone, you won't be forgotten, and you won't be missed.

Yer killin' me here. It doesn't have to be that-a-way. Watch him from across "the great gulf".

On the other hand Rastus, maybe McNamara got saved. Then YOU'LL have to put up with him. ;D

Optimistic, aren't we? ;D
-
Actually, when I get to Hell I expect the devil to hand me a lump of coal through the locked gate and tell me "Build your own".

Well look at the bright side of life thanks to him :-X today we have the AR-15! If I recall from my history lessons the Generals in charge of the Army in the 60's didn't like the M-16 that much. It was the Air Force the ordered it first. Had he :-X not shoved the M-16 down the Army's throat It would have never gained the popularity it has today. ;D Of course I wont go into how he :-X the cheap bastard screwed it up too at the cost of an unknown number of servicemen's lives! >:(

Problem is he'll quickly be reincarnated. Hell just wont have him.
