Being heavily biased between the choices myself, I'm not sure if I should be offended or not! ;D

Because you can buy 10 for the price of a Springfield. :'( Otherwise I'd agree, particulary as 30-06 is such a ubiquitous cartridge.

That was really a good read. Sad but true, well not really sad, 8)
Had to bookmark and fwd it.

I have a Mosin!
7.62x54r is essentially the ballistic equivalent of 30.06
-
When they did a comparison of WWI rifles the results were
1) Best hunting rifle - Mauser
2) Best Target rifle - 03 Springfield
3) Best Battle rifle - Lee Enfield
Mosin Nagant, Ross, Carcano, and the P-17 did not make the list.

I think the humorous is one of the bones the crappy stock design dislocates.

That is what made it the perfect (or almost perfect) rifle Tom. It killed Nazi's and wounded commies. What more could you want?

Crappy stock or no, In todays times 91/30's, M38, M44's, all just good clean fun to shoot! For as long as the 91/30's are, they balance beutifully in the hand, and actually handle fairly well because it. Besides, If you somehow DID break it. "You always have lots of fine burning firewood there!" ;D
Better than an AK though? :-\ ;D :( :'( Gun Gods willing I'll never have to choose!
-
I keep thinking about buying an AK just so I can shout "Wolverines." The funny thing is I think my Accessories are more valuable than the AR itself.

I've seen your rig. If you're holding that I think you can shout whatever the heck you want and there's darn few who will argue with you. ;D

Yea BUT you can find 30.06 in every store in America that carries any kinda ammo to speak of! While the 7.62x54r is admittedly equal to the .06 it's not as readily available at least here in the states.

True (and I love my 30-06) but I can buy 800 rounds of 7.62x54r for 148.00!

though I too prefer to buy American, I will not let it restrict my gun buying vice. I do own a MN 91/30 and love it. and have found ammo most everywhere, it is fairly popular. besides being a good (quality) gun, it is also a piece of history that is nice to have. doesn't mean I don't want American rifles, but I can't deny that it's a very good shooter.
-
Funny stuff. ;D
Thanks Badger!!!
-
Just got back from town. Mills Fleet/Farm no longer has the AK for $469 but in its place they have a MN 91/30 for $99.
And not 1 round of pistol ammo, not 1!!!! No MN ammo either.
-
At SOG the MN gun is 70 and 800 rounds cost 148!
-
Two places I know of online have 7.62X54 in stock at 440 rounds for $89 bucks. If you buy two cans (880 rounds), it'll go for $160.00. Good deal in my book!
-
Even if it's cheap now, it's still vulnerable to the whims of Customs. Look at 8mm whered that all go ? I feel better paying more for ammo common HERE. That's why I got rid of my AK and got a 12 ga.
-
As long as there is demand there will be supply (as illegal drugs have done a fine job proving). All the more reason to buy several cans of 7.62x54! When its hard to find sell off a little for enough to cover the cost of your rifle and ammo together!
In buying $160 worth of 7.62x54 ammo, I cant help but think of the old saying where you double the value of your car by filling the gas tank. ;D

I don't think I would have gotten rid if the the AK! After all when the rest of the Cubans invade their will be plenty of 7.62x39 ammo around if there aint already! ::)
long live the wolverines!!! ;D

7.62x54r is a great round for just about any situation. For defense or hunting 7.62 work very well, shit some mighty fine ribs made to my house because my M38 wont miss.
